Telephone charges in room?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a calling card, and I can't remember if you're charged hotel charges for using one from your resort room. Does anyone know the hotel charges for local and toll-free calls?

Get a calling card for sure. The long distance charges from the hotel room are astronomical. I think they will still charge you a .25 charge per call to dial the 800 number, but that is way better than the long distance fees. We even sometimes called from the payphones around in the parks with our calling card and then we avoided the fees all together. The only exception are the DVC resorts because members get local calls for free at those.

The charge to use the phone for local calls and 800 #s is 75 cents per call!!!

I don't think DVC has it free anymore either. I think they're charge is 35 cents per call.

AHHHHHHH! Now that you mention it is .75 !! I remember! I have no idea why I thought it was .25. My bad! We stayed DVC in December and all of our calls (local/tollfree) were free. That might have changed since, but that was how it was in Dec 2002.

Sams Club has very good prices on the phone cards, just got ours for our trip coming up.

I purchased 650 minutes for around $21.00.

Yep, I got one at Costco for 676 min for $19.99.

I use them at home now too because they are rechargable and are 2.9 cents a minute, way cheaper than all of the long distance companies!

No, there is not.

Also, another tip, if you do need to make a local call, (such as Mears, or the airline) dial "0" from your room phone, and have the operator make the call for you. You avoid the 75 cent charge to your room.
