Terminator 2 - 3D to close in October

This is what Universal have had to say

"Terminator 2: 3-D at Universal Studios Florida will run its last shows on Sunday, October 8 to make way for an all-new live action experience based on a high-energy Universal franchise. It will open in 2019. This is one of many exciting new experiences coming to Universal Orlando Resort as we continue our epic growth. Stay tuned – more details will be released soon."

I'm sad we didn't get to do this one last time on our June/July trip now! We kept putting it off to do other things and never got around to it. Same thing happened with Twister a couple of years ago.

I'm interested to see what the replacement franchise will be though.

Liked the attraction, but its well past its prime. Glad they're replacing it with a live show, both because live entertainment is fun and the park could use an attraction to suck up crowds at scheduled show times.

I doubly like it because Universal haters can't start with unsubstantiated theories like it'll be another Potter attraction or a screen-based ride. So sick of that complaint.

We saw this coming. When we saw this in last month, we noticed that there was almost nothing Terminator in the gift shop that you have to exit through. It was filled with items from other attractions, more of a generic universal gift shop.

Could they be bringing the "Special Effects Show" to Orlando?

  • Live action
  • high-energy
  • Universal franchise

"Get an exclusive behind-the scenes look into your favorite blockbuster movies in our Special Effects Show as stunts, practical effects and cutting-edge technology come to life.

Join Hollywood’s best stunt performers in recreating the sounds, sights and illusions that fool the cameras to create unforgettable moments in your favorite films. Learn the secrets behind realistic physical combat sequences, horror scenes, zero-gravity space travel and even live animation! Through professional demonstrations and audience participation, movie-making magic becomes a truly unforgettable, surround-sound experience.

Just like the movies, anything is possible – only at Universal Studios Hollywood."

Special Effects is too similar to the Horror Makeup show. And the reference to universal franchise makes me think "Sing" or "Wicked".

Yay!!!! We haven't gone to that show in years.

Not surprised. Even my teen kids saw it once, years ago, and never wanted to go there again. Not my favorite either. Am curious what live action will be. I like Horror Make Up show, and the Animal Actors, so maybe I'll enjoy the replacement as well.

To take a left turn off the idea that it's a show:

There were rumors months ago suggesting that Universal was considering replacing Terminator with a permanent Walking Dead "Haunted House" similar to the one at Universal Hollywood. Those rumors remain unconfirmed, but I'd like to point out the fact that "High Energy live action experience" doesn't automatically mean it's a show. That description also fits a haunted house.

In fact I'd almost say the fact they use the word "experience" suggests it's something other than a show.

Anyway, I brought this up on the Universal Facebook group and other people noted they specify it's a Universal franchise (which Walking Dead technically isn't) which may be a fly in the ointment... BUT... it could theoretically still be something similar using a Universal franchise, like The Purge or Dark Universe. *Shrug*

OR this rumor is completely off base, and it's a show, haha.

I'm kinda bummed. We didn't do this on our last trip and I had it on my to-do list for December. Ive never seen it.

2nd oldest attraction there gone:sad2: many of us old-timers will miss it, add it to our RIP list.

So, does closing on the 8th mean it's open that day?

dont wait until the 8th to see it.
i always find the ride that is closing gets crowds that last day they operate

like the ride or not, it usually draws crowds in on closing day.

Well, some of us will be there when it closes. So, I guess I will jump in and see it one last time before the day it closes.

I'm leaning towards the DreamWorks Theater or an attraction based on the Dark Universe as a replacement.
