Tell me about your laminate floor (Opinions needed post #22!)

All I see is an X.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions! Tile is not an option for us. I know it would look nice, but we want to use the same floor throughout the downstairs. Our layout is a little weird, and if you saw it you'd see why I don't think breaking it up is a good idea. We have linoleum in there now that looks like tile (you can see it in the pictures). It looks nice, but still looks like linoleum. I love looking at all your pictures!

Darn. I can see it fine, I wonder what's up with it. :badpc: It looks really good though.

You said in your first post that you had said you would never do laminate again, can I ask why?

I've had laminate in my last two houses. I said I would never do it again because the laminate I had was so high maintenance. The streaking/smudging, the clickity clack sound when you walked on it, and warping. My son threw up on the floor once, and it warped my laminate in five minutes. That's why I said I'd never do it again! Since then I'm sure they've come out with better products.

My cousin, who is the one who did the installation said that laminate used to have to be glued, something like every other piece. Now they are not tacked to each other or the floor and are allowed to just "float" so that changes in humidity and things like that can allow the pieces to expand or contract as needed. They are tightly fitted together and have a space at the wall to allow for that.

I like #3.

Could you tell me the maker & color?

It's by Mohawk - Country Cottage - Weathered Chestunut

We have laminate over tile - about 2000 sf of it. I am so much happier with the laminate than tile! We bought Formica brand.

I think it has improved a lot recently - ours has taken a beating over the past 3 years - with us, our now 10 and 12 year olds - it's great!

Thanks for the pictures. You know they can tell you what it will look like up against tile, but you have to see it yourself.

Sourthern4Sure your kitchen is the color of the main part of my house. I love it, it looks so happy! My kitchen is a deep red, wiht tile almost like yours. I think the laminate will look good.

Thanks Tnkbl!

The entire bottom stairs is painted Melted Butter by Behr. I use burgandy accents.
