Test tomorrow....Update: Surgery 7/31

TnP, my mom had hers out about 5 years ago (orthoscopically) and it was no big deal. They did it at the hospital -- but she came home the night of the procedure. She was supposed to restrict her diet afterwards but she really never did. Bottom line: she feels MUCH better than before the procedure.

It's unofficially official. I listened to the dictation from the radiology report line and the ejection fraction is only 10%. Normal would be at least 50% or higher....sometimes as low as 35% if there are no symptoms. I have a feeling that I am due to see a surgeon soon, but a lot of this is going to have to be worked around Corey's schedule. Until then, I am going to have to behave and avoid anything fatty, spicy, fried, or high in fiber. I am thinking that I might emerge from all of this with a hatred for white rice and chicken soup. lol

I am waiting to hear back from my doc on the report to know what the official next step is.

I have had mine out, approximately 8 years ago, and I did stay in the hospital two days..... I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy instead of the big procedure, I had four little incisions... and they remove the gallbladder in pieces through this little incisions.. they then stapled the incisions.

Here is the thing, it is still abdominal surgery, and you may have some discomfort for a few weeks after the surgery.. I know I did.. I also had dietary issues after the surgery and did have to restrict my diet or have an upset stomach etc. That lasted for a while and now I am ok although I do know if I eat fried foods, greasy types, I may have issues later.

I did have my gallbladder out for a pain I was having mid chest and under the shoulder blade, turns out after having the gallbladder removed, I had the same pain and same attack. At that time, I think the surgeon wanted to collapse when I ended up back in the hospital a week after my surgery with that pain. It was GERD and I had my gallbladder out for that. Now they did say they saw gallstones on the ultrasound, but I am not so sure that is the truth, or that was them covering themselves..

Anyway, I still have that pain...but now we call it GERD.

Good luck with the surgery...

Hey I'm glad they came to a conclusion for you. And don't worry. My girlfriend Lily got hers out and was so much better and recovered SO quickly! Think positively and you will do well!!

I have an appointment with a surgeon on Friday the 18th. If I get more ill between now and then, I am to proceed to the hospital that Corey used to work at and tell them that I have a surgeon. Since the one that I have an appointment with is currently in Europe, I am fine with seeing either of his partners. I was warned, by Corey, to demand not to let one surgeon in particular be on the case because she is a butcher, but takes a lot of call at the hospital, she is not a part of my surgeon's group either. I am going to try to schedule the surgery on the 25th. Corey will be in town that day and the week following.

Tomorrow's the big day. I have surgery scheduled at noon. We have to go over to the hospital at 10am to get me checked in and prepped. I am hoping that I get to come home afterwards, but that might not be possible. I feel blessed to have been able to find out what was wrong with me before my gallbladder function deteriorated any further. With acalculous cholcystitis, it can be like having a time bomb in your belly. Having gallstones is the much more common presentation. I guess that eating all of that rice and beans has paid off in that the lower fat intake hasn't stressed my gallbladder any more than necessary over the last few weeks.

Anyway, if you get a chance to think some good thoughts, say some prayers, or send some pixie dust my or Corey's way tomorrow, I would greatly appreciate it. :grouphug:

I hope you have an easy time of it! I had mine out about a year and a half ago. I didn't feel totally back to normal for a month, but I was DISing about 1/2 hour after I got home. :rotfl: Priorities, afterall. ;)

Thanks y'all! :grouphug:

It's been a busy day. Corey doesn't cook, other than being the master of the grill, the toaster, and the microwave, so I made lots of rice and mashed potatoes for Corey to nuke for me over the next couple of days, if I am not up to doing much for myself. We are stocked up on sugar free jello, applesauce, no fat saltines, low sodium fat free pretzels, frozen grilled fish & chicken, and lots of tummy friendly beverages to get me through the next week or so.

Corey should be able to spoil me rotten over the next few days. I will be back on the DIS ASAP. I too am totally addicted to the DIS. :thumbsup2

Sending Happy Thoughts and Good Vibes your way today! :goodvibes

Good luck with the surgery! I hope all goes well.

I had mine out in '99 and the laproscopic surgery wasn't bad. I was back to 75% within a day or two, but it took about a month to get to 100%.

I also still had the pain afterwards that was finally linked to GERD. I still had stones (they gave me some as souveniers...) so who knows whether it really had to come out or not.

Did anyone mention to you that it's going to take a little while for your digestive system to get back to normal? For about the first 6 months after the surgery I would get an upset stomach with about 30 minutes after every meal. It would be worse the bigger and fattier the meal was, but prepare yourself for high-tailing it to the washroom right after lunch everyday for a while.

Take care!

We got there this morning. I went through all of that pre-op stuff and then we were told to hold on, it looked like there was going to be a delay. The delay turned into my surgery being cancelled due to the surgeon having a family emergency. So, I am home a now, kind of loopy on pain killers, and waiting now for surgery to happen on Thursday. I will work the next couple of days. Because I am loopy, I don't think going into work is a good idea right now.

I am home and easily amused. I can see a nap in my future, but I had to check in on the DIS. :grouphug:

Sorry about the delay; I'll be thinking about you on Thursday.

Ugh! Like it wasn't hard enough to psych yourself up the first time! I am sorry they delayed your surgery!

I hope Corey's bank issues get sorted out soon, and that your surgery goes without a hitch! :wizard: I'm thinking of you girls!! :goodvibes

I will admit that I was more ok with having to have surgery done on Monday than I am about having it done tomorrow. I was in a better place mentally for sure, but for whatever reason, I am going in tomorrow to get it done.

Corey's banking issues seem to be mostly mopped up at this point, but we are sort of holding our breath for the potential more bad news.

Tomorrow is also the one year anniversary of death of one of our dogs. I miss her so much, still. I have only had one other animal that I have missed this much and that was my childhood dog. The fact that she died a year ago was in my mind when I set the surgery date for Monday, because I had hoped to do something special in her memory tomorrow, but now that's not going to be possible at all.

Anyway, I feel crappy and I am a bit depressed that this isn't over yet. I am off to go shave my legs and my belly again. I can't be a stubbly beast tomorrow. I will be back here when I get home, or Corey will be, if I am too stoned to function. :upsidedow

Everything is going to go well! See you as soon as you get back and go in there with happy thoughts. :lovestruc
