Pros and cons On the Dream. Just a 4 night cruise this time.

We usually book 5E, but wanted a little more room inside the cabin. Have one new granddaughter on the next cruise. So, 2 adults and 2 small children in DD's stateroom and DH and I will want to be next door, if possible.

Great rooms no cons you will enjoy the cruise and the ship.

Good size and nice verandah to use.

I agree, that the 4E is the best way to go on Dream and Fantasy. The over-sized veranda is great and Deck 5 is very convenient. If you can get one on the starboard side, then you can watch the fireworks from your own veranda, in your pajamas if you want, without the crowd on the upper decks. We like the forward cabins. I hope this helps.

I could be wrong here, but I believe that the 4E's on the upper decks have room for 5 in them and as a result have more room than the Cat 5's on the inside. The 4E's on Deck 5 were once Cat 5E's and as a result sleep 4 and have the same inside room as a Cat 5 but have the Extended verandah. As a result they have more room outside. I've stayed in a Cat 4E(previously 5E) and can say that the extra room on the verandah is very nice. But don't expect more room inside and out in this category.

So, are 4E cabins no larger than 5Es?

Our previous 5E cabins were on deck 9. I was thinking the 4Es on deck 5 would be larger inside with the extended verandah. I'm I wrong?

Are the fireworks always visible on the starboard side?

As someone previously said, the 4Es on Deck 5 with the oversized verandahs were previously 5Es and the actual stateroom is no larger than a 5E, only the verandah is larger. We were in Stateroom 5158 on the Dream when it was still a 5E. I don't know why that Stateroom is now a 4E (Deluxe FAMILY) when it still only sleeps 3. Yes, it has a large verandah, but the room itself is regular size. I believe DCL's description of these Staterooms is very misleading.

Thanks for the information. Guess we will just stick to the 5E if we can get them. Like the higher deck and the cost is less.

Just curious as to why the higher deck? We are also looking at Cat 4, but not sure which deck. We were thinking maybe 4B or 4C?

In general the perception in cruising is that higher is better but that is not always true. It stems from the old days when cruising was a class system with the least desirable cabins were on lower decks and 1st class passengers on higher decks. This is not the case with modern cruise ships.

We just had Cabin 8642 (4B) on the Fantasy last week and loved the cabin layout. I prefer more forward (just personal preference) but was quite happy with our cabin. We were about 10 cabins forward of the aft elevators.

I also like being on a deck that is in the middle of other passenger decks (above and below).

Thanks. I, too, like being on decks where there are only other cabins above and below. I'm looking at Deck 8 or 9 (but don't see that 9 is worth any extra money).

The deck itself is more if a draw than the actual height of the deck for me. I like Deck 5 when I have the kids because the Kids clubs are there. Deck 5 on the new ships has an added bonus on the verandah cabins of a gargantuan verandah. All the way aft (on the classic ships, any deck) is nice because it's a quick jaunt to the drink station and the elevators are less busy both fore and aft. Like others have said, it's usually better if you have cabins above and below you. Avoid nightclubs.

I loved the 5e we had on fantasy 8684, the loungers really made my day, and we had family breakfast and snacks out there all the time.

, but my DH didn't.

He didn't like the vibration, especially when pulling into port at 5:00am, he didn't like the soot on the deck most of the time and worst of all, he didn't like the smell of cigarettes and fuel.
