Tell me about OKW

Hi. Well I'm a little over a month away from my trip, and I just cancelled my ressies at ASMo and rented points at OKW! I'm pretty excited, but it was my second choice, BWV was my first. Tell me all the things I'll love about it! I do have one question about travel times- how long will it take to get to BC from there, and what is the quickest/best way? (I have a character breakfast at Cape May Cafe on our departure day, which is why I wanted to stay at BWV.) Since I am renting points, will I be able to use the pool at BWV? I think my son would love it! Should I expect any real difference in travel times from here that at ASMo? (OK, so I had three questions, sorry!) Thanks in advance!

Traveling from resort to resort takes time unless you are driving. If you take a MGM bus to the park then take the boat from MGM to BC. If you take either a MK or AK bus to the park then take the resort bus to BC. I would not take Epcot bus because you would need to go into EPCOT and walk over to the BC.

So how long should I plan on it taking to get there?

I'm sorry I got a call in the middle of my response. I would plan an hour if going by bus. If you are driving 15 min.
Pool hopping is allowed to BWV. During certain holiday times pool hopping is not allowed anywhere. When are you planning your trip?

1. If you have a car, the absolute quickest way is to drive. If no car, then you will have to take the bus. Honestly, that could take you up to an hour.

Also, since you would have to take a bus to MGM first, you might check that the busses will be running. It depends on what times the parks open as to when busses start. If your breakfast if quite early in the morning, the busses may not start soon enough for you.

An alternative is to take a taxi. Probably wouldn't cost too much.

2. Technically as a renter you're not entitled to the regular DVC member perks which would include pool hopping. On a practical matter, often when you check in the room key card you get might say DVC Member on it. In that case you could pool hop and would be OK if they checked cards. When you check-in at OKW you'll get a 'newspaper' for the resort. In there you'll see the current pool-hopping guidelines.

3. Probably not much difference. It all depends on simply how 'lucky' you are at catching busses. If you just miss a bus, it could be 20 minutes before the next one, or you could get there just as your bus did.

I'm going May 1-5 and our breakfast is at 10:30. When I was planning on staying at ASMo, I asked the same question about how to get to BC, and a few people said if I took a bus to MGM and then walked it would take a half hour tops. They said the walk would take about 15 minutes at a leisurely pace, so I'm assuming the bus ride would take no more than fifteen minutes... Would it be the same if I took the bus from OKW to MGM first?

From the bus stops at MGM to Cape May is slightly over a mile in length. To do it in 15 minutes would require a walking 'pace' of a little over 4 mph. That's more of a slow run. A fast walking pace is 3 mph, and a leisurely pace is about 2-2.5 mph. At 2 mph it's a 30 minute walk.

FWIW, the walk around the lake inside Epcot is right at 1 mile in length. Do you think you could walk that distance in less than 15 minutes?

You'll find that 9 times out of 10, people seriously underestimate walking times around WDW. I know because I've measured and timed a lot of walks.

The other unaccounted for time is the wait time for the bus. If the bus takes 15 minutes, but you waited 15 minutes for it in the first place, and the walk takes 30 minutes, you're right at an hour.

If you want to see some of the distances involved, check out my old Pathways Revealed threads. Unfortunately none of the photo links in those threads are operative anymore because there have been several DIS board changes since 2001.

It is a hassle to get from resort to resort. You could consider taking a taxi. I don't think it would be too expensive and you would certainly save time. ;)

I thought about our taxi just for the breakfast, but our budget is pretty tight. We have an off day (no parks) where we plan to do some resort hopping, so by the end of our trip I'm sure we'll know what will work best for us. I was just looking for advice on the quickest routes and how long I should plan so I will have a basic timeline of events.
