1. Can you put a tent and a RV on the same site?
2. Will a 40 foot Motorhome and a tent fit on a preferred site?
3. On the WDW website there was no price difference when I tried booking a site listing 2 adults 2 children and when I tried booking 4 adults and 3 children. Is there an additional charge?

We currently have a preferred site booked for April 16-25, 2010.
DH has a longtime friend (Husband, wife & 5 yr old) that would never be able to afford a Disney vacation anytime in the near future.
So, I am thinking about talking to DH about offering to share our site with them (they have a tent and go camping locally). Our RV is able to sleep all of us but I know they would turn down the invite immediately if they felt that they would be intruding on us. They will be given a key to be able to access the RV at all times, since we do not expect them to spend their entire vacation with us 24/7 :rolleyes1

They can either travel with us for free or drive themselves and use the site for all or only part of the trip.

They would need to come up with money for park tickets, gas (if driving themselves), site charge difference (if any), souvenirs, and food (we could even split meals at the campsite with them).

Your thoughts?

The full hookup sites still have the crushed shell pads in the back, but your 40 footer would be right at the road to keep the shell area open. We have stayed on this type of site with our 38' coach and the rear duals were about two foot into the shells to have enough room for the car out front. Click on the word Motorcoach in my signature to see the site.

The few remaining Preferred loops (100, 200, 300) do still have sand pads, but depending on how far back you need to pull the MH, I don't know how much of it will be left to stake a tent to. There are probably some folks here with larger rigs that would know for sure.

Thanks for the replies and the picture (nice coach). Seems like it would be a very tight squeeze. We did want to be able to use are van since we still are using a double stroller.
Hopefully someone has done it and has a pic of the site.

We are staying at the Fort on a Preferred site with a 15x 12 tent and a a 26' camper with our Ford F250 and were told that we will have plenty of room. We are also a party of 4 adults and 3 kids. You are allowed to have up to 10 people on one site for the same price. I hope this helps...........

I don't know about the 40 footer and a tent site, but I would like to say it is an awfully nice thing you are considering. I will say we travel in a 37 footer with a 6x12 cargo trailer and we have always had room for the trailer crossways behind the MH with a little room for Christmas decorations out front. I guess it sorta depends on the size and shape of the tent and how close you want to park to the front.

Just make sure you call and tell them your MH legnth and that you plan to put a tent behind it too. They are usually pretty good about trying to accomidate you. It also helps to fax the request directly to the Fort about 5 days before your trip. Thats when they pull the reservations and start assigning sites.

There are plenty of preferred sites that will fit a 40' motorhome and a tent. There are also quite a few that won't. But, the WDW website specifically states that a preferred site will accommodate a motorhome and a tent.

I agree with the advice that you should be sure that your equipment needs are listed on your reservation.

I also suggest that you send a confirming fax 5 days before you arrive. This is Disboard member clkelley's tried and true form:

The fax# is:407-824-3508

Date

TO: Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground Site Assigner

FROM: Name
Address

SUBJECT: Site Request for Month xx - xx

RE: Reservation # xxxxxxxx

I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.

If possible, I would like a site in Loop xxxx or Loop xxxx with a site that will accommodate the following: (list your "stuff" here) and near (whatever you want to be near).

Thanks so much for your help, and once again I’m really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at xxx-xxx-xxxx or by email at xxx@xxx.xxx

Sincerely,

Your name here

There is supposed to be an extra person charge for each adult after the first two on each site. I believe it is $2 per person per night. I also understand that they are very inconsistent in charging for the extra adults. Again, make sure that you have everyone's name on the reservation, and it won't be a problem. You might have to pay the extra adult charge, but it is nominal.

If, after noting your space needs on your reservation and fax request, there is still a problem with fitting on your site (which is highly unlikely), then ask to be assigned to a site that you can fit on. Unless you are camping when the campground is completely full, they should be able to find a site that will work for you.

Happy Camping!

Thanks for all the replies.

I will present the idea to DH and we will go from there. As I said, MH will sleep all of us, so we will just have to tell them there is a possibility that they may have to stay with us if the site is not large enough for a tent too.

Once you've been assigned your site - and you drive back to your loop and notice that the site you have been assigned just won't work - do you stop at the nearest comfort station to call or do you drive back to the front and speak with them at the front desk. Maybe you call from your cell phone? If you call, is it the 'front desk' that you are calling?

If you wrote down numbers to inquire about, those might already be reserved.

I have never done it, but I have a friend who is quite particular, and who has called the front desk from the comfort station phone to ask to reassigned many times. I would rather just make my assigned site work than go through the hassle of calling the front desk, but it is an option.

And you are right, just because a site is empty, it doesn't mean it's available. The empty site might already have been assigned to another camper.

We have called from our cell phone on a couple of occasions. We usually have picked out another site in the same loop that we think will work. If it is not already assigned, they will make the swap for you. If assigned, either have another alternate picked or they will try to work you into another site. Of course the earlier you get in, the more choice you will have. And you can always negotiate at checkin for the largest site that will accomodate your rig and your needs. That has worked for us a couple of times and avoided the problem of already being in a loop and needing to change.

The Phone number will be on the paper work they give you at check in. It is also on the back of the FW Gazette..

Front Desk = 407-824-2727

We had to call them 2 years ago when someone was already set up on our site and looked like they had been there for days. Front desk told us They were sorry about the mix up and pick any site we wanted. Just call them back with our new site number.
