Tell me a good place to get cheap textbooks?

Well, only one textbook, to be exact. I'm looking for Human Anatomy and Physiology 7th edition by Marieb. I can't find it anywhere for less than $125, come on! I'm tryin' to save money for disney world here! Anyway, do you have a favorite place to buy textbooks? My college doesn't rent them.

I feel your pain. I have the sixth edition, but that isn't going to help you. For the first time I google searched and bought my books that way. Ended up with the cheapest being spread between Ebay's half.com and amazon.com. Good luck, I know what it is like to spend TOO MUCH on books...

I paid 65.00 for the 6th edition brand new on half.com. The instructor I spoke with said that it was ok to use the 6th edition instead of the 7th but they prefer we use the 7th edition because it has better pictures!

Publishers tend to update text books every two years - whether they need it or not. Check with the Professor (email) regarding the ability to use a 6th ed. (and please call the Professor either "Professor" (if he/she does not have a PhD) or "Dr." (if he/she does have a PhD). This person has knowledge you need, show respect and in return they are more likely to respect you and grant "favors"...

Also, check with other students regarding folks who have already taken the class. Quite often they will sell you their book for 1/2 cost.

My advisor told me about this one, but keep in mind that you do need the ISBN number. Anyway she told me they're pretty cheap and one of my other friends got our $200 accounting book for only $75 on there.

My mom is constantly on the Disboards. Every time a thread like this comes up she ends up emailing me the link.

Last semester I spent $260 on books on ebay and amazon. This semester I sold those books on ebay and earned back $290. I actually made $30 on books that I used. Pretty sweet. I wish I had heard of abebooks earlier though. It could have saved me some serious money. Same goes for bigwords.

The limiting factor is time. Because putting your stuff on ebay takes some serious time.

I've taken all the information from this thread the other dis book thread and compiled into a shorter form for anyone that needs a little book buying guide this semester. I put up on JustAnotherList d0t c0m as long as my site isn't down (if you need a link just PM me). It's been touchy recently. Also, the site is a bit slow for people in the US during peak hours because the server is in the UK (you can be beat 1 GBP/month via paypal).

I had a professor last semester that walked around the room and made sure no one was using a used book. Has anyone had this happen? She belonged in a straight jacket. She was an anti-smoking consultant/psychologist that was actually a chainsmoker. She required that everyone have a new book but never told us why exactly. We got the feeling that she was getting some sort of kickback from a fellow psychologist who had a hand in making the book. There was software that came with the book but she never said that was the reason why we couldn't buy used. After all, 1/2 the kids lost their discs anyways and had to borrow someone elses (there wasn't any sort of activation on there either).

I used Bigwords.com and Half.com to buy my daughters books. At the book store they totaled 560.00. Even with shipping we only spent 260.00. They all came as described and within 10 days. I will always use them for texts!!!I will be selling her books on Half.com at the end of the semester.
I heard a newscast on free texts on a site called Freeloadpress.com. Haven't had time to check it out but it sounds interesting.

Do not buy anything from Phatcampus.com books.

They are a complete and total scam. They take your money, and never deliver the books or send the wrong ones. They won't answer any calls and never respond to customer emails.

If you mail them books for sell, they keep them and never pay you. They really need to be shut down.

Went with ebay instead. It would have only been 2 dollars more to buy my books at the bookstore... if the books they ordered had come in.

My friends and I are all using this site and we have saved tons of money already. And if you do not use this site you will probably spend too much on books.

i always use amazon and buy used. It is so much cheaper than the book store and then at the end of the semester i list them myself on amazon and make the money back. It really is a win win situation.

I almost always use half.com. Just be careful. One time, I had a 60 dollar book never show up, so if you can, try to get some sort of insurance, because I was never able to get my money back.

I use half.com, but only buy from people with good user ratings... Also, if you google the books ISB number, theres usually a button somewhere that says "compare prices" ... if you click on that button, youll have a listing of sellers and their prices of that book so you can choose the best deal
