Tell me more about the DLH!!

We stayed in the Magic Tower in June 2008. I found our suite to be very nice - the rooms seemed really large compared to other Disney properties I've stayed in! Our view was of the Never Land pool. I'm sure it was the building we checked in to, but there would be either a parking lot view or a pool view. We were on the 11th floor. If the pics you have of the Dreams are of new decor - it is identical to our room!

Just got back from the DLH - stayed in the Magic tower (the check in tower - I think that's the Magic tower). Although straight out my window looked at the parking lot and the Valet entrance, at night you could also see the fireworks from the room (and they have the tv station that plays the music).

Yes there was a big thread on me asking for opinions on if I should book it. The pirate suite is 3000 a night, and must be paid at time of booking.

That is, is there a roll-away bed option? Or a chair that folds out in the regular rooms?

So now I'm puzzled... I was just looking at online menus and for Goofy's Kitchen and the price for one adult for breakfast is $19.99 do you know if this is correct as of this past summer? if so, when we were going to go there, the woman who was taking our order so to speak, said it was roughly $70. for 2 adults, for breakfast! we cancelled and went to Steakhouse 55.... now I'm thinking she must have made a mistake! I can see spending $20. each for an adult... I was thinking $35 each was crazy! Do you know, did she make a mistake?
Never mind thanks.... I found the updated menu prices here.... with the gratuitie added in etc. it would indeed come to about $70. for 2 adults to eat breakfast....I find that to be just too much.

Yes, it is definitely costly, and for some it is not worth it and they would rather spend that kind of money elsewhere in DLR. Totally understandable! A lot of folks prefer Storytellers or Lilo and Stitch, or no character meals at all! For me, the Blue Bayou is not a big deal but for mostly everyone else, it is! I can say that the Premium AP does take a good chunk off of the Goofy's bill, so that comes in handy for me! But I am sticking with Hawky and Tracer in that I LOVE Goofy's and for us (my friends and me), it is worth it. I am not too crazy about dinner at Goofy's but the all you can eat breakfast choices I love! They have a great selection. Currently, the price is even higher than what you found because it is the holiday season and they raise it slightly, then lower it again during the off-peak season. And, of course, dinner is more expensive than breakfast.

I want to try Steakhouse 55 for the first time. I have been eager to eat there. I don't eat steak often AT ALL, but every once in a great while it would be nice to have a good one, but I am not sure that choice will fly with my friends. They may want something a little different.

Yes, you can fit 5. Most rooms have 2 queens and a daybed. We never have any problem fitting our family of 5 in a room at DLH.

I read that a regular room sleeps 5 - does anyone know whether the hotel would allow us to stay in a regular room and bring in a cot for one person? I see that there are suites available, but I really can't afford to pay $600 per night, which is the price I saw online!

They will not officially allow this, as it is a fire code violation. All CA hotels have a limit of 5/room unless it's a suite or something. Note that it has nothing to do with square footage, but is simply the number allowed per room, regardless of size. However, we had oldest dd stay in our room with us last year when she was able to meet us at the last minute (she made 6 in the room) and though the staff knew it, they did not say anything. In fact, the went out of their way to offer us extra towels, rollaway etc so we'd be more comfortable. You would not be able to book the room for 6, but if you book for 5 and ask for a rollaway, they will not care. Before I get jumped on for saying that, I will quickly say that I'm not necessarily suggesting that's what you should do We had no need for a rollaway, we just used the daybed. We had 3 girls (5, 5, and 8) sleep in one queen, dh and I in the other, and oldest dd (25) on the daybed. The rooms are large and a rollaway would fit if that's what would work better for you.

Also, if you ever go to Hawaii, they have a limit of 4/room!

Yes 5 per room. The mickey, and princess rooms start at around 600, or 650 a night as they said it's basically paying for 2 rooms. Our first time at DLH in 06 we did a 2 bedroom suite this was before they had the themes like now. It was 3 adults, 2 kids and the space was great. For us we like our space, but the price can creep up on you if it's outside your budget. You might see if you can get 2 rooms at AP rate if you are an ap holder that may make it a bit budget friendly.

Well we are back - we were at DLH from 11/27-12/1. We stayed in the magic tower, 2nd floor so we couldn't see much of the pool... but we only had paid for standard view so I didn't care! We were right at the corner by the coffee shop and I was worried thatit was going to be loud, but it was not. The whole place was enjoyably quiet, and we went to bed early!

We drove the boats, that was fun, as they work really well. We ate at Goofy's which I enjoyed - although the kids were being a bit of a pain at that point. We ate once at the Croc's bites, and it was fine. Standard theme park food.

The Never Land pool was pretty cold!! But both of the Cove pools were warm like bath water! Awesome!!! The little pool was almost all 3 feet or less, so the kids could stand. DH and I just had a beer with our feet in the water. It was our own private pool, there was no one else there. DH and the boys played a little beach volleyball too.

We took the monorail a couple of times, but usually we walked. We used the GCH entrance to DCA both times we went there in the morning... beat most of the rush to TSM although there was no CM leading a line like last time we were there.

If you can think of any specific questions, I can try to remember the answers! Have fun!!

Leaving from the Disneyland Hotel, how do you enter into the GCH in order to use their entrance? So you used it first thing in the morning and they did not care you were at DLH as apposed to actually staying in the GCH? We tried once to find a way through there from the DLH but ended up getting lost....

Any guest at any of the three DLR hotels can use the GCH entrance into DCA. You just have to show them your ticket or AP and your room key - make sure you have your room key (Key to the Magic, it is called). Some have even said that if you use that entrance later in the day, they don't even ask to see the key, but in the morning, you have to have it. The thing is, from the PPH you can cut right across the street (the "short cut") and go through GCH's lobby and to the DCA entrance. From the DLH, there is no way to cut directly across the street to the GCH, really, so you'd have to walk through DTD to get to the GCH OR go to the front of the PPH hotel to do that, and then cross the street to get to the GCH and the DCA entrance. By that time, in all the walking you have done, it has sort of negated any time you may have been shaving off by using the GCH DCA entrance. I mean, don't get me wrong, if you don't mind the walking then it is a great way to see DTD or see the grounds of the PPH and the GCH, but you aren't going to really benefit too much from using the DCA entrance in the GCH. You get to the TSMM line just a few minutes before the people waiting at the main DCA entrance, that's about it!

Yes, just enter the GCH entrance (we went from DTD, just a Libby Lu) and head toward Napa Rose, the entrance is there. All three hotels can use it. They definitely ask to see your key in the morning... I was told last trip that after noon you don't need it. They open it about 9:30am - we usually leave someone to hold a spot at the front of the rope that is right there and then send someone for Soarin' FP. We usually line up about 9:15am - this time we grabbed breakfast at La Brea and ate it in line. I like not having to go through the huge security line outside.

Last trip (last weekend in Oct.) they had a TSMM CM come up about 9:45am and slowly walk everyone to the ride and through the queue. We went Saturday after Thanksgving, and that next Monday, and no special line. Other people seem to know about this because lots of people came up asking about the line. Without the line (bummer) we had to book it pretty quickly - I think some people from the other rope beat us, but not many. We had about a 5-10 min. wait that Sat, but on Monday we walked right on, and rode with 10 min. waits 2 more times!

I asked a CM at TSMM about the line and he said they only do it when it is expected to be really crowded (like NOT the Sat. after Thanksgiving????) - but he was right. When we got off, the line was only almost at the end of the queue, vs. the last weekend in Oct. when we got off, the line was across the walkway and back under that tunnel.

We found an entrance into the GCH grounds, but there was no way to get anywhere it was just a sort of wilderness park area with a lot of exit doors coming out from the hotel but none going in. Don't remember where the location of that was in DTD.

There is the DTD/Libby Lu route to GCH, and you could also walk from the DLH to the PPH, cross the street and go into GCH's front doors and through the lobby. There is a gated area to GCH off of DTD but you cannot go in that way unless you are a guest there, I think! Either way, getting from DLH to the DCA entrance in GCH is lengthy. It really makes more sense to just walk from DLH to the main entrance of DCA. The only reason PPH is kind of close to GCH is because it is directly across the street.
