Tent swap or fridge swap for the Fort?

On the Budget Board, there's a thread for Fridge Swaps at the Value resorts. They also have Stroller Swap threads, I believe. Is there something like that for the Fort? I would love to start one (buy the tent, then leave it for everyone else) but I'm wondering... is there already one? I think this would be a great option for those of us that fly in from out of state.

I don't know...but I like it...

Let us know if this works out. I don’t think anyone will plan a trip to the Fort hoping there will be a tent or a sleeping bag waiting there for them.

There are no Fort swaps, yet. It's worth a try. :thumbsup2

Bikes
tent/gear
refrigerator

No, but some folks do rent from Disney once they get there, right? I know they rent tents at FW.

If I do this, it will start in the Fall. We'll see! I know they have great success with the fridge swaps at the Values... although counting on having a fridge is different from counting on having shelter....

I don't think a tent swap would work.

How would be sure that the tent would fit your family or that the last person to use it didn't break something or lose a peg?

You are now in FW with no car and no shelter. :confused3

Also most tents are not designed for long term use. Fridges and strollers don't require a lot of maintenance.

My thoughts exactly. Too many variables--I don't think this would work.

I think it is a great idea. I am local and have wanted to camp for awhile, we have only stayed in the cabins a couple year ago but can't afford now. it would be very easy for us to do that as long as there was availability and the tent was suitable, smoke free, cat free. We could then pass on or use again. Not sure how to keep same spot where tent is setup would have to move to another spot, worth talking about.

Tents and sleeping bags are so compact and light weight now you can fly with your camping gear! The other option would be to ship it ahead so it will be waiting for you when you arrive. If you go often, consider Owner's Lockers. See this review www.mousesavers.com/ownerslocker.html

One other reason it would not work is that fridge and stroller swaps work at the All Stars or POP because they have over 3,000 rooms and a lot of people moving in and out.

Campers have a preset equipment list so they would really not need any thing and there are so few tenters flying down I doubt they could keep it going.

Y'all are bringing up a lot of things I didn't think about... But, I have another idea now:

Bicycle swap! You could just leave the key to the bike lock in an envelope at the front desk, ready for the next family. Only thing I can think of is rust. Is there something you can treat the bike with prior to assembly? I think I actually might be on to something with this idea.

Maybe I need to forget about swaps... just stick to dreaming about Ft. Wilderness.

You could coat them in cosmoline.

I asked about that a year or so ago. But, where would you leave it, what about rust, etc. is the response I got. Bikes cost as much as a golf cart for a family to rent and with a few kids, bikes would be much better, but alas, no bike swaps! We drive and if we bring my DDs friend next year, I may just drive to Wal-Mart and buy them a couple of bikes. I'll offer them on the DISboards to the next guests that could take them, but that would be about it.
