DD13 wants to go to this concert and I'm not terribly familiar with the bands. Give me some info to help me make this decision.

Thanks!

I love Fallout Boys music (and I'm 39). My 9 year old DD does too. Sadly, I can't tell you anything about their stage show.

I've never heard of the other two.

I took DD to Avril Lavigne last fall and it was great!!!!

They are exactly the type of bands that I would expect a 13-year-old to be into. I personally like all three of them, but one mans trash...

If I were you I'd go to my local library and request their CDs to see if you object.

Do a google search on them and you'll get tons of info.

I don't want to sway you one way or the other...he's your kid, only you know how responsible he is.

If you're asking are these the type of bands that attract drugs and things like that, I think not, but it depends where the concert is held.

Never heard of Hawthorne Heights, but I love All American Rejects.

I went to a Fall Out Boy concert in December (along w/ a bunch of other bands incl Lifehouse and Gavin DeGraw). I absolutely loved it- they really know how to put on a show (btw, I'm 23 ;) ). I saw tons of kids walking around too - many with parents. However, the Laguna Beach crowd was supposed to make an appearance so I think that had a lot to do with it.

They did mention sex and whatnot- that's what their first song, "Sugar We're Goin Down" (Swinging) is all about I guess. It wasn't anything too racy. They were pretty crazy on stage- a lot of jumping, climbing on speakers and whatnot.

I could see a 13 year old being fine. There's much worse on TV! :rotfl:

well, we decided to let her go, hope we're making the right decsion. She's going with a girlfriend and the friends mother will be sitting with the.

She's been to other concerts before but they've been like the Backstreet Boys and such and I've been with her.

My DD15 LOVES, ,Fallout Boy. They are her favorite band! Because of her listening to them, I've also become a fan as well. Some of their songs have a sexual connotation, however I think that most of the wording goes over their heads, similar to songs/artists from our day (I'm thinking of 80's music here). They have not toured in our area yet, but I'm sure if they do we'll be going.

The All American Rejects are good as well and nothing wrong with their songs. I love "Dirty Little Secret", it's a great upbeat song and the video cracks me up.

Hawthorne Heights is not as popular, but I've heard one or two of their songs. They are about along the same lines as the other bands, but Fallout Boy is definitely the more popular group of the three.

The music by these groups is considered EMO (emotional) music. My DD and I have arguments about what that means, but it means different things to different people. These groups are the new Backstreet Boys and Nsync from the previous years. As long as she has supervision from a parent, I would probably be the same and let her go...although I'm such a music fan myself that I'm sure I'd be the parent going along.

Thanks for making me feel old. I've never heard of any of them! :sad2:

I'd consider them "punk rock" (you might be more familiar w/ that term than EMO).

Also, yes, the songs have a sexual connotation like many others- but in concert they specifically point this out- they tell you: "hey, this song is about sex" or "hey this song is about being with a girl for three years and coming home to find out she f***** your two best friends." Both of which were used in the Fall Out Boy concert I attended. Their isn't as much room for "interpretation" or for the lyrics to go over their heads.

Other than a few comments like that, they were fine for teens. I'd say the majority of people there were teens.

I'm sure she'll be fine- it was a younger crowd and their comments weren't anything worse than you'd hear on MTV or something (except they aren't bleeped out).

I really like All American Rejects, they have some great songs, like "Dirty Little Secret" and "Move Along", I really love "Swing Swing" from their first album. I was lucky enough to see them at an after hours party at Disneyland last July. Which tells you they are Disney friendly.

Hawthorne Heights is a new band and I have only heard one song, but I like it very much.

Not as familiar with Fall Out Boy, but they seem to be very popular. They have the songs "Sugar We're Goin' Down" and "Dance Dance"

These are bands teenage girls love, with cute lead singers, danceable songs, easy to sing along to and they do have sexual connotations, but its not overt.
