We will be eating at Teppan Edo...however I have a shellfish allergy. Do I just tell the waitress or the cook....not sure what to do here.

1) You need to call ahead 24-48 hours.
2) This is going to be tricky.
3) If eating at EDO, all food is prepared on the teppan.
4) It is hard to fully clean and/or keep from cross-contamination.
5) Let them tell you what they can and cannot do.

I am allergic to shrimp (and I assume all shellfish, crustaceans), but only if I actually eat some. What kind of allergy do you have? Mine is gastrointestinal so it won't kill me, but it makes me wish I could curl up and die for 7-8 hours. If yours is anaphylactic you definitely need to let them know ahead of time. At our local Japanese Steak house, all I do is tell the chef that I am allergic. If I tell them before they cook, they always cook the seafood last, including the shrimp appetizer. Otherwise I tell them while they're cooking so not to make everyone wait. I'm not so sensitive that food cooked together is a problem. A lot of restaurants fry foods in the same oil so anyplace that serves fried seafood usually cooks it in the same oil as the fries, chicken, etc, unless they state otherwise.

When I went to the Japanese restaurant in my area, they just didn't "flick" any shrimp my way and cooked my main dish first....this was fine. I just am not sure how it works at Disney. Do I need to call first.....what number do I call?

We've dined at that restaurant before.....prior to the name change. My DH also has a seafood allergy. We just told the waitess and she was very vigilant about making sure the chef knew about the allergy. As a matter of fact, that's the first thing he checked on when he arrived at the table. DH's food was cooked first on a section of the grill that never came anywhere near the shrimp. DH had no problem with eating there and we all enjoyed the experience. ::MinnieMo

If you don't have your allergy already noted on your ADR, call the Disney Dining line and the CM add it. You'll be given a phone number for the chef. Call a few days before your visit to go over any special requests and questions you might have about food preparation and ingredients. A chef will also visit with you after you're seated at the table to double-check that what you'd like to order is safe and is prepared in a safe manner.
