Tell me about your best (non-Disney) vacation!

We love taking road trips and hitting National Parks and other outdoorsy stuff. Right now we are planning a 4 1/2 day trip for later in the week and still haven't quite decided what we are doing. We were planning on going to Arkansas to canoe and hike, but the weather forecast looks pretty bad for that. Instead, we are thinking about Carlsbad Caverns NP, Guadlupe Mountain NP, and maybe Big Bend NP.

One of my favorite vacations was a 12 day road trip we took 2 years ago. We went from here in TX to Yellowstone and hit a total of 5 National Parks and 1 National Monument. We got to see a lot of the country and had a blast.

My 2 trips to San Antonio, Texas, have been my favorite. I went once in 6th grade and once in High School.
I can't wait to take DH and DD there. :)

No Kids: My one and only trip to the West Coast. We stayed in Oregon and went to Crater Lake National Park. What a fabulous place.

Runner Up: Baxter State Park in Maine. It's hard to believe you're still in New England with moose, bears and all the other wild life running around. Real wilderness camping... you have to tell the rangers when you're going to be leaving. If you don't check out on time, they start looking for you!

With Kids: Washington DC by bus. Nothing I'd do again but we went on a tour and really had a ball. My kids loved DC and still speak about it to this day.
