I think I found a great rate from Michigan to Disney on Delta but I'm not familiar with them. We have flown Spirit and AirTran in the past. I'm guessing Delta is a step up, correct? Also, it looks like you can pick your seat for no charge, is this true?
Thanks!

It's true, we picked our seats in April for no charge. I've had minor annjoyances with Delta in the past, but nothing earth shattering.

We have been flying on Delta every year for the past several years. Their planes and terminals have been clean and well maintained. Overall, we have had good experience with our actual flights. The downside that we have experienced is that we book our trips eleven months out (as soon as the tickets are made available). My husband has to monitor the flights constantly because they change the aircraft and / or the times throughout the year. So, he chooses seats in the middle of the plane and the next thing he knows we are in the absolute back row. A couple of times we have been off the flight altogether (even though we were the first ones to buy tickets for the flight) and he has had to call to get things straightened out. We flew to West Palm Beach last month. When we booked the flights they were non-stop and early morning. By the time we actually flew they had a stop in Atlanta and were later in the day. This hasn't stopped us from booking subsequent trips but if your trip is far away I would monitor your flights every couple of weeks to make sure they don't lose you.

Is Southwest an option? My already good price for my August/Sept flight just dropped by $42 today, maybe you can get a good price through them?

Hi,
We are flying with Delta in Sept. The last time I flew with them was when I was a kid, so I don't really remember my experience. However, I would like to know where I need to look to monitor my flight. I am assuming somewhere on the Delta site? I would appreciate it if someone could tell me. It has been a long time since I have flown, so all of this is basically like new to me.

Thanks!

I checked them out and can you believe that they don't have a nonstop flight between Detroit and Orlando?

I guess I'm just afraid of commitment (to airline tickets that is ... love you DH!). Right now we're looking at $645 for 4 of us, nonstop each way, and at the times that we want to fly. Why can't I make myself book it??!!!

I mainly fly Delta no particular reason to do that. It's just they they are the major airline at my home airport.

The difference is Delta is a standard airline. While Spirit and AirTran are budget airlines. All airlines have to operate to the same standards and have the same costs. The only difference you see in service is that you choose your seat on standard airlines. Other than that it is the custom of all airlines to nickel and dime you for everything they can.

You can do this by looking up your itinerary.

You'll need your confirmation number. Any changes will be noted. You can change your flights at no charge if the changes don't work for you. Ours had a change in flight numbers, and a time change, but it was only 2 or 3 minutes.

Delta is awesome. You DO get to pick your seat at no charge. You can change this whenever you want, too. (Just have to log in).

None of this being worried about being separated from your children. None of this getting up at the crack of dawn to get boarding passes or silly cattle call lineup at the gate.

Tickets were running just around $230 each including taxes round trip when I booked them a few months ago. One quick stop in Atlanta. Southwest was going to be more than that.

My husband is elite with Delta, so we get 2 free bags with him, but we have the Delta Amex, so, starting June 1, we get 1 free bag per person anyway.

Out of Michigan, Delta Air Lines is usually the airline that was formerly known as Northwest Airlines. In 2008, Delta and Northwest merged. The Northwest name went away completely on January 31, 2010.

Delta operates pretty much like the other remaining legacy carriers (American, United, U.S. Airways, and Continental). That means free advance seat assignments, 2-class service on most aircraft, food and alcohol for sale in economy, free non-alcoholic beverages, flights available for booking 11 months out, schedule adjustments that can cause your flights to change, charges for checked baggage, and HEAVY-DUTY PENALTIES IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR TICKETS.

I put the final item above in upper case because people tend to overlook it in their quest for the lowest fare. If you need to reschedule your flights, the fare rules for discounted tickets on legacy carriers normally require you to pay a $150 change fee plus any fare difference PER PASSENGER. It doesn't matter if there's an illness, family emergency, crisis at work, issue at your destination, or other good reason to change. The airline expects you to pay $150 to retain the value of your tickets toward new tickets. The airline benefits if you have an emergency. READ AND KNOW THE FARE RULES BEFORE YOU BUY. You can mitigate the risk somewhat with travel insurance, but there are limits to what's covered.

In comparison, Southwest applies the full value of your current ticket toward a new ticket, without a change fee. That's worth a lot. And Southwest doesn't charge for checked luggage. That's worth a lot too.

The lowest price isn't always the lowest price.

Thank-you PinkRhombus! That is where I have been checking, but wasn't quite sure if I was in the correct place.

Just wanted to mention that if you have Delta Skymiles sitting around, you can "spend" them in their marketplace now. You'll see it on their website.
I was able to book Hyatt MCO for FREE and also the POLY for FREE with our miles. :cheer2::cheer2:
Some Very nice Dis member pointed this out to me recently and I just want to "pay it forward" by passing info along...its the best thing I ever did with those miles as I could never get the flights we wanted with the miles:eek:...... we only/mostly fly SW now!
