Tell me about Tom Sawyer Island?

As a high school teacher, I just want to say that it warms my heart to hear of a place where a 17 year old plays alongside his mom and dad. We need more places like that! :goodvibes

Edited to add: I have fond memories of the island from my childhood trips.

Please, folks, if your family finds a paintbrush, let some other families have a chance. One family can wipeout the entire load of paint brushes for the day.

We went on a light attandance day and got to the raft about 10:30am. No paint brushes to be found .... except for one that was pretty well hidden. It really made the day! After that,we stopped looking, figuring if there were more, others would find them.

It didn't seem as if the other families on the island knew about this. At least they didn't seem to be looking or talking about it. I think it's still a pretty well kept secret. I mean, if most folks don't understand Fastpasses, then you can be sure that the hidden paintbrushes are still an insider's treat.

The thing I like best about TSI is that it is one of those old fashioned attractions that nobody would build nowadays. We're all too busy to relax and have fun away from the stimulation of video.

I haven't been to the Island in over 10 years (probably closer to 20?), I would like to check it out again, hopefully next time I am at WDW I can convince everyone else to stop there for a little bit.

I was thinking the same thing! I hope my kids still want to "play" with me at Disney when they are teenagers!

My 5 yo DS thought it was only OK. I was a nervous wreck the whole time because there are fire ants on the island. Having previously lived in FL I know they can ruin your whole day if not the week.

Oh I hate fire ants. My son got into some on our last FL vacation and it turned into a huge problem. He sat on his knees for hours playing in the sand by a tree and was eaten alive. Than he scratched them really bad and they got infected.

We are going to visit TSI but be sure I will be watching for them.
