Never been to Epcot or WDW for that matter.
I’ve watched YouTube videos on garden grill. I can get both of these at park closing to be in past dark.

We love love love character meals at Disneyland. I know they are different but seeing mickEy is drawing me in. The price of the two is similar when I look at the teppan menu and what we would most likely order,

however this is my first Disney trip post weight loss surgery. Can you take your left overs from either of these with us back to hotel? There is no way I will eat my money’s worth.

which would you choose?

I have been to Garden Grill with kids and for a character meal it is fun. However, the food in the world showcase is so much better that if I had my choice I would go with that.

At a restaurant where you order you can take leftovers. All you can eat places are less likely to want you to do that.

The thing is, you can get a meal similar to Teppan Edo at just about any hibachi/teppanyaki restaurant in the country. Garden Grill is a more unique experience, plus the restaurant rotates, and you get to see a couple of the scenes from Living With the Land from above.
I believe you can get containers for leftovers at both, but don't quote me on that. The plus with Garden Grill is that it's family style, so everyone can pick at everything.

My wife and I loved Teppan Edo, but if I had kids and never been to GG I'd go there.

My kids liked Teppan Edo more than GG. They were 12, 13 and 15 at the time. It was an amazing experience. The only downside is other guests at your table might not be as fun as you are. That might not be going on right now though.

My wife's rule is to go to GG !every! time we do Disney, so there is that.

IF you're able to get take out containers at Garden Grill, I strongly suspect that they would not bring more food out for you to take away - you'd be limited to what was left after you've eaten.

That said, I don't know that I've known in-park restaurants to provide take-out boxes because of the liability of carting that food around in the hot Florida weather. Plus unless you're in a villa with a full refrigerator, the odds of being able to store it at the correct temperature are slim - those small dorm-style fridges don't cool the way a regular fridge does. And then there's the question of re-heating it, because again, unless you're in a villa or studio, there is no microwave in the rooms - and you can't use them in the food courts anymore with COVID.

Then I'd say Teppan Edo. We chose to split a meal between my wife and I, Nihonbashi (steak & chicken combo) along with Miso soup and a couple of drinks. Perfect size meal for us. Tipped based on us ordering two meals. We shared a number of meals on our trip, saved some money but mostly we didn't want to be stuffed or have left overs.

They are very different foodwise. Quantity wise, imo, Teppan Edo is a lighter meal. They also portion out the proteins per person so I don't think they would have a problem letting you take your meal home. GG is served family style, aycte, so not sure how that would work. If you want to see characters, choose GG.

I think I am an average to light eater and I would never split a Teppan Edo meal!

Teppan Edo is one of our very favorites. We go every trip. Even when I travel solo, I will book a meal there. But then again, Benihana and hibachi style is also my favorite, so I take any opportunity I get to eat hibachi.

I have been trying to decide between Teppan Edo, Garden Grill, and Coral Reef. We have gone to Teppan Edo several times and really like it, but want to try something new. It’s hard to pull ourselves away from Teppan Edo though 😂

We love Teppan Edo. Food is always good and the show with the chef is always fun. Amount of food is just right and staff is always friendly. Family style is just not for us as everyone likes something different.

Even with two adults, I’d pick Garden Grill. It’s one of our favorites. Teppan Edo is too much like the hibachi we have at home.

I think you will getting a reservation at Garden Grill very difficult right now. It is one of the few character meals available and books out quickly.
