Terrible Rain!! What to do? Help!

Actually here in Florida the next 10 days we will be in a very rare weather pattern.

System in the Gulf is stationary and will give most of Florida lots of clouds and rain the next 10 days. NOT steady all day rain but on and off clouds and showers and storms and not much sun at all the next 10 days.

This is such a bummer! I know that the region really needs the rain, but a 10-day system?!?! Thank goodness we'll be there for 16 days starting tomorrow. Perhaps the last week will get better? Any hope?

Not gonna lie, I hate when it rains in Disney (the more sun the better for me.) But we always bring ponchos just in case and have had to wear them before. We just hit the indoor attractions or a restaurant depending on the time and make the most of it. One of the rain storms we were at the Poly and DH took kids over to GCH to grab a snack. They went through the longhouses between us and the GCH to dodge as much rain as possible but the kids loved it!! It's still one of the memories they talk about.

My boys still talk about the day we spent in AK during a torrential rain storm in 2011. You wouldn't think AK is good in the rain but it was a great day! All the animals were out on the safari so we rode it twice....

My 2 sons and my favorite day at AK was also in the pouring rain/thunderstorm! We waited over an hour under an awning with about 20 of our closest friends (low crowd time of year: early Dec.), most people left. Rain stopped about 4pm, and then everything was walk on - DS did EE about 10x in a row. All the animals come out for the Safari - best safari ever for us.
Since then, for years, we always say "we love rain at Disney World."

This is our first June trip, leaving tomorrow, and I've had to laugh at the weather reports because this is also the first time rain was going to be a factor. My two concerns were 1) what this would do to the fireworks and nighttime shows, and 2) whether or not I'd have to scrap our Typhoon Lagoon day. Thanks to all on this thread who answered question 1, and as for question 2, I'll wait til the last possible minute to make that call.

Other than that, our ponchos were the first thing that went into the carry-on, and the smiles are kind of permanent. Because Disney!!!

Great day to hit TL. You are going to be wet anyway and unless you are going to sunbath it is perfect. Low crowds plenty of room and I am paying to get soaked! Not like its cold February rain so if you are wet from the pool or wet from the rain.... does it matter? Only thing is lightening but that is usually brief.

I don't mind it raining because you're not wrong, we're wet anyway! And with an 11 year old son in tow, sunbathing was never going to happen. But something tells me the CMs aren't real excited about people climbing tall water structures if that lightning is around, and THAT was my only real worry.

1) they will be delayed or cancelled if there is lightning. If it's just rain most night time shows go as planned (not Fantasmic!) nnot sure about RoL either since there are live performers, maybe they have a substitute shoow with no performers
2) TL go early, our rain pattern is right after 3 or 4pm. They will still allow you to go on the pools and slides if it's only rain. If there's lightning no way.

Rain equals significantly smaller crowds and cooler temperatures. Yes it sucks I get that, but we had a blast the time it rained on us. Of course with lightning and such there is a safety concern, but once it passes go out and enjoy the short lines of an empty park!! It's only water, chances are you'll be sweating damn near enough to be drenched anyway...Lol!!

Yes it should get better by the end of next week. Probably by thursday or friday the sun should start coming out.

We watched Illuminations during the tail end of a tropical storm last year. We've hit TS on the last 3 or 4 of our trips. We wear Keen or Teva sandals, rain jackets, cell phone in a ziploc and have fun! Yes, stay inside during lightning but other than that, no way would we stay in the room because of rain.

We went to TL on a rainy day (no lightning) last June, and it was great! There was hardly anyone else there. My kids road Crush 'n Gusher 8 or 9 times in a row. I sat with my feet in the pool where it comes out and waited for them to come back again. They loved it!

As much research as I did, I failed to grasp the whole summer afternoon storm thing in Florida.

I don't mind the rain, but I mind downpours soaking wet sideways rain and lightening.

We had a great trip, but I think I'm going to stick with an early May trip next year and my October trip.

The heat, crazy crowds, and rain was a bit of a put off.

Don't get me wrong, we were in it to win it and had a blast, but I didn't enjoy the unpredictableness of it all.
(I know you cant predict the weather 100 percent, but my week in Orlando was nuts!).

We had a lot of rain/lightning on our last trip in August 2015. The only day it kind of ruined was our AK day; we tried to wait out the storm but it POURED for over an hour and by then the 2-year-old was over it. Other than that day the rain didn't last too long so we just dealt with it.

The most annoying thing (which happened to us a lot) was that there'd be lightning in the distance but no rain. So the pools and all the outdoor attractions would close and you'd have no idea until you got to it. More than once we'd try to go swimming in the afternoon and we'd get down there to find the pool closed because of lightning that we couldn't see.

For both you and north of mouse, this is a decision you are making. You could do what others do and just figure it out and be happy. This is weather. It's weather that can be expected.

Yes, you're right - it's a decision we're making, and it's to leave when the rains set in for days (we'll deal with short TS's each day). We know there are other things to occupy us, but that's not why we're there, so we just leave and enjoy something somewhere else, or go home. No whining with us, just the way we handle it. We accept it - very similar to so. LA weather.

By the way, we were also there during the 'infamous' Dec. '10 freezes!! We left 2 days early! I don't do highs of 40's with wind either when we're trying to have fun!! There was 'ice' in the morning at the wharf at MK!!!

I really agree with all of this. If you are going to feel like your vacation is going to be ruined by weather, maybe Orlando with its somewhat unpredictable weather isn't a great choice. No one can control the weather. You can control your attitude which is how even a hurricane didn't ruin our last WDW vacation.

Again, no whining in the post you referenced to!! And yes, Orlando (including the weather I've been used to in so. LA) is a very desirable choice for us to vacation. Everyone deals with vacations their own way - no right or wrong choices - ours is to leave 'if' the rains set in. So, yes, we 'do' control our attitudes - not sure where all this is coming from!!

We were there one year when the storms hit. They herded us under the covered pavilions and wouldn't let anyone leave - even had to escort you to the bathroom!! After about two hours, the park never reopened and they escorted us in small groups to the exit. 'Most' had already left as soon as the TS's started. So, they're not always brief, and they close the water parks if lightening is anywhere in the area.

Some of the best days we ever had were when it rained. A lot of the time, the rain doesn't last all day, and if it does, I say (like so many other people) throw a poncho on and go for it! I have rain ponchos dating back to the '80s and I often take a selection with me to have fun with my "Disney style". Try to pick a park where the rain isn't such a big factor. Epcot is great!

Although I usually have a good umbrella and not one I buy at the park.

Went to typhoon lagoon today and it rained. Walked on every slide
