There is a chance I may not be able to take a scheduled trip in a few days. If I have to cancel, what is the latest day I can cancel without totally losing my points. I know that it's 29 days to either 1 or 2 days before my scheduled arrival.

So say I have to cancel -- what happens to my holding account points? How am I able to utilize them. I would call Member services, but they're closed for the evening and all my paperwork is at the office.

So if some kind person could help me out, then I may be able to get some sleep this evening. :)

Thanks!

You can cancel right up the day before your arrival date and the points will just go into the Holding Account. If you cancel on your day of arrival the points have already been forfeited.

Holding Account points may be used for reservations made within 60 days when you call MS.

From 30 days to the day before you check in. If you cancel on the day you check in, you lose the points. If they go into holding, you can make a reservation no more than 60 days out. And they expire at the end of the UY. You can't bank them.

If you cancel 31 or more days out, the points go back into your UY with no restrictions. If you are still able to bank, you can bank them into the next UY.

You lose ability to make a reservation with those points that will begin more than 60 days out. :teacher:

Can Holding Account points be applied to a previously-made reservation? Or do I have to apply them towards a new reservation?

Thanks for all the responses so far. It has been very helpful! :)

At 60 days out, if there is still availability at that resort, you can use them. It's basically cancelling and rebooking. If nothing is available and there is a waitlist, your reservation goes to the first person on the wait list.

This is a good question. I am guessing :confused3 that the answer would be no because points in Holding are not supposed to be used to book a reservation more than 60 days before check-in date you'd want.

But I have never been in situation where I needed to use Holding points so I am not 100% on what correct answer would be.

ETA : Knew somebody would be along with answer :-) thanks Deb !
Good luck :goodvibes

When you say you lose the points if cancelling on the day of arrival, I suppose you lose all of the points associated with the entire stay?

I only ask, because we will be staying for 2 full weeks at AKL next year and I wonder if it would be smart to break it up into two seperate reservations with a cash night in the middle. This way, if something came up we would only really lose one weeks worth of points. Does this make sense?:confused3
