My husband and I are going for a quick trip in August so we don't have time to eat at both places. Although we haven't been to either place, I realize each has it's own charm. Teppanyaki sends out a chef to cook at your table, and Tempura serves everything battered! It's a toss up for me....they both sound good.

Which would you pick and why? If you've eaten at either of these places recently, (after January 2004) please include a mini review of what you thought of the restaurant. Thanks!

I would choose Tempura Kiku (or even the Matsunoma Lounge, as you can order anything from Tempura Kiku). We ate at Teppanyaki in February, and I found the food bland and uninspired: plain chicken, cubed, white rice, and plain vegetables. Our chef didn't give any kind of a show. We've had much better and cheaper teppan dining off property, and it's something you can do anywhere.

I tried some of the tempura this past weekend, and it was much more flavorful. The batter was light and the vegetables were much more tasty. The prices were much lower, as well. If you sit in the Matsunoma Lounge, you'll actually have a table to yourselves with a nice view, to boot.

My vote is for Teppanayaki. For one, we believe in eating as healthly as possible. Second, we have always been entertained by the chefs, and third the food is excellent! As a testament, we have probably frequented this restaurant fifty times since we began coming to DW. Enjoy!! ::MickeyMo

Benihana happens to be my sons' favorite restaurant; we eat there at least once a month. We ate both Lunch and Dinner at Teppanyaki over the Memorial Weekend, and we liked it much better than Benihana. The grilled food is about the same as Benihana's. The other offerings--Misoshiru soup, Salad, California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Sushi Combo, Green Iced Tea, Warm Sake, Sake Martini--were far superior than Benihana.

If you like Teppan food, or haven't tried it before, you should try Teppanyaki. Go for lunch though; the only difference between lunch and dinner seemed to be the price. If not, go to Tempura Kiku or the Lounge--that's what DH and I would do if not for the kids.

I read a readers review about Teppanyaki on Deb's website, and they mentioned that lunch and dinner prices are the same as of January 2004.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the responses! Please keep posting. :D

disnee25, I just checked the receipts. DH and I ordered different things for lunch and dinner, so I can't be sure. However, children's meal costs $11.95 for lunch and $13.95 for dinner. The receipt however makes distinctions for lunch and dinner--for example, it says Tori(chicken) Lunch on the lunch receipt, so my guess is the prices are not the same.

Donald's favorite is $4.95. We ordered Shi-Chi-Go-San(Sp?). I just compared the receipts against Deb's site. Wow, the prices have gone up a lot!
