Tell me your non-Disney vacation plans!

We are visiting London and parts of Scotland for two weeks in May with my father and wife. We fly home on the day of the royal wedding. The apartment we rented from VRBO in London was cancelled two days ago. Apparently the owners were told by building management they were no longer able to do short term leases. The rental manager did find us a somewhat comparable apartment for the same price but not in the same neighbourhood. I've rented at least 20 times from VRBO and this is the first time this has ever happened to us. It's always been my worst nightmare. The price of accommodations have sky rocketed since we booked 4 months ago.

The very first time we rented from VRBO, the place sold after I'd already booked. New owners honored the agreement, but I had to get a refund from the original owner & rebook.

Our plans changed pretty drastically. We were set for a three week road trip to the Rockies but a few factors made that a better plan for summer of 2019.

The plan right now is a week at the family cottage in Northern Ontario this summer. We also are planning camping for a few weekends to Letchworth State Park and the Finger Lakes regions. Then in September I will be going on a 12 night British Isles cruise with my sister and my parents.

2019 we want to take the whole family, dd21 and her boyfriend and our then 15 year old son, somewhere warm in the winter. We think it will be a Caribbean cruise but maybe an all inclusive. I was just looking at destinations tonight.

And finally, sometime in 2019 (probably summer) we will take that trip to the Rockies.

We have been on one cruise and have two more planned. We have a fifth wheel trailer so also planning trips, short weekend getaways and a few longer with that as well.

August - Florence or Rome for a week, followed by Venice for a week.

Since you seem uncertain as to timing, please allow me to offer some advice: Rome could take more than a week to see, and Florence could certainly be stretched to a week (esecially if you lump Pisa/Seville/Cinque Terre side trips into it). But Venice? You can walk around the entirety of Venice in a day. Sure, I'd rather have several days there for liesurely touring, but it does not require a week.

We have a FL beach trip planned for late in the year, but I still need to figure out something for our break in May. Because of one potential conflict, I can't book anything until early March, so it's up in the air. I would like to go out of the country but not sure where. Costa Rica, Bermuda, or somewhere in southern Europe are on the list.

We are heading to Hilton Head in July. We stayed at the DHHIR two years ago and loved it, but decided to rent from VRBO this year…a bigger place for less money. Hoping we love it just as much!

We're dong a few days in Myrtle Beach in March--just a quickie getaway. Then in June, we're going to Europe--London, Paris, Umbria, and Rome. In late July, it'll be a ranch we go to every summer. DD22 is throwing in a trip to Cuba in July, as well, then she'll join us at the ranch. Travel is a high priority to us.

We just did this in August 2017 and went on the Norwegian Escape (there were 10 of us). We picked the bar package (everyone in our group is over 21) for our free at sea promotion. It worked out great. I thought this ship was the perfect pick for a group of varied ages. There was so much to see/do on-board we could have made the ship our destination and never gotten off!

Upcoming trips this year are:

2 weeks in Costa Rica
1 week at Sandals Southcoast
5 days camping/kayaking (and fishing for DH) on the Upper Delaware River
1 week in the Orlando area for Universal/IOA and just hanging out. We may do some smaller attractions, but haven't really decided yet.

Disney is next for us, with detours to Daytona Beach and Chattanooga to break up the drive a bit. And I'm upgrading to an annual pass because I have two other short WDW trips in the works right now, a RunDisney trip with DD16 and a kid-free trip for DH & I that will be split between Disney and a town I really want him to see because I'm thinking of it as a potential snowbird/relocation destination.

After that, it is New Orleans and Memphis over the kids' Easter break. We're touring a couple of colleges in NOLA for DD, and tacking on a few days in Memphis just because DD was away at camp when we went summer before last and I think she'd enjoy seeing a few of the highlights.

Summer is looking like it'll be spent mostly at home because DD16 will be in Japan and our family travel budget is pretty consumed with taking her to tour colleges this year. We'll probably get up north (northern Michigan, destination TBD) at least once, because DD9 loves hiking and recently discovered kayaking so it would be a nice chance for her to do both at her own pace, and I'm hoping to get to Boston for another college tour in August after DD16 gets home.

Next year, I'm planning the mother of all road trips for DD's grad trip. Her original idea was Japan but we told her she had to choose between the exchange program this year or going as a family next year, because the budget just isn't there for both, and she (of course) chose the eight-week exchange. So plan B is a national parks road trip from here to Seattle, down the coast to San Diego, and back through the desert. That and getting her settled in to college will probably be about all we have time for in 2019.

Santa Cruz, CA in mid June to see DD graduate college. After a few days there, perhaps Monterey, CA and then San Francisco. 8 to 10 days.

Charleston and Folly Beach, SC for four days in mid May.

We also are planning camping for a few weekends to Letchworth State Park and the Finger Lakes regions.

We are visiting my MIL in Western NY during President's week vacation (mid February). We are hoping the weather won't be so bad, so that we can go to Letchworth State Park. It is always a highlight for us when we visit.

This year, we sprang for APs, so our trips are going to be Disney, Disney, and more Disney (and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, long story). But, after 2018, we're going to need a Disney break! So, for 2019, I've started planning 3 weeks in the British Isles. We've been to England and Scotland before, so the focus may mainly be on Ireland, but DD hasn't been anywhere in Europe. She'll be 6 or 7 then (depending on when we go), so it's going to be fun mixing things the adults want to do with stuff that will keep the kid vaguely interested.

So, tell me about your upcoming vacation plans that don't involve Disney (note: trips that incidentally include a Disney stopover as part of a longer adventure are encouraged to respond!).
We did the Bourbon Trail a couple years ago and had a great time. :)

The only definite thing we have for 2018 is Yosemite and either the Cali coast or Tahoe.

Since I suspect the man will nevah go camping with me again ( blame Disney, LOL) I'm plotting a foodie car trip across NYS and maybe NE.
Bring on the spiedies!

This year we are taking a cruise to Bermuda on the NCL Dawn out of Boston. We are going to Disney for a few days too. We want to do a lot of traveling before we get too old. 2019 may be trip to Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies. 2020 may be land tour to Alaska to see Denali. We did an Alaskan cruise in 2016 and loved it. After Alaska it may be Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, and Prince Edward Island. We also want to do a Disney trip with the kids and grandkids in there somewhere. So many places to go, so we need to get going.

The cabin we rented in Sevierville, TN last August had a for sale sign on it when we showed up. Then again, every third cabin had a for sale sign.

I'm pretty much forced to take the accept (and only) option that the property offered us unless I want to pay $6000 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom for a week.

We are on the Canadian border just across from Buffalo. We have friends and neighbours who have been camping in Letchworth, but we never have. We are really looking forward to it! :)

A week on Anna Maria island in April for the kids spring break. Then we have our 20th anniversary in June and my 50th b-day in the summer. Need to figure out where to go for those. Probably somewhere with just my DH for our 20th and then somewhere with my girlfriends for my 50th. Possible F&W for my 50th. Also lots of time at our condo in the White Mountains of NH this summer.
