I have decided to spend some money on teeth whitening and want to have custom trays made. The dentist charges about $300 for trays and gels. I see several online companies that send you the impression materials and then you return them and their lab makes your custom trays. Plus you get the gels. I am wondering if anyone has used one of these companies and cut out the middle man (dentist). If so were you happy with the results or not? Sure would like to save some money on this if I can find a reputable company to do it with. Thanks

My dentist was running a special a couple of months ago...custom trays + 1 box of bleach for $99. I think it's called whitebrite? Anyway, it's possible some of your local dentists may run the same type of special?

I have several dental hygenist friends who've mentioned those impressions don't always turn out as planned. In fact, one friend mentioned just last week they had to redo 3 or 4 of them. If you end up doing it yourself, just follow the directions to a T! :thumbsup2

I have one of the trays from the dentist, but you could do it your self by going to walmart and get one of the trays there for 20.00. You heat it up and it molds to your teeth. After that, just order the gel from your dentist. If I had it to do over, that's what I would do. :)

Have you tried Crest Whitestrips? I called two different dentists a few years ago to get a quote for how much it would cost to whiten. Both told me they just recommend using Crest Whitestrips as the results are about the same and far less expensive. I used Crest Whitestrips and had fantastic results (although I did notice it makes my teeth a little more sensitive).

I have used both & the bleach from the dentist must be quite a bit stronger. I saw big results in much less time using the bleach trays/bleach. The dentist says you only have to do a 2-week treatment every 6 mos, but I can already see my teeth yellowing. (I finished bleach trays/bleach 2 mos ago.) I do drink a couple of cups of coffee per day, so I'm sure that's why. Although I try to only drink it at home so I can brush immediately afterwards. :confused3

The bleaching at a dental office is much stronger than WhiteStrips and other over the counter whitening. The trays from Walmart would not be the same tight fit either, as the ones in the dental office. We use Opalescence and it works great and a lot of patients who have successful results have tried the Crest things as well.

I just spoke with my dental office. They use the day white 38% or 28% if you are sensitive. They are going to see what deal they can cut if both my husband and I do it. Plus they make the molds in 24 hours. I think since nobody who made their own trays said it was awesome I will go with a professional. Let's make a deal and hope it's a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's wonderful! They may even prescribe a "sensitive teeth" toothpaste for you to pick up at your pharmacy. I recommend this! :teeth:

OH, one more thing....I guess I misunderstood the directions the first time I bleached my teeth. I squirted the bleach at the bottom of the tray (which is actually the tip of your teeth.) This made my teeth SUPER sensitive! I continued to do this for about a week. :scared: Just apply the bleach where the FRONT of the tooth will go. (Yes, I know...DUMB mistake!) :rolleyes1

i did it through my dentist...was $400.00 - did it for my 40th b-day! it was "nite white" i think! I would sleep w/it loved it did it for less then 1 week..its almost two years and i think i "refreshed" my teeth 1 day! people always comment how nice my teeth look! no regrets!

If possible, ask for Professional Crest Whitestrips after your cleaning... you can only buy them from your dentist's office.

They are stronger than the Whitestrips from the store/drugstore. I saw a big difference in my teeth after 1/3 of the box, and my teeth was just slightly suffering from the can of soda I drink once a day. Worth it!

Wow! Were your teeth very sensitive after such extreme bleaching? Did it not gag you at night? I would be scared that I'd swallow the tray/s!

No, they were not very sensitive after 2 days i switched off between doing the top and bottom when they did become a little sensitive...you definitly cannot swallow the tray and you don't gag from it...as i can gag easily!

Thanks! I may have to try that. I'm sitting here watching my Tivo'd American Idol & Paula Abdul's teeth are SO doggone white! I know they're probably those expensive veneers, but I would love for my teeth to be that white. How would you compare the whiteness of your teeth to the whiteness of hers??? (I know that's a silly question, but I'm just very curious b/c of the cost!) :rolleyes1
