Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I wondered about this too. I kept reading and what struck me is that you wouldn't necessarily win powerball if you kept visualizing it but something similar could happen - in other words you would get money from somewhere.

I don't know - I like the idea of positive thinking but one thing that does bother me is the specific nature of this. I prefer to think of something similar happening and if something doesn't work it's because something better is about to happen. But I'm still experimenting. :thumbsup2

There is more to this than wishing & getting a prize. Oprah had a group of woman on a few weeks ago discussing this.

They were saying that anything that is fear based does not work.
( summary)

If you are wishing for powerball & dumping money in it you are not understanding the principles of the secret or the law of attraction. It is a process.

Is it healthy to keep harping on something like that and not just accept what you can't have and move on?

So, now I don't know what to believe. I really don't think it's healthy to keep focusing on things that you can't have. I'd like to win Powerball....should I keep dumping $ into it and visualizing and all that? But, it seemed to work for something else that appeared to be equally impossible.

BINGO! I totally agree with MAKmom & Beckmrk04. There are many of us, throughout this thread who have said we have a problem with the way "The Secret" was presented. That it is very simplistic and kind of misses the mark.

Thank God this thread is here, because we get to help explain the stuff that's missing. There have been many reading this thread, that are saying say, you don't get "The Secret" - well, it's NOT your fault! You don't get it because of the stuff that's missing, or has been quickly glossed over.

I was shocked and actually appalled when I finally saw the first part of "The Secret" because it's missing so much.   :sad2: It is slanted in such a way, that the focus seems to be on acquiring THINGS. That you visualize and make a list of the THINGS you want, and you will happily get it. Think happy thoughts, and you will get happy things. It's like finding out about Santa Claus for the first time, and thinking that is what Christmas is about. That's fine at first, but eventually people had better learn that Christmas is much, much more, and much, much deeper.

"The Secret" talks about the Law of: Attraction as the end all, and be all. Only, ultimately, the principles are not really about the Law of attraction, that's a tiny part of it. The first part, but ultimately a tiny part of it all. Attracting means you are pulling things toward you.

Just as Christmas isn't really about getting presents, or making a list and getting THINGS, the ultimate reason to learning about the Law of: Attraction is about something more. It is really about your INTER-CONNECTEDNESS TO A GREATER POWER OR SOURCE. Some call that source God, some call it the Creator, or the Force, some call it the Universe. You have a greater connection to the universe than you currently have an awareness and understand of.

It is really about the Principle of MANIFESTING, not just attracting. Manifesting being defined as CREATING. Creating being defined as MAKING THINGS HAPPEN. Not just pulling things to you, but making opportunities happen. Creating being defined as having some control over your life. That with the Creator, you get toCo-Create what happens in your life. Creating opportunities in your life. Creating how you want to live. Making your life work for you instead of being a powerless (or limited power) passenger on a journey, till you die.

Most people are taught that they are tiny, fragile, limited, separate beings. Many are taught that they are even separate from God, or any higher, more extensive power in the Universe. That very power that made each of us, we are now very separate from. Like that power is no longer invested in what happens to us. That we are separate and on our own. That it did not provide ways and means to help us live. That we are living organisms inside a shell of a body, that defines us, and we end where that shell of our body ends. We are taught that we couldn't possibly have any power or influence inside or out of our bodies, how our bodies responds, or even that we can internally have any power over our health.

Many people are taught, that they have so little power & influence in their own situations & lives, that they have to take what few jobs that come their way, that they have a limited range of skills and intelligence, that they have to accept their current state of relationships they have as it, that the few opportunities and CHOICES coming their way are all there are, and ultimately they have very little power over what happens in their lives.

That the two or three choices they are presented with in any given situation, are all that's out there for them. Somehow, other people have more choices, more resources, more money, more opportunities, more luck. But they only have the two or three choices presented to them.

What if: You are actually more powerful than you were taught? That your "power" and abilities actually extend outside of your body? That you are inter-connected to a Source that wants you to win? That you have more resources and abilities to influence what happens in your life than you were taught? That there are actually more choices, opportunities, resources, jobs, and money out there than the two or three you currently see and experience? That there are five, six or twenty ways to live the life you have?

Let's look at Becky's win she just gave, more closely.

(BTW, Becky, Congratulations to you & DH! WooHoo! :dance3: :cool1: :cheer2: )

DH GOT THE DAYTIME POSITION!!!

I will have my DH home every night for dinner and Vaylie will get to kiss Daddy goodnight every night. AND- he'll be working 4 days/week instead of 5, AND he is going to carpool with his brother, so instead of driving back and forth 5 days/week, he'll only have to do 2, saving us and BIL/SIL money!!! It's a win, win, win!

On the surface, Becky's DH got the job/thing he was visualizing. But when you read what Becky is really thrilled and grateful about, it has less to do with money or THINGS, than the fact that she & DH: will be home every night for dinner  and Vaylie will get to kiss Daddy goodnight every night. :love1: AND- he'll be working 4 days/week instead of 5. :cloud9: (He even gets to spend some time with his brother. :thumbsup2 )

That is about creating a lifestyle and precious time together that is priceless. It didn't need the amount of money of the Powerball to create that. :cool1:

Makmom bought a dream car she had been visualizing for 30 years, since she was a teenager. To me, that's about deserving, and living out a longtime dream. :woohoo:

DreaminDisney got a home with a big yard she had been dreaming of for years. (Notice she said home, not "house.") That too, is about creating a better lifestyle for her family :grouphug: in the kind of life they can currently afford. :dance3:

Who knows, in a few years, she may tell us she created bigger home & yard. But right now, she won her equivalence of the Powerball lottery. :yay:

And somewhere in her, already knew to save this week, to make it all happen. That's co-creating with the Universe. Someone else was ready to leave their house at precisely this time, as she was willing and able to accept this new home. She even arranged it ahead of time, so it wouldn't interfere with her job as she pre-planned taking off work!

That's some Manifesting! :worship: You go DreaminDisney!!! :cool1:

AllyandJack, you talk about the impossibility of winning the Powerball. But, I put it to you, you probably also think it is equally impossible, for example: for you/your spouse (and to others reading this,) that you can actually double your whole income. That means making 100% more money next year. Wouldn't that feel the same as winning the lottery?

If that idea seems just as impossible or ludicrous, when it is actually a very real DOABLE possibility, and more realistic, then forget even talking about the manifesting the Powerball. Because it doesn't matter whether we're talking the Powerball or something else. Manifesting is manifesting. The principle is the SAME regardless of the scenario.

For those who have low/mid paying jobs, can you even imagine yourself making $5 more an hour? How about $10 more per hour? If you currently have a $10/hr job now, that IS double your income. And it is something doable. Yes, it may require you to learn some new skills, take some risks. It may require you to be uncomfortable for a time, training, interning or assisting for a time. Manifesting isn't necessarily about being easy or happy every minute. (Suppose, someone in this economy may welcome a break from paying someone $20, by paying $12 to start, for 6 months, by training the employee to be exactly how they want them to be, then upping $5 more to $17, etc. as skills improve. It's a break for them, it's $2/hr more, then $5/hr more, etc., for you, from a $10/hr job.) People are being paid $20/hr and loving what they do.

For those who believe we're in a recession, unemployment is up, there are no jobs, yada. That's not true. I have always freelanced at various careers. I meet new people all the time, who I've worked with, who got in because they knew someone, who knew someone, who desperately needed a person at the last minute, who was willing to be trained and wanted to work. These people were flexible, willing, put out that they wanted work and "lucked into" the jobs, that turned into something long term.

Beckmrk04 told us how there were TWO jobs at her DH's work. Since he will be carpooling with his brother and saving money, he is in effect bringing more money home. :thumbsup2 When he will be switching over to days, he will be creating a slot for someone who wants to work nights.

People are leaving jobs all the time. Even $20/hr jobs, because of moving, career changes, having babies, retiring, etc. If you always affirm at the end of your visualizations: "This or something better, now manifests for me, for the highest good of ALL concerned," do you see you are working in concert WITH the Universe to co-create something that is a win for everyone involved.

While many people fear being fired, Golfgal in a recent thread (Link) told us she was happy to be fired, as she hated her boss. She gets to collect unemployment, and she even had her own solution to temporary work as her own kids make more money babysitting than she was making. She could do that, too, if she wants. Someone may actually love getting a real, experienced mom to babysit their newborn, versus a teen. She has choices. As much as she may have hated her job, someone else may need the job she was leaving, and be willing to deal with the boss. That's a win for everyone.

In the end, it really doesn't matter how many other people are out of work, or how much they make. That is their limiting beliefs that they are manifesting. It's about what you can manifest or attract. You only need one job. And believe it or not, people are leaving better paying jobs than what you are currently making. You don't have to win the Powerball to have a better life. That's not the only way to abundance - unless you limit yourself into thinking so. If you don't believe it, you won't be open to what else is out there, to even hear of other possibilities, or to try to create the opportunities for them.

Ultimately, if you can take care of yourself and your family better, you may use your resources & skills to be out there in the world to to help others to manifest better lives. You realize how the Universe works for the good of all. Again, it's that inter-connectedness of the planet and God/Universe. But, it's hard to do if you have a hard time manifesting for yourself and your family.

But, when we are able to get out there in the community/world at a level of manifesting, creating and sharing abundance & opportunities, maybe we ARE doing what God intends all along: helping teach each other that we aren't separate, limited beings, alone in the world after all. :grouphug:

This is so great, I'm getting so much from this. I haven't seen the Secret but watch Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer but I've gotten so much great info from you guys. Imzadi you are really great, wow. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to find a "church" or "group" that you could go to and talk about things like this, or better yet a channel on TV that would be for these type ideas. I just can't get enough of it. Hopefully this thread will stay open! So great and so different than what was on these boards a few months ago. :hippie:

Imzadi: perfect!

I think, too, that it's about more than just manifesting thigns for ourselves, but manifesting the lives we want to lead- lives we are proud of and happy with. Which may or may not include things. There are LOTS of people in the world who have TONS of money who are so deeply troubled and unhappy (Britney Spears?).

Being happy and having things/money are not necessarily codependent. You don't have to have things/lots of money to appreciate all the good around you and be happy.

I have "The Secret Daily Calendar" and today's little bit of wisdom really was great- it was about how you have to GIVE to recieve. Give more love if you want more love. Give money if you want money. Give appreciation, compliments, smiles, help, and you will recieve. Even if you only have $1 to give, when you give it away you are affirming your faith in God (the Universe, whatever you call it) that there is an abundance, that you aren't concerned with lack- that you have faith that the Universe will provide for you.

I thought that was a really powerful idea.

I just watched a fascinating film called "What the Bleep do we know?" It uses science and quantum physics to explain creating your own reality, spirituality, how we are all connected, and so much more. Some of it was a little weird to me (parts of the wedding reception), but the bulk of it was amazing information. I have been reading some of Deepak Chopra's books. He uses science to explain spirituality. I had a hard time grasping his explanations. This movie has helped me understand it better.

Here is a written transcript from Bleep about creating your day: http://whatthebleep.com/create/

I think that was what I was trying to say in my clumsy way. When I said something similar I meant something that would work to fill that need or desire. Not Powerball exactly (which we don't even have here).

My struggle right now is with the "want" part of this. I agree that it's too simplistic and too grasping as presented and I'm trying to understand the deeper meanings. Imzadi you helped a lot.

Love this thread! :)

Okay we have our first showing later today! The ball is rolling and so far the puzzle pieces are falling into place. I know everything will happen as it's supposed to. There are people out there who this home will be perfect for. And they'll love it as much as we do. :goodvibes

I'm sorry, I thought I was being clear when I highlighted your post that I am agreeing with you! ::yes::

Yes, people, don't get locked into one particular form that the energy has to appear as. If you need more abundance or money, affirm getting money, rather than focusing on only one way (like the Powerball) it has to appear. You might miss various opportunities the abundance otherwise shows up as.

You'll find it appearing in different ways and at different times. Sometimes 2, 3 or 4 "coincidental" incidences join together to make one event happen. Like you may want to go to the Madonna concert, but at $250/ticket, two tickets totalling $500, is way too steep. You just don't have the money for that. Yet, a few weeks later, a co-worker is grounding her DD and gives you an incredible discount to take the tickets off of her hands, or you get offered a chance to work overtime on a project, which will pay for the tickets. Or you "luck" into a few things at a garage sale that you can eBay off equaling the price of the tickets.

Remember that $20/hr job I was talking about a couple posts ago? It might initially show up as a single $8/hr weekend pet sitting job you got roped into doing as a one-time, desperate favor for a friend's boss (who you don't know,) who has to go out of town leaving the pets. On impulse, you happen to bring over a yummy lemon cake :cake: you made & decorated for the boss & the kids when they get back. Baking is your hobby & passion.

Later, because the boss was raving about the cake, his neighbors come over to have some. One of the neighbors happens to be a DJ. (We'll call him PD. ;) ) While PD is booking a birthday party gig a couple weeks later, his client tells him she needs someone who can make a fabulous lemon cake. PD hooks up the two of you up.

You had always dreamed of making money off your cakes. You even asked at the local bakery, but the amount of hours they wanted for the amount of money they weren't going to pay you, because you just don't have enough "professional" experience for them, wasn't worth it. :snooty: Their snootiness at that interview deterred you from ever trying anywhere else.

You let the birthday cake woman know you're not a "pro." She doesn't care. She tried your cake & cookie samples & wants you to do her party. You make the lemon birthday cake, along with a few other items she had tasted. You get a bunch of new customers & referrals at the party, which leads to more. Plus, PD keeps sending a few other clients he recommends you to. :thumbsup2

By the end of a year, which was your visualisation & goal, you are decorating specialty cakes, small wedding cakes & baking tarts, pies & cookies in full swing, on your time frame, taking the orders you can handle, and you realize you are making roughly $20/hr, doing what you love. :dance3: Look how many "coincidental" events had to go together to make it all happen.

While I made up this particular story, we all know similar stories like this that are true! That's how the energy works together working with the Universe.

::yes::

I have seen this happen so many times!!!

All these little moments and chance encounters add up- it really IS a small world!!

I saw that movie myself awhile back. It is really good. There was also a couple things I wasn't sure about but most is so great, I tried to get many people I knew to watch. There is soooooo much in that movie. Its all about this same law of attraction as it relates to quantum physics. So good.

Where do you guys get these movies? Do you purchase them or rent them?

House update for anyone interested...

We had a 12:00 showing yesterday so DH and I packed up the kids, cats and dog and were going to drive to friends house. 5 mins after 12:00 I get a call on my cell that that the people wanting to see out house canceled because they made an offer on the house they saw right before they were supposed to come to ours :headache: How Disappointing for us!
I know there is someone perfect for this home and everything will fall into place. Still thinking positive :goodvibes

Aww, think of it this way, those home owners also used the Law of Attraction & and found their perfect new owners right away. :yay: The new people were drawn to it instantly and knew it right away. :)

The same thing will happen for you. :) Your new owners will find you in exactly the same way. ::yes:: These weren't your people. At least you found that out in 5 minutes. :hourglass

I've also heard "What the Bleep do we know?" is a great film. Haven't seen it yet, but would like to. :)

 Thanks. I totally agree with you.

When I called to check about my resume and the job position last week, the lady said it might be a week or two, but that she would be doing phone interviews with everyone who sent in an application, so I'm thinking that since she didn't call this past week, she'll probably call this coming week! I am so excited.

I just hope it pays at least what I'm making now, or I won't be able to make the switch.

But I have a good feeling about it. :woohoo:

Where do you guys get these movies? Do you purchase them or rent them?

We rented it from either Blockbuster or I think we had Net Flix back then, but might have been Blockbuster. We belong to an online monthly rental. Try finding it in the store. There is also a site for What the Bleep do we Know, a web site. You can order from there. www.whatthebleep.com Just try internet searching.

I am a firm believer in the Secret.

I was leery at first to believe such a concept existed, but I wholeheartedly believe it works.

I have a vision board as well and it's weird to see that things are actually starting to come true for us.

My husband will be starting his promotion in a week with a 50% raise, wishes I put on my board for my parents are coming true....it's kinda weird, but I won't argue with it! :thumbsup2

I also use it for parking spaces and am always pleasantly surprised when it works!

I have yet to get the DVD, but will purchase it when I finish the book.

Keep thinkin' positive!! :goodvibes

Will those of you with Vision Boards, please post pictures of them? You don't have to show too much detail (unless you are comfortable doing so). I'm curious to see how you have them set up.

Are they neat/themed or hodgepodge? Are there pictures, words, or both? What material do you use to make them? Where do you keep them?

Do you mark the items that come to fruition or remove the item and replace with another?
