*** Television, Summer 2009 ***

In terms of Skins is this the second gen group or still first gen?

I don't know much about Skins. I think, though, the answer to your question can be distilled from the episode titles:

Torchwood (BBCA)

BBC America told ComicMix's Mike Raub that Torchwood has been picked up for a fourth season. No word on when it will air or the number of episodes. This follows the highly succesful UK broadcast of Children Of Earth.

It sounds like we will see the end of Saving Grace next summer.

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2009/08/14/saving-grace-canceled-or-will-be-after-summer-2010-run/24770

As the article indicates, the reasons are financial: The financial demands of a top-shelf cast led by an Oscar winner are beyond what is sustainable by a cable television series gaining revenues on just over three million (often commercial-avoiding) viewers.

I view this as both bad news and good news. After all, folks really hate it when a television series doesn't have a suitable ending, and clearly, with the addition of the three episodes, Saving Grace will have a thoughtful, deliberate ending.

Next Week: Premiere of Greek; Finales of Weeds, Rescue Me

So essentially, over the next two weeks, a whole mess of stuff is ending, and not much is starting, or continuing for that matter. Our DVR is set-up to record a total of 36 hours during that period. Adequate, for sure, but by comparison, during a typical two week period during the fall season, our DVR will record a total of 68 hours.

(This week, and perhaps next week as well, I'm posting this weekly update of premieres, specials and finales in both the Summer and Fall threads.)

Mad Men has been renewed for a fourth season.

I am pretty sure it was already renewed for next year.

i dont know whether or not this was asked but is DEFYING GRAVITY on the fall list or is it over soon? i really enjoy it,and dont see it on your list.

Defying Gravity is a summer series. 13 episodes were made. #7 and #8 will be broadcast next Sunday and the Sunday after. (This Sunday's episode will be preempted in Boston and perhaps other series, due to the Jerry Lewis telethon. Here in Boston, they promise to broadcast it Wednesday morning 3:05 AM instead, but I won't hold my breath; and I'll be doubly-shocked if they broadcast then in HD.)

There are no plans to broadcast the remaining five episodes. Presumably, they'll find their way into ABC's spring schedule, if Defying Gravity is greenlighted for another season (which is doubtful -- it is really expensive and not enough people are watching it).

The next two weeks include a lot of premieres on CW, and some on Fox. Most major network premieres are still three weeks away.
