In our new home (we move in 16 days!!) we only have a spot for a stack washer/dryer so we need a new set. I'm sort of liking the Maytag Neptune but tell me about yours, the good, the bad and the ugly

bumping for you. I'd be interested in a response to this as well.

I've learned the Maytag Neptune runs around $1800 but is pretty high tech as well. That's about twice the price of most others but reading the description it sounds like it's worth it. The capacity is also a bit more than our current aging full size pair. Only thing that makes me leary is that apparently there was a class action lawsuit involving faulty parts on the Neptunes a couple of years ago. Supposedly, those issues have been addressed in the newer model. I'm really hoping someone comes along and says they love their set that's under $1k.

Our basement ceiling was too low to stack the Neptune so we got the sears front loader with a dryer stacked on top. It is not the Neptune-like one. It works fine. One thing I was not aware of with the front-loaders, the cycle is longer so it takes longer to wash, but since the clother are wrung out dryer, the dryer cycle is faster. The capacity of this washer is smaller than my old one.

I have this one.

It was put into our apartment new a little over a year ago (apartment owns it). It works really well. The clothes get very clean and it holds as much as a regular machine. The lid of the washer opens plenty far for easy access. It runs relatively quietly. The dryer dries well, although not quite as well as when new, but that might just be because I need to vacuum out the lint trap.

That one is nice. And it's amost 1/2 the price of the Neptune. Some things you get what you pay for. Others not so much. I just can't decide if in this case it's worth it to pay THAT much more :confused3

That is tough one. I'll just say this, having used this machine for over a year, I would def. buy the same one if I moved to a place that only had room for a stackable. Really, as long as the clothes get clean, a washer is a washer.

good luck with your decision!
