We are going in Sept. and we really like Japanese food. We have already been to Tepanyaki and would like to try one of these 3:Tempura Kiku, Yakitori House or the Matsunoma Lounge. Has anyone been to any of these for lunch? I would like to know which were liked or disliked. Also where exactly in Japan are they located? Is the Matsunoma Lounge inside the Tepanyaki restaurant to the right? Do I need P.S. for any of these? Thanks, Joan

Yakitori is their fast food restaurant and is ok, not great. I'm not sure where Tempura is and haven't eaten there but it would probably be my choice for lunch of the three.

Yakitori house is great! I highly recommend the beef & onion dish with rice! (it's usually a chicken & beef combo but I always get double beef instead!)

Shogun Combination - chicken and beef with teriyaki sauce, steamed rice $6.75

We ate at Yakitori house on our last visit.......December 2001 and were very disappointed. It was very average to mediocre food. Tasted a bit like it had been made long before and warmed up. Obviously we arent doing Disney for the food alone, but better to spend your money on somewhere reliably good! I have heard(though not tried) that the other two Japanese places you mentioned are better.

Have Fun!

We tried Yakitori House in June and, while the selections were good, the portions were very small. I was okay with it but DH and both kids left hungry. Not a good value, in my opinion, unless you are just looking for a snack.

We eat at Tempura Kiku everytime we go to WDW, it is one of our favorites. It is located between the MatsuNoMa Lounge and Tepanyaki. It is a small place so you may want to do a PS (depending on when you are going) The tempura is very lightly battered and the sushi is great. Don't miss their iced green tea either!

I was curious about Japan also - want to eat there - not sure exactly which one to do - which is the sit-down?? Is there another sit-down where you do not sit at the grill or is that the only one? If someone doesn't mind, can you break down all the choices as to fast food, sit down etc - Thanks!

Japan is confusing, isn't it? :D

Here's the lowdown:

Yakitori House--"Fast Food" all counter service, they recently changed the menu a bit. I've never had a bad meal there, but then I could live on sticky rice :)

Mat Su No Ma Lounge--primarily just that, a lounge. You can order sushi while you enjoy your cool adult beverage of choice. Full service, limited menu.

Tempura Kiku--full service offering tempura and sushi.

Teppanyaki--this is also full service and is the place "they cook the food on the grill in front of you".

Hope this helps!

Anne

We enjoyed our meal at Yakitori House last trip. It is basically Japanese counter-service with a limited menu. For overall value, I think this place is a good choice.....food is OK to good, and the price is good.

My DW and I have been to Tempura Kiku and we really enjoyed this. It is very quaint and doesn't seat too many people (I'd be surprised if it was more than 20). You can have sushi and various tempura dishes. You sit around the cooking area and it is very interesting. This is a bit pricier than Yakitori House but it is also a better selection and better food.....I guess it comes down that you get what you pay for.

Have never been to Matsunoma Lounge but would like to try some time. May be hard getting DW there as she is not a real sushi fan....though DS and I could live on the stuff.

I don't think you can make a bad choice...it sort of depends on how much you want to spend

I'd choose Tempura Kiku for lunch. Yakitori is just fast food, and you can get that kinda food at your local mall. Matsu No ma is a really great lounge, but not enough food for lunch IMHO. I'd rather go there for an afternoon cool-off drink.
