Tell me the good, bad, and ugly of Kona Cafe?

DH and I love Kona. We have been for breakfast and dinner. The food was great. The only negative is that it is very noisy. The first time we were there I really noticed the noise level of the whole lobby area and it floats right into Kona. I was surprised that a Deluxe resort would be so loud. Next trip I didn't notice it so much. Also when we checked in at Kona they gave us a paging device and we found a seat. It didn't seem that far away but our pager never went off. It was getting late so we moved back closer to the desk and the hostess spotted me and called us over. She said they had been paging us. She seated us right away so it was no big deal.

Anyway, Kona has become a 'must do' for us.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

love the food at Kona too, breakfast is fab, dinner was fine, this time we are doing a breakfast and lunch here. but for me there is a bad, and that is the service. **Before I get flamed, I know there are great servers at Kona, heck I have seen them myself, we just never get the great servers. we get the slow ones, or the one who wants you to order, eat and pay for a 3 course dinner in 35 mins, I kid you not!! **

Hopefully we will get lucky this time, and get one of the great servers.

What is a Kona kone? It sounds good is it a dessert?
My dd loves the kona kone. It is, indeed, a dessert. It's ice cream in a cone with m&ms, sprinkles/jimmies and some cotton candy. I can't find a picture of it on my computer, but a quick google for "kona kone picture" brought up this one:

(This is not my photo, but it's an image in a public album on flicker, so I assume it's OK to post it.)

BTW, we really like the food at Kona, but the atmosphere is pretty lame. I don't mind the noise level at all--it's just that there isn't really any atmosphere to speak of--I agree with whomever upthread said it's like eating at a cafeteria, lol. Just kind of boring--not bad--just boring. Great food makes up for it though!

i'm excited to eat here, i planned breakfast, lunch and a dinner here. I found pics on the dining pictures thread and think the teryaki steak looks amazing, so does the pineapple bread and the desserts. The Tonga Toast looks good but i wonder how greasy it is, i hear you can get it grilled now though. I'll probably go with the big breakfast so i can try the macadamian nut pancakes. They sell Tong Toast as the CS place so i could try it there. I am really looking forward to eating here! Find some pictures of it, you'll look forward to it too.

Pomegranate Barbecued Pork Chop served on pan-roasted fingerling potatoes and applewood smoked bacon braised Swiss chard.

I substituted mashed potatoes...this meal was amazing. The chop was huge and meted in my mouth! This was one of the top meals from our last trip, my DH had meal envy!!!

Hey people, come on, tell her this place stinks, it's too crowded, terrible service, terrible food, bad location, the servings are small, the place is filthy, they steal your kids and put them into slave labor. Hey, tell her any of those lies! We don't want the info to get out just how good this place is. Those of us in the know, know that it's a hidden gem and a must on just about every trip. Personally, just thinking about it, my mouth is drooling over those pot stickers, mahi mahi, and chocolate banana tart. For our meal in Sept I already know I'm going to order the tuna tartar with fried green tomatoes, and am plotting how to get my husband to order the teriyaki steak and my mom the pomegranite pork chop. Hey, I just want a little bite of each.:rolleyes1 Oh and don't get me started on Tonga Toast or macadamia pancakes, although my husband usually prefers the Big Kahuna for breakfast.

Oh, to the OP, stay away! This place sucks! All those people waiting in line as you walk by, just don't know anything. (hee, hee, hee,:rotfl: now maybe reservations will be easier for the rest of us to get.) Come on people spread the word just how bad Kona's is.
