tell me about ipod touch,itunes,iphone etc..

Don't laugh, but i'm really out of the loop on all of them. I got my son and daughter an iphone and my other son an ipod touch for Christmas. Do they need an itunes account on a computer to be able to download things, or do they download right to their devices? I know they all want aps and music. Can they share an account, or do they all need separate accounts? And do I need to use my credit card for them to have accounts, or can I get them a gift card?

If they are teens or older, then just hand them the phone and an iTunes gift card and let them do the rest. I'm sure they already know how! (and if they don't, their friends will!) The iTunes account is free and there are a ton of apps that are free. They can put music on their accounts from CDs or downloads. It's no big deal to share an iTunes account, but also just as easy to get one each. If you feel comfortable linking the accounts to your credit card, go ahead. Otherwise, just use iTunes gift cards.

They need an iTunes account (either their own or shared) to put music and apps on their phones/ipod. If you use iTunes gift cards you don't need to put your CC# in the account. My 3 girls and I share an account and my 13 yo has the password so she can buy music/apps. I have NEVER had my CC info on the account. I've only loaded it with gift cards.

With no payment you can still open up an itunes account. I had to do it as we don't have gift cards yet and I wanted to get itunes working on my computer (had a thread earlier for help as I couldn't get it working, but finally did get it working...)

Open iTunes and do not create an account. Go to the app store and select a free app to download. It will then ask you to create an account. You do that and during the creating of an account, it asks you for the payment type. Normally this is where it asks for the CC number, but when downloading a free app, NONE is available.

Later if you try to download a paid for app, it will ask for the CC number or gift card, but your account will now be active without the CC number.
