I'd like to take DSalmost15 to Baltimore for a couple of days in April. I know we'd want to see the Aquarium and Science Museum. Where's the best place to stay?

Hi from Baltimore  The Science Center and the Aquarium are both downtown at the Inner Harbor. I would stay there. You can get pretty good deals thru Priceline for 4 star hotels thru them. I have a friend who wanted to stay a night at the inner harbor with her daughter, bid for a 4 star and got the Hyatt (which is right across the street from the Harbor for $83/night.

Thanks for the info -- I was to the Inner Harbor about 17 years ago. I'm trying to figure out a few hotels that are within TRUE walking distance of the aquarium. I don't want to have to drive once I'm there. Also, how far away is the zoo?

::yes:: Stay in Inner Harbor if you can. It'll be convenient to most places you'd want to visit. Lots of shopping and restaurants are there, too.

The zoo has gone downhill steadily during the past few years. Unless you've never been to a zoo or don't have one where you live, I wouldn't strongly recommend a stop at the zoo here. If you do go to the zoo, you'll need a car to get there. It's not too far, though.

Okay, the 3 hotels I'm looking at so far (due to central locations) are:
Renaissance Harborfront
Hyatt Regency
Sheraton Inner Harbor

They all look like they are true walking distance to the whole area -- I'm leaning toward the Hyatt since it looks to be midway between the Aquarium and the Science Museum.

And then you're setting up the meet for when you're there, right? :teeth: :cool1:

I have stayed at Days Inn Inner Harbor, which is about 5 blocks for Inner Harbor. Never had a problem. Rooms were nice and clean. I think there was Nintendo in each room.

In April, you can go to an Orioles game.

Fells Point- quaint part of Baltimore, with cobblestone streets and alot of little shops and restaurants/bars

Fort McHenry- across the Harbor from Baltimore, with great views of the city, birthplace of our National Anthem, very moving exhibit

U.S.S. Constellation-last civil war vessel

Little Italy - great food, I know in the summer they show movies al fresco, it is probably too cold for that in April.

This is just a few of the things that I can think of. Have a great time.

You can take a water taxi from Inner Harbor to Fells Point. I think the taxi goes to Ft. McHenry, too.

Ummmm, uhhhhhh...yup.

ETA: I just noticed my new tag! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Congrats! Wasn't that from the thread I started about the songs? :teeth:

I took DS6 up a few months ago for the weekend and stayed at the Rennaissance and loved it. It was very convenient and a great hotel. Nice pool, good restaurant and great location right across from Harborplace. It wasn't cheap however.

You will love Baltimore -- the museums there are wonderful. Make sure and plan for a long time at the aquarium. Between the regular aquarium, the rainforest and the Australia exhibit it can eat up a whole day.

I've stayed at the Days Inn in Inner Harbor a few times (not lately though) and it was okay. Average hotel, but it's within walking distance to the harbor and there's a great little pub right around the corner.

Another thing to see in Baltimore might be Edgar Allen Poe's grave at Westminster Hall. It's not too far from the Inner Harbor.

Depending on the time of year you are going...the harbor all-you-can-eat-and-drink Crab Feast cruise is alot of fun!

I would personally recommend the Hyatt. Very nice hotel and wonderful location for the Inner Harbor :thumbsup2

I love the inner harbor. Its my faborite place for a weekend get away.

Out last trip we stayed at the Hyatt. I got a great rate through hotwire. Its a great location and has a walkway that goes right into the mall in the harbor so you dont have to cross the busy road.

Check and see if the Aquarium has any specials. My last trip if you went after 5 it wa $5 to get in I believe.

We also used the water taxi and spent some time at Ft. McHenry. After that we took it ove to Fells Point for lunch.

Also you can go on the submarine that is over by the aquarium. My daughter called it the shark boat lol.

Not sure what your interests are but the B & O Railroad Museum is near the Inner Harbor. And there is a Babe Ruth Museum near the baseball stadium which is walking distance from the Inner Harbor.
