Would love to hear where you had a really healthy meal. Pictures would be awesome too :)

Thanks in advance

no having much luck with that question...course I don't know anyone who goes for "healthy" food on vacation. Which may be why you're not getting a whole lot of posts here.

I'm interested in knowing...

It is really hard to gauge "healthy" at Disney because even things that may seem healthy are probably prepared with butter and oil and are real difficult to get an accurate calorie count. I follow WW and ALWAYS over-estimate points on meals!
The one meal that I know is healthy is at Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom. They have a really nice fruit plate which comes with seasonal fruits (usually melons, pineapple, some orange slices, grapes) and a small cup of a honey yogurt to dip in. Not that filling but it is what I always get for lunch when we go there.

Most of the parks also have a veggie burger that is not fried from what I can tell.

I've had great luck finding at least 1 healthy CS options at each park. These are some of my faves:

Sunshine Seasons in Epcot's Land has amazing salads- their seared tuna salad was especially delightful. Sunshine Seasons also has a delicious fresh grilled salmon plate (you can get a salad, rice pillaf, or veggies on the side) and really yummy soups.

Cosmic Ray's in MK has a scrumptious veggie wrap with lots of fresh veggies and hummus wrapped in a tortilla (plus a toppings bar for more veggies) and you can get grapes as your side there.

Studio Catering Company in DHS has a grilled chicken plate with black beans and rice. Backlot Express also has a grilled veggie sandwich served with black bean salad. (It's yummy, but grilled veggies can be an "iffy" health food b/c of the grilling oil. I asked for extra salad & they gave it to me w/o a problem.)

AK's Restaurantosaurus has a tasty mandarin chicken salad & a veggie burger with apple slices.

**I've eaten some great healthy options at the Value resorts too. Most of them have a create-your-own salad option at dinner.

Whenever we eat at a TS restaurant I try to
order grilled fish or non-fried fish with a side of veggies.
But then being on the DP all of my good eating goes
out the window because the desserts are so temping
and most are high fat creamy things. If I only had self control.

I always go to WDW with intentions of being healthy, and it never works. It's just too tempting and I know I don't go that often so I usually give in. You don't have to go overboard. Plus you're walking a lot and usually I don't gain weight when I go to Disney. (knock on wood)

Dido the broiled fish or grilled chicken! As long as it is not drenched in sauce or butter I don't think it is that bad:)

Also ask for lowfat substitutes for salad dressings they might have them.

Pinnochio Haus had a hummus sandwich as of December but it was not that good. Too much mustard or mayo used. I couldn't tell!

I try to order the healthier stuff but as other posters said you never know the if it really is lower in fat or not. We just try to stay away from the burgers and fried items... Hard to do when all meals come with fries!!!

Many places now allow you to get apple slices or grapes as your side. If they offer it with one of their kid's meals, then they usually let you sub fruit for fries. This always a struggle for me b/c I LOVE fries; but DH usually gets fries with his meal, so I get fruit & steal 1 or 2 of his fries.

:) Thanks for asking this question. I've been wondering the same thing, myself. Just because I'm at WDW doesn't mean I want to eat junk for 10 days...I'm hoping for some photos, too!:)

Also keep in mind that the parks also have snack stands that sell fruits and veggies. I'm partial to the one in Animal Kingdom near the safari in Harambe Village in Africa.

My rule on vacation is to really cut back on portions if you can't find anything really "healthy". Especially table service meals. Buffets are a bit difficult, but you can usually find salad and fruit choices.

May not be exactly what you're looking for, but I have a link in my signature to dining reviews of vegan and vegetarian foods. It may not be the healthiest food ever, but it doesn't get too much healthier at theme parks! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much - especially love the idea at DHS - I was so worried about that one. These are awesome!

Also -I'm not necessarily a fat free type person so I do enjoy veggies cooked in some oil. Oil is necessary and actually good for you if its not overdone.

OMG that is such a great guide. I often eat vegetarian, but I'm not. I try to mix it up, but I really try to make sure to get some good protein in there (lean chicken, or turkey or fish/seafood).

The stuffed pepper looks awesome at 50's primetime. I've seen it there before and never got it - wondering if it was good - wow it looks awesome. I've had the salmon there too - that was great. The tofu dish at Sci Fi looks great too!!

It is fairly easy to eat healthy at WDW on the DDP. Eat fruit or boiled eggs for breakfast...veggie burger or healthy wrap and fruit at lunch, and grilled fish or lean meat plus veggies at dinner. I always try a couple bites of the dessert. A couple of glasses of wine helps too.

"course I don't know anyone who goes for "healthy" food on vacation. Which may be why you're not getting a whole lot of posts here."

There are plenty who eat healthy on vacation. Since we dont eat junk food or fast food regularly(or fastfood at all), we may have a treat of icecream or something, but still eat what I enjoy, which would be healthy food. Good thread, I was looking for healthy options since, my 3 year old also doesnt eat much junk food or kid food(hates chicken nuggets and fries:banana: but asks for salad every night)

This is a great thread! I'm really interested to hear what options are available as well.

DH and I went last September without the kids and found it was much easier to eat healthier without them!! While I did indulge and had dessert here and there, I never finished it. I found that I was always plenty full after my meal that I didn't have to finish it. It was nice to just have a taste!

Since we were on the DDP and got dessert with our meals I always subbed fruit at most CS stands. Since they had grapes or apples for the kids meals, they were more than willing to let me do that.

I also used a lot of our snack credits to get fresh fruit for breakfast or snacks throughout the day. The fresh, cut up watermelon and pineapples were wonderful! Very ripe!

Another thing I did was almost always ask for dressings and sauces to be on the side. I don't use much salad dressing anyway, so I prefer to put it on myself, but even when getting steaks or fish I asked for any sauces to not be put directly on my meal and I would just add a bit myself for flavor. A lot of times that is where a big chunk of the fat and calories come from.

I LIVE for the food at WDW and do believe in enjoying myself, but I think there is a reason most people in this country are twice the size that they should be and a reason why we are stricken with so much heart disease, cancer, and other diseases. It's ok to enjoy it a bit here and there, but there is no need to go overboard.

I totally agree - And I often go for two weeks at a time, like we will with our August 17 night trip - I can't eat like that for over two weeks - I can gain way too much weight if I do. I'd like to find some really great healthy options and then maybe splurge a few times. We don't eat dessert unless its during a buffet. I always seem to end up so stuffed and uncomfortable at Disney - I don't want this year to be the same.
