Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I have been away from this thread for 2 weeks (first week I was attending a grad course, second week at the beach) and I am SO glad it is still up and running as strong as before!!!! I love reading about the vision boards.

I just took time to read back over the last week. Imzodi, thank you for clarifying, and sharing your wisdom. I have learned so much from you!

I know I have been on a bandwagon about "The Secret" but I love it for being the jumping off place that it is. I don't think it concentrates on just 'things', it also covers relationships, health and if you listen carefully has direction to show you how to go deeper.

Of course my enthusiasm is very personal too because dh and I have just been through two very hard years, (ya, I know it's what we manifested... but none the less). We have been moving steadily toward this teaching from many sides (Peak Potentials camps and classes, Pacific Institute seminars, hearing various speakers and many books) but we suddenly found ourselves in a pit and were having a hard time climbing out. It was like we forgot everything we ever knew!

Then on a day I felt was 'the bottom' I poured my heart out to God and wept. That day I found this thread. For many months the spirit was directing me toward "The Secret" and "EFT". But I kept putting it off... and just kept falling deeper into despair.

After reading the thread, I decided on a fluke to see if Netflicks had "The Secret" yet - I had checked before but it wasn't on their list. I checked anyway and there it was. Long story short - watching it uncorked me and I feel like my life is back! Suddenly possibilities abound. I am now moving steadily toward understanding and connection. I am so grateful!! Not to mention refreshed, encouraged, open to change, filled with positive thoughts and thrilled that my world in already in the process of change.

I have watched "The Secret" repeatedly because I need the positive input into my life. I even sleep with it on sometimes. Not because I want things but because I am starving for positive and deeper connection with the Universe/God.

My now open spirit has been led to further study pursing the teachings of D.Chopra, Dr Dyer, Louise Hay and some of those who spoke in the movie, and to review some of my previous conference notes; all of which certainly confirm what Imzodi said
If you always affirm at the end of your visualizations: "This or something better, now manifests for me, for the highest good of ALL concerned." Do you see you are working in concert WITH the Universe to co-create something that is a win for everyone involved. [/B]"You realize how the Universe works for the good of all. Again, it's that inter-connectedness of the planet and God/Universe."

I have also begun to study EFT, (which as I mentioned above I have resisted for sometime), to begin to work on limiting beliefs. I have seen it in practice before but never used it as a regular practice in my own life. I believe it will be part of my growth process.

I said all that to say - Although the movie doesn't cover the whole of "moving in complete inter-connectedness", it is doing what it was sent out by the Universe/God to do. IE: Pull people into a place where they can visualize themselves as 'a part instead of apart'. It is in truth nothing more than a diving board... but as you know, with a diving board you can go deeper faster. And that is exactly what it has done for me and my dh.

I am very grateful for the additional insights and suggestions for study I have gained from this thread. All of you have had a part in changing my life. :grouphug:

I am extremely thankful to be out of the pit and to realize my potential again. Just feeling like change is possible and life is still ahead of me is phenomenal!
:yay:

So dear friends go about your day,
today and every day:
extending peace and kindness,
filled with joy and hope
and exuding love and gratitude! :flower3:

This is such a wonderful, wonderful thread! I want to thank each an everyone who has contibuted for your thoughts, and for keeping the thread alive.

I just finished reading "A New Earth". I'd been wanting to for a while, but posts from Becky here and in another thread made me finally go for it.

As someone who lives questioning the past and worrying about the future, this book blew me away..... I'm trying the breathing excercise to keep me in the now, but it hasn't been easy.

One question I have -and maybe this just went over my head and someone here can help me understand- Mr Tolle doesn't seem to favor visualing things.

There were many things that resonated with be as coming from the LOA, except for the visualisation aspect. I'm confused about that.

I HIGHLY reccommend that you download the classes on Oprah.com (you can watch them there or download them at itunes)

They really helped me further understand the book.

Basically, he says that you should be happy NOW. Be present. Don't get too wrapped up in what you want in the FUTURE... You have to deeply accept the way things are now, appreciate it, be grateful for it, and things will come to you.

He mentions in those classes (and I'm paraphrasing a lot) that it's perfectly ok to visualize and have goals, as long as you are deeply ok with the NOW. He maintains that once you are deeply ok with the Now, and at peace with it, and you are awakening and living your life's inner purpose, then the Universe has a way of supporting everything you do, and "working out." In essence, if you are living conciously, the Universe will support you- if you need certain people or things, you will attract them because the Universe is going to help you out! :wizard:

But- he also says not to get too wrapped up in form. Yes, it's nice to have beautiful things, but you can't be dependent on them for happiness, because true happiness only comes from the formless (from Being). You can attract all kinds of money and things, but if you aren't Present, concious, and ok with the Now, you'll never experience true peace and happiness.

Did that help? I know it's kind of ramble-y! :rotfl:

Little did I know that there was a Center for Spiritual Living near me which focuses on New Thought and Science of the Mind. Here is the center's intro message:

You may have been profoundly affected by The Secret. Perhaps you were touched by the healing words of Louise Hay or Deepak Chopra, or inspired by the work of Wayne Dyer or Marianne Williamson. The philosophy each of these wisdom teachers writes about is called New Thought, and these same ideas are what we explore here at Columbus Center for Spiritual Living.

Well, I went to their services today and was deeply moved. First there was a meditation session which I definitely needed. Then there was a break before the actual service. The service really moved me. (I'm glad I had tissues.) Having been raised in a god-fearing situation that preached love and tolerance, but acted in hate, intolerance, and anger, I was so happy to find a place that spoke of a higher Consciousness that radiates love and joy.

I have been watching "What the Bleep Do We Know." This church embraces the philosophies described in the movie such as Law of Attraction, Creating your own Reality, and understanding our connection to each other.

Right now, the church is gathering a group together to see Wayne Dyer in Michigan. I am so thrilled to have found this place!!

If you are interested in seeing if there is a center near you or learning more about their philosophy, here is the United Church of Religious Science's website: http://www.religiousscience.org/

Namaste to you all! :lovestruc

Hey, I think What the Bleep Do We Know is on Youtube. :) It seems to be broken down into 16 segments. (Not a typo.)

I haven't had a chance to see it yet. :)

I just watched this. Imzadi, you're right, it is broken down into segments on you tube. It was really good! I highly recommend watching it. :yay:
Thanks for posting this. I never thought to go to You Tube for it.

I also recommend the book Quantum Success by Sandra Anne Taylor.

Hi everyone! I have seen The Secret movie and was so moved by it! I am currently reading Jack Canfield's "Key to LIving the Law of Attraction", I also just ordered "A new Earth".

I am a newbie to this and have enjoyed reading this thread.

Hi all! I'm now on page 10 and just wanted to say that you all
Inspire me!

Cathryn Rose, I just watched that video with the Lion and cried my eyes out. Wow, that was awesome!

That's so amazing that you found such a place! :goodvibes

I have been struggling with this for a while- my DH grew up Catholic, but no longer feels like it's right for him. I grew up with no religious tradition whatsoever, but as an adult, I really want to find a place that our family can feel spiritually connected to one another and a Higher Power, but I don't necessarily want to go to a traditional Christian church. I want my DD to understand the importance of kindness, love, gratitude, compassion, giving, and spirituality, and while I think we can teach her these things (at least somewhat), I feel like we need a place to go to stop and recconnect, you know?

I'm going to check out this website. Thanks Jody! :flower3:

I had been praying for such a church. I think I needed to get to a certain place in my life before this desire could manifest into reality. I was on Beliefnet.com looking at the religions. (Another great website to check out!) I didn't realize that there was a name for what we talked about on this thread until I read about New Thought. I'm so happy! I can't wait until next Sunday!

This thread has been so wonderful! It has helped me put so many things together in my mind. I am so grateful to you all!!

Now I also have a physical place to visit with a whole other community of people who believe as I do. I am so happy!! :goodvibes

Thank you Becky, this helps a lot! I'll try to download the classes. Living in the now it's so unlike me....strange how I wasn't even aware of how much I spent in the past and in the future, and not so much in the now, until I read the book. Changing that will be like creating another me. what an amazing read!

I felt the same way- it was such a wake-up call, and not that I'm practicing perfectly- but even just the tiny bits of Presence seem to be altering everything.

I feel better, calmer. I haven't had to rely on my anxiety meds as much as I normally would. I feel peace, in my body and in my head- and that is a really new feeling for me. I feel confident that my life is on track, whereas before I was incessantly worried about what I was going to do "next." (Instead of focusing on what I am going to do Now). I also feel confident that the Universe and God are supporting me in ways I can't even imagine, which is a relaxing thought too!

:dance3:

I downloaded the webcast that went by the chapters to my ipod....are these the classes? Also, the workbook isn't available...

yes- the webcast is the "class"- although it isn't really much like a "class" at all.

And you have to sign up for Oprah's Book Club on her website to access the workbook- did you do that? It's not the most crucial thing, though. The webcasts are great.

I had an incredibly bad haircut experience :headache: a few days ago :sad1: and every time I look in the mirror I feel :furious: so I basically stayed away from this thread these past few days as I didn't want my negative energy to crap all over this thread. The thing was, I pretty much did manifest what I had put out. But talk about manifesting gone awry! Be careful what you wish for. It was what I didn't send out, that was really missing! :sad2: More on that later.

It's really great to see so many people who ARE manifesting things and sharing your stories! :dance3: I think, in the end, that will be what really makes this thread valuable. Info we can get anywhere. I have bits & pieces stuffed in my head like Jeopardy trivia. Using it is another thing. It's when we read & hear how the principles work on personal journeys, that will be the most valuable to all of us. If one of us can attract & manifest things, so can the rest of us! :grouphug: :thumbsup2

Glad to find people coming back & posting and newbies posting! Come on you lurkers! We know you are out there. ::yes:: This thread gets way more hits than just the 8-10 of us who've been posting. This is NOT a clique thread! Well...actually we do want to keep out the naysayers & negative people, :ssst: so let's keep this thread is a "secret" from them. Everyone else is welcome! :welcome:

Rella Bella & s&k'smom: Thanks for sharing you stories on how The Secret has been working for you. I found out about The Secret from others & then on Oprah, so maybe I had a biased view from all the hype & expected something else. Since you are both reading & researching other materials, too, then I would say The Secret is doing precisely what it's supposed to be doing. :cool1:

Some people criticise Louise Hay as being very elementary, talking mostly about affirmations. But Louise, herself says, it's a great place to start. A lot of people aren't even aware of all the negative self-talk they have, and how powerfully negative & positive affirmations work. She says if it gets them to explore other things beyond, she has done her work. :)

I was basically worried in that, it's like being presented with the keys to a luxurious RV motor home that can take you anywhere & anytime, but only being given instructions on how to drive to the corner mini-mart and told to load up there. If you were given instructions and the power to drive anywhere and chose to only drive to the corner mini-mart that would be different. That would be your choice. I want everyone reading this thread to have as many tools & choices as possible. I think we are all a great source for each other. :yay:

Moon & Becky: I know I'd love to hear more on your take about A New Earth. :) I notice that Oprah chose A New Earth instead of The Secret to do a 10 week web course on. :scratchin

JodyLyn: I think it is so fantabulous that you found that church to go to! To have a "real life" version of this thread of people to chat with and possibly do things with, and more importantly to be part of a greater whole is so wonderful! I am thrilled for you! :grouphug: :dance3:

I remember Diva of Dragons had told us in the beginning of this thread about the "Science of Mind" and the Church of Religious Science. I know Louse Hay refers to one of them as her starting off point. There are actually Sunday meetings here. I should check them out. :)

DreaminDisney: Glad to know that all the What the Bleep Do We Know segments are on Youtube and we just have to piece them all together. :thumbsup2

:goodvibes

Don't forget there is a study guide you can download at the What the bleep website: http://www.whatthebleep.com/guide/
I started reading it last night.

I also picked up "The Little Book of Bleeps" used off of Amazon. It is a little book that has a bunch of amazing quotes from the movie. It is nice to go through it and read some of what you might have missed or forgot about. I started flipping thru it last night and at every page I was saying "Oh, Wow!"

I had an incredibly bad haircut experience :headache: a few days ago :sad1: and every time I look in the mirror I feel :furious: so I basically stayed away from this thread these past few days as I didn't want my negative energy to crap all over this thread.

Imzadi, that is exactly why you should come to the thread when you feel negative. Just tell us you are feeling blue and we will send love and positive energy.

A bad haircut doesn't make you any less beautiful than you are. It will grow out and look different before you know it. If you look in the mirror and see just a bad haircut, then that is a shame. Look again, and see a heart and soul filled with light, love, and positive energy. We've never seen your face, but all of us here on this thread know exactly how beautiful you are!!!

Also, now you can buy that hat/scarf/other hair accessory that you've always wanted and see how foxy you look. ;)

:grouphug:

Hi everyone! I got my movie of The Secret and watched it again! I also have a gratitude journal and every day I'm writing down what I'm Thankful for. I've started reading "A new earth" and I've had to re-read chapters. I've got a lot of new books to read and feel great about bringing positive energy into my life. I've turned my employee onto this too. She said she noticed a change in my attitude lately:)

I do have a question though....
Like I said I am trying to remain positive and feeling good (btw, I love that song!), my problem is with my kids. They are always mad at something and being negative towards anyone they speak to. How do I get them to open to trying to being more positive??? Sometimes they will try to argue and I swear they enjoy that!

<sniff!> Awww, thanks JodyLyn. What you said really means a lot to me. ::yes:: :)

Wow, I love how this thread is going. I wanted to share my experience of The Secret with you guys. I bought the dvd about a year ago.......and never watched it until maybe 4 months ago. I've always tried to live positively but until I watched the movie, I didn't really have a direction. Sounds weird I know. It's been interesting how everyone sees me b/c I am seeing myself differently. Even dh has been asking, why I'm so happy when he gets on the phone with me. Dh has been deployed for the past 11 months, but we like to find something that we can do together and discuss it on the phone, like read a book or watch a movie. I had been telling him about the Secret, and he bought it and watched it. He started telling me about it and I finally sat down and watched it. For over a year since I've had the movie, I had always told myself I didn't have time. Well, after I talked to dh after I he watched the movie, I told myself that I had time and I was going to watch it that following weekend. That weekend, my parents asked to take dd's for the weekend. I sat down, watched it, took notes and started a gratitude journal.

It's amazing what has happened since then. In terms of career wise, I finally the job that I've been wanting since I graduated college. I had been applying with this employer off and on (more on) for the past 7 years. At one point I was even sent a letter that said that I wasn't qualified for an entry level admin position with this employer. :confused3 Well, I start on monday!!! Dh got his promotion last month. He's also coming home a couple of days earlier than he expected from his deployment. That's the day that I was counting down to so it wasn't a surprise to me:goodvibes

Now I'd like to read a New Earth and some Wayne Dyer books.

I loaned it to two coworkers, one has really into it and we discuss it a lot. The other told me that she "researched" it through wikipedia and didn't believe it in and that it was too simplistic. I started to email her about her "research" but my other coworker was talking about it and we didn't want to deal with the other ones negativity.
