In preparing for our upcoming FW trip I'm beginning to realize that this campout will be radically different form our normal camping excursions. DW :bride: , 3 yo DD princess: and I have tent camped many times, but all of it has been done on primitive sites (no water, electric, etc).

What are some things that I might not think to bring or that are not in our normal set of camping tubs? I've noted the need for extension cords and my own short hose for the water tap, but what else might come in handy or needed? I've seen mention of crock pots, but I don't think that's wise to put in a tent and I'm not willing to take the chance that critters will leave it alone on the picnic table. :)

Input from FW veterans would be welcome. Now that I'll have the space to bring enough stuff down I'd like to bring any conveniences from home that we might be tempted to purchase while there. No need in spending money on items we already have.

If I have the time I'm hoping to make a lime green Mickey sign for our site, and I may try to locate some of our outdoor holiday lights to help illuminate the site. We're not really planning on decorating the site for the holiday, but who knows?

Thanks for any help,

- Mark

My Ft. Wilderness Tent Camping List:

Tent
Ground Cloth
Sheet of Painters Plastic (I put this underneath my ground cloth and just throw it away cause that sand at the Ft. Wilderness sites can get nasty, especially if it rains)
Rain Fly/Sunshade
Air Mattress
Pump
Sheets
Blanket
Pillow
Sleeping Bag (only for December)
Folding Chair
Cooler/Fridge (connections for the car and for regular electricity)
Power Strips
Clothes Line
Extension Cord
Stake Mallet
Alarm Clock
Cell Phone Charger
Battery Operated Lantern
D-Ring Clip to hang lantern from Rain Fly/Sunshade
Tent Light
Tent Fan (Electric Fan is possible at Ft. Wilderness)
Table Cloth for Picnic Table
Regular Bathroom Toiletries
Towel/Washcloth
Shampoo and Soap (no shampoo provided at Comfort Station)
Bag to carry toiletries and change of clothing to shower house
Laundry Detergent
Dryer Sheets
Quarters for Laundry
Shower Shoes
Rain Gear
Clothing
One of those really bright cord lights like folks hang in the hood of a car when they are working on it. I usually arrive at the campsite after dark and setting up with just my lantern light is not enough so I hook that light up for setup. It is too bright to use any other time.
ECV (I use it like a golf cart at Ft. Wilderness)
ECV Charger
Small Tent to Park ECV in at night
Tarp to cover ECV at Golf Cart Parking
Garbage Bags (there are cans at Ft. Wilderness in the loops, but one may not be right next to your site)

These are things that are possible at Ft. Wilderness, but I usually don't bring them

Blow Dryer/Curling Iron/Electric Razor
Drip Coffee Maker
Microwave
Hot Plate
Dishes/Silverware/Cups
Dishwashing Detergent (There is a large sink in the laundry room where you can wash dishes)

The things we bring on extended camp-outs with hookups are:

A/C for the tent
box fans
small heater for the tent
several extension cords and power strips
Christmas lights/rope lights/ clamp work light/small clamp light for in the tent
drip coffee maker
microwave
toaster oven
electric griddle
crock pot
blow dryer (all the girls have long hair and this really speeds our departure in the mornings)
small TV/raido

I have a plastic milk crate that I store the crock pot in and when we leave camp I put the crock pot on the pic nic table that is in a screen room or under a canopy. I then put the milk crate upside down over the crock pot and bungie cord it to the table to keep the critters out. I have also seen lots of people that bring dorm refrigerators but we did not have one. Thank goodness we are in a pop up now so it is a lot easier to haul and set up camp.

Definately bring some type of decorative lights, something unique if possible. When you are returning to your campsite after dark it will help you to find it. It can be pretty dark in the tent loops, and there are alot of tents! We had some little blue doggie lights. Get something that won't let off too much light that would bother you when you sleep, that way you can leave them on all night and be able to find your campsite if you have to make a middle of the night run to the potty!:)
