Tell me all about Old Key West!

Someone mentioned something about not liking the fact that there is no room service. You have to remember that this is not much like a hotel. It is really more of a vacation home resort. If you were to get room service from Olivia's, I dare say it would be very difficult to get the food there before it got cold!
I honestly think it could be done---room service from Olivia's---but it would take extra staff and planning on OKW's part and might increase our dues ?

There are 2 onsite restaurants at my offsite timeshare, Vistana and they offer room service. Vistana is set up exactly like OKW pretty much---they are just as big and spread out (probably even bigger actually). They have fully equipped kitchens and 85% are 2 bedroom villas. Yet we can order room service from both the onsite restaurants and also the Pizza Hut that they have onsite. Not sure why OKW doesn't offer anything like this ? I mean, we still love OKW and don't really miss the room service , but it would be a nice option to offer. It seems alot of people find fault with OKW because of the lack of dining options. It's nice that Giordanno's delivers and their food is very good ;)

I do know they have activies, but I think they tend to change over time. We have always consulted the little newspaper they give you at check in for each trip if we have youngsters with us. I know they have some crafts and also offer fishing and an "unbirthday party".

I'm going in May for the first time and love this thread. Keep em coming!

Can you see the midnight fireworks from OKW? And do they have them every night?
Thanks,
DJ

we bought in '93 and OKW is DVC to us. in fact we never stayed anywhere else until last year.. OKW has a very relaxed feel, calm amidst the choas of WDW.. one of our favorite memories is coming back from the parks with tired cranky little ones, DH put the kids in the big whirlpool tub, I made dinner, we were sitting on the balcony eating and watching the fireworks.. :)

westjones depending on the location of the unit you can see fireworks from epcot and mgm...

A great resort. We saw it in 1993,and regret not buying until 1998,we just got in before the resort was sold out.

Only downside they could do with a disney pizza delivery service, and if goods to go could be expanded.

Yep....and I listed the pizza link in my post #18 of this thread.
And further on food, I agree with Diane when she said :

It would be great if Olivia's would offer room service ! BUT,they'd have to get a system down and use those stay-hot food bags (or something similar)maybe. It would make a great addition to the resort for those that don't feel like cooking.

We saw fireworks last year, but not from our rooms. We were walking home from the store and stopped on one of the golf course greens to watch. We did see a lot of people on their patios and balconys watching too! OKW is a great resort-I wish I had known about it when my kids were little.

I'll be staying at OKW in a studio for the first time in July. Tell me everything I need to know about this resort! What to expect? Best building/room locations? Any tips for a first timer?

Debi,

We'll be there in July too. We are checking in on July 17th and leaving on the 23rd. We have stayed once before in a studio. Great room and we loved the mini kitchenette. Used it for breakfast every morning and popcorn in the evenings. We were not DVC members at the time. We were moved from POFQ when they closed it for renovations. That was an expensive move for us. We bought into DVC after that stay! Yikes. We love it though. Our stay in July will be in a 2 BD (it's me DH, DD7 & DS 9) and we are so looking forward to all the extra room to spread out and relax.

I am loving this thread too as I am finding out some new interesting stuff about our home resort.

Keep the good hints coming....
