In a heart-beat! Our 2007 and 2009 trip we tent camped in the 2000 loop and had a blast. Our most recent trip in Dec. we pulled or 30` pull behind down and stayed in the 300 loop. The funny thing is we had some family meet us there and they ended up in the camper and my wife and I stayed in our tent again. I`m still not quite sure how that happened but needless to say we would do it again.
Thanks!! I think we are going to give it a try. We really want to add something new and different to our trip this year. Just hoping I survive the bathhouse with 2 little ones! Did you like the 2000 loop? Seems like that is popular, along with 1500 loop, for tenters.
Most definitely! I would rather tent camp in a monsoon than stay at a value any day. Here's a link to my blog, if you're interested, and on this particular entry I talk how I would rather camp than stay in a hotel. Some of it is a repeat of my trip report here, but there is other thoughts on camping that I didn't put on this board. http://deltadawn-dixiedarlin.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-dont-need-hilton-to-be-happy.html

In 2009 we had our 4 yo dgd with us and she was no problem at all. One thing is we were close to the comfort stations both times. There are two in the 2000 loop. I`ve never stayed in the 1500 loop before.
We had a blast tent camping last October. Our best Disney trip yet. We are just looking for a window of fair weather season and school breaks for our next tent camping adventure.
So excited! We will be making our reservation tomorrow! Decided to give camping a try. We will be taking 1 large tent with 2 raised queen air beds, a second smaller tent to store belongings, and a our screen room to put around the picnic table. hope there is enough room. Can't wait to start making a packing list of all the supplies we will need. If anyone has any great secrets or suggestions, I'm open!
Trying to figure out what loop to request. Seems like the majority of people like loop 1500. I saw some great pics of 1501. looked close to a CS and other things. Do you guys think we will need a golf cart to get around? we are going to spend at least 5 -6 full days at parks. (staying 9 days, 8 nights). thanks again for sharing all the great experiences.
what is a good weather season for tent camping at the Fort? never done it, but I don't like it too cold, and of course I'm trying to avoid a rainy season....

I like this chart from the Weather Channel for planning purposes. Shows monthly highs, lows, and rainfall for Orlando. Seems like the spring and fall months are best for tenting. But in spring you're competing with spring breaks, Easter, and other times when rates are higher. In the fall the holiday times around Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas push rates up too and are busy.
Lots of locals come on weekends in spring and fall so you might have to book long then trim back dates to get the times you want.
I was at the Fort in loop 2000 in my pop-up in mid-April and the weather was WONDERFUL.
If you've never camped before but would like to do so at the Fort, you have two choices.
First, you can buy all the stuff, take a little weekend trip near home at a state park when the weather is nice, and try it all out BEFORE coming to the Fort. I would recommend this if you think you'll be camping in the future beyond your Fort trip. Then you'll have some experience before you come to the Fort.
Second, there is a vendor who will provide everything you need (even set it up and take it down) for $43/day (that cost is on top of the cost of your site). She can even put it all together with her tent package and a site combined. I would recommend this option if you want to try camping at the Fort only and don't plan to camp often otherwise.
In your case with eight people it might take some planning to get two more sleeping bags, folding chairs, etc. She also rents travel trailers at the Fort but the tent package is the most affordable way to experience the Fort (I have friends who have a reservation for one of her trailers coming up). And the good thing is with the tent package you can get a Partial site at the Fort which are the most affordable kinds too.
This is simply another option for you to consider.
Welcome to the camping board.
I would suggest camping to everyone. You'll love it or hate it. I would not suggest camping for the first time at The Fort/WDW. Borrow or buy a cheap tent, try it in the backyard or close to home for a night or weekend. If you enjoy it, then I'd buy all the equipment become and familiar with it. At that point I'd go to The Fort/WDW.
My first camping was at The Fort. However, I am local - it's only an hour drive. I figured if it went really bad we could just grab a hotel or drive back home. My kids and I had been wanting to camp for a while. I did some research, posted questions here, got some great information, and off we went.
We have returned to The Fort every year since. Be careful, it can be addictive!
