Hey all! For our upcoming trip, we have an ADR for lunch at Yak and Yeti. However, I am considering canceling it, because we have another ADR for 50's Prime Time Cafe that evening, and two TS meals in one day might be a little much for us. What is the Yak and Yeti restaurant like? Is it a must do? If you had the choice between 50's and Yak, which would you chose? Also, what is the Yak and Yeti counter service like? We might opt just to grab a quick lunch here, and then cancel our ADR. Does the CS compare to the TS?

Both Yak and Yeti and 50s PTC serve huge portions and I know I'd be unable to eat at these places on the same day.

Many people on here love Yak/Yeti; however, we are not in that group. We have eaten there twice and been very unimpressed both times (we will try a place twice before ruling it out for the future). Mediocre Chinese food at best. And that includes the fried green beans everyone loves as PF Changs are much better.

The CS Yak/Yeti has a pretty limited menu but the portions are huge. It's a bit pricey (as is the TS) if you are paying OOP. I don't remember the entire CS menu but I do know they had a Chinese chicken salad, Sweet and Sour something, eggrolls, sides of rice, etc. I do believe it's cooked in the same place as the TS plates but the menu is very limited at the CS compared to the TS. Again, it is mediocre Chinese takeout, okay for a CS meal at WDW IMO.

I would choose 50's PTC over Yak/Yeti every time.

We have not eaten at Yak and Yeti table service but we thought the counter service food was pretty good for Disney. If the portions at the counter service are anything like the table service, I wouldn't plan on eating two table service meals in one day. Our portions were huge and DH and I wished we had agreed on what to eat so we could share. Fifties has pretty good sized portions too and you definitely want room for dessert there!

I tried the CS at Yak and Yeti when I was there in January. Had the egg rolls and fried rice, and I thought it was pretty good. I would opt for this CS and then sit down at 50's. Enjoy!

I do like Yak and Yeti (eaten there 3 times in the past year), I do think that 50's is an overall better choice. You can get food at the Y&Y counter service that is very similar to the sit-down dinner, but you can't find anything like 50's at a counter service restaurant. The food at the Y&Y CS is very good, I like the crispy honey chicken (basically the same thing you'll get inside for 1/2 the price) and the shrimp lo mein. The egg rolls are very good too! Seating can sometimes be a problem at the Y&Y counter service, but if you send someone to scout out a table while another person waits in line, you can usually find a table before your food is ready. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Thanks, everyone! I knew I could count on the DISers:thumbsup2

We are on the DDP, so cost really isn't an issue. (Actually, the more we "spend," the better so we can maximize the plan.) I think I will go ahead and keep the 50's PTC ADR and cancel Y&Y and opt for the CS location for lunch.

Are the tables at Y and Y counter all outside? I remember walkin by some, but we did not stop there.
I would like to try it, but not if I have to sit in the June heat.

We did Y&Y last June and we did not care for the lettuce wraps, they were sweet and had too much red pepper in it. The ribs were to die for and the steak and shrimp knocked my socks off.

Would I give up 50's? Probably because the only thing I eat there is fried chicken and I can get that anytime

I really enjoyed our meal at the Yak & Yeti counter service last year, I though the portions were very big, in fact next time I think I'm just going to opt for the fried rice because the rice with the honey chicken was just too much food.

One suggestion if doing the counter service, grab a table right across from the adult beverage stand, then you can keep going back for a Yak Attack!

We were thinking of trying Y&Y this August on our FDP trip. I didn't know about the counter service...now I might try that instead. As for Prime Time...I have been there twice. I don't think I will be back...we love the theme and the antics, the milkshakes and the desserts are great too. I just don't care for the main courses. Try it if you haven't been there before and decide for yourself...as everyone has different tastes. Have fun!! :)

I forgot to mention, we love Prime Time for dinner. I am obsessed with the pot roast, I've tried to make it at home but couldn't get it just right. It's just really good home cooking, if you don't care too much for it than I wouldn't go there.

I liket he idea of doing Y&Y counter service and then 50's for dinner, I personally don't see how anybody can do a table service lunch and dinner in the same day, we have done a table service breakfast and dinner in the same day but lunch and dinner seems a bit much.

Now, we're in the opposite camp. We're the green bean lovers and were disappointed by PF Changs. (we were disappointed with everything at PF Changs, but that may be because we had it as take-out.)

I agree that the traditional chinese dishes, like the beef and broccoli (and I would guess the lo mein but I never order lo mein), aren't the best, but some of the other dishes are wonderful. (the steak does really knock your socks off, it's one of the best steaks I've had in a gazillion trips to disney).

The counter service, on the other hand, is filling. Nothing more. I believe that the chicken in the honey chicken is Disney's standard fare chicken nuggets.

Funny, if you know PF Changs, their 'counter service' restaurant, PeiWei, blows them away for quality as well as price. I thought Y & Y was the opposite.

I liked '50s prime time so I would make it a priority to go to that.

Yak and Yetti counter service was decent. I got the shrimp lo mein which as you will see in the photo below is ample in size and has a generous serving of shrimp. DH got the kung pao beef with a chicken fried rice. I thought the rice was gross but he liked both items.

just a thought - since you are on the dining plan - you can also use snack credits for a huge fried rice or 2 or 3 (sorry can't remember) egg rolls at Yak and Yeti. We found one meal and one order of egg rolls to be plenty at lunch for our family of 3.
