Tell me all about the Cuttlebug

I had to return a gift that my DMIL got me. Rather than mess with a gift card or credit she decided to give me money to spend at M's. I used part of the money on the Cuttlebug since it was 50% off this week. I usually research my purchases for weeks before buying so this was a bit of an impulse for me. Before I open it, please tell me all about it. I am most interested in embossing with it since I have a bug and lots of carts. I know way back when I first started scrapping I saw ladies emboss something then use a heat gun. What was all that about?

Bottom Line: Is the cuttlebug worth $40 if you already have a baby bug?

Heat embossing is with embossing powder and pigment ink. That makes a raised stamped image.

The cuttlebug (and all the lovely embossing folders!), make a raised image, but it's not stamped. It's just sort of smashed into the paper. Here's a blog that has lots of ideas. Capadia Designs

It's a good investment, if you have any sizzix dies, or want to start buying the embossing folders. You can also use Spellbinders in it (did you know Jo's sells them now? I saw them today!).

Thanks for clarifying! All the CB stuff was 50% off so I got 3 embossing folders and the machine. It looks really cool, especially for cards. I must admit the first thing I thought of doing with it was making the dinos I cut with DT textured! lol

Oh my crafts has several of the christmas folders for $2.99.

I did not see the spellbinders...I will have to look the next time I am over there.

I love my bug! The embossing folders are awesome. You can emboss your letters that you cut with your cricut and so on and on and on!

My cuttlebug was a total impulse buy. At that moment, I just HAD to have the ability to emboss. And I actually have used it a lot - mainly for cardmaking. I also used a Cuttlebug die for my Christmas cards this year, which made it very fast going. I'm definitely glad I bought it! (And embossing folders are way cheap compared to Cricut cartridges, so I didn't feel guilty stocking up on those!)

I have a feeling that is where I am headed.

I embossed my T-Rex with the tiny dots and he has great pebbly skin. I would post a picture but it is for Cropping With The Stars. (Wish me luck...and good luck to anyone else who has entered! )

I had a M's giftcard and with the 50% off... it was only $25 out of my pocket (with three folders too!)

But yesterday I got an email from M's with an additional 20% off entire purchase this weekend during certain hours! GRRRR... I could have gotten it even cheaper!

If I am in that area I will swing by and get more folders...

I love my cuttlebug for cards. I personally have not used it for any scrapbook pages, but then again I have not been doing many layouts lately. But I use it on just about every card I make. I am so glad I got mine when I did. I have had mine for almost a year now.
