Tell Me About Memorial Day Week

My dd just started school and will be going to extended year as well so that leaves very few weeks to choose from for vacation. It is either August or Memorial Day week this year. We chose Memorial Day week. Having never been to WDW that week I am looking at all the information I can gather about it; crowds, weather, special events....

We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside, will have our own car, dd is 3 and has autism. We already know to get a GAC and plan to return to POR for a midday break. Is Memorial Day week as busy (or even more busy) than a typical summer vacation week?
