Teenage Mutant Backseat Dancers - 11/18 UPDATE! P25 - Leaving on a jet plane

Nova Scotia has always been one of those places I thought I'd get to one day, but since it hasn't happened yet I'm glad to get a small glimpse of it from you.

Glad I could show you a bit (granted, a small bit) of it.

I've always loved anything having to do with the sea--the history, especially. I'm one of, oh, I don't know, at least 4 people in the world who has Moby Dick on my list of favorite books!

Call me.... pkondz. I'm ashamed to admit that it's one of the few classics that either I haven't read...
or it's been such a long time that I don't remember reading it.
Probably the former.

Something I really should rectify, no?

I hadn't been anywhere near the ocean in far too long but was able to swing a 4 day trip to Cape Cod back in May. It was windy and chilly (sound familiar?)

Oh, yes. I didn't mention it, but Peggy's Cove was very windy.
I asked a local if it was always like this. Her answer?
"Oh, no. Not always. Well, usually, yes."

I'd love to see Cape Cod.

but we had a wonderful time anyway, especially the day we went whale watching. No white ones spotted, but we saw many humpback, Minke and fin whales, and it was totally worth it even though we just about froze despite the bright sunshine!

I bet it was worth it! That would be awesome.
Where I used to live, we'd get thousands of whales just off shore on any given day in the summer.
Belugas mind you, not anywhere near as large as a Fin!
That must have been something! How close did you get?

So glad you decided to keep writing! Now I'm wondering what's next. Ponzi goes to Tim Hortons?? Just speculating about what kind of donut you would eventually choose would probably add a good 5-6 pages to your report!! :thumbsup2

:lmao:

So its pretty and all, but how COLD is it there now?

Sorry, tired tonight, still love you report!

You can't ever trust Bettys or Heidis or any of that ilk. They take evil pleasure in misguiding you. EVIL, I say!

Actually, it's a lot warmer there than it is here right now!
There it's 50F/10C here it's 25F/-5C.

When we were there it was around 55F or so that day.
A bit cooler the next.

And I completely agree with you about Betty.
I didn't post it, but when I was in Lunenburg, after I left the golf course,
I wanted to get to the waterfront.
Betty told me to turn left at an intersection.
So I did.
Then turned around since after a block, it turned into a one-way.
In the opposite direction.

ok so wdw is a bit cooler than we are out here 66f. it was the same when we went o DCA with Scarlett (aka cutest grandbaby ever... along with all of the rest of the dis grandkids that is)

Things I think:
I think it would be amazing to go to the great white north and see some of these places in person.
I think we all want to see what kind of doughnuts Tim Horton's has (we don't have those out here. nor do we have dunkin doughnuts. heck we don't really have any krispy creames out here. (there might be one or two in hollyweird or la) but stay away from the milk. or at least check the date on it;)
I think you have great resolve giving up French fries for this long.
I think we are all glad you are still willing to entertain us.
I think we are all happy here at camp whitehead as lance has made a milestone 1 year with no unplanned er trips or trips to urgent care:yay: yeah it's off topic but it is huge to us
I think that when a business is not open for business it should close up the fence or put a sign up just sayin
I think I might swipe that lighthouse pic for a wallpaper.hehehe

I finally made it back! Sorry I abandoned you for awhile, took a bit getting used to empty nest syndrome...:(

The trip sounded awesome. Loved hearing about the falls, shocked about Maid of the Mist. That one was on my bucket list - guess I need to change the name of the boat. I need to get my passport renewed, and then haul DH up there. Probably should check with DS - I don't know if he will have time after this summer, but he might get a kick out of it, since he and Elle are about the same age. But he gets the sofa bed, DH and I get the regular bed...his back can take it better than mine can :headache:!

Mall of America - if my DS was late, I would be around the same shape. He is always carrying his cell phone, but if he actually hears it in his pocket, that is another thing. I go through the same thing when I can't get a hold of him for the entire day at college...:worried:

Thanks for giving me some tips for our trip! I have both your reports marked, and need to add notes to my trip files. They take every bit as much planning as WDW :surfweb:.

Speaking of which, it isn't in our plans either. Between the Grand Canyon and tuition and Germany after graduation, it is a ways off right now. We are planning a quick trip to Busch Gardens Williamsburg to get a ride fix, but your Cedar Point description put a gleam in my eye! I am totally getting back into roller coasters, and those sound awesome. Only bummer is the price of the Fast Pass they have...that is more than it costs to get into the park!! That is crazy!! Between that and the ticket, it is more than a day at WDW :scared1: . But it is probably always busy, you almost have to have that to ride any rides in a reasonable amount of time. Good for Elle for getting on, and then falling in love with them! I did that with the DD of my DF - once I got her on ToT and the Hulk, she never looked back! I don't know if DF likes that idea or not...

If you ever go back, there are two Hampton Inns in Sandusky that aren't too far away from the park. We stay there sometimes on our midwest jaunts :drive:; they are a nice, inexpensive place to stay, but I don't think they have suites.

So not sure what I will do now, finally back on the DIS but no upcoming long trip reports from you or Nebo! Guess I will need to read about people complaining about FP+. Nebo, hope your hand heals quickly and you can get back on the computer. You know, you can type one handed on a tablet...I can't use both hands on it no way. But it does get rather fatiguing, peck-peck-peck.

Oh well, back to work I guess...but will be following along again! :goodvibes

Sounds like a wonderful day of touring. That town was just beautiful -- love the colorful buildings. And that ladies' room sign - too funny! Thanks, though -- now I want some chowder! I love the stuff.

Moby Dick is one of those books I always hesitate to suggest to anyone I don't know really well. It's old, it's long-winded and poetic, but the story is amazing. I actually had to take a college course that focused on it (and War and Peace) to force myself to read it. I thought I'd like War and Peace more, but was very surprised that I preferred Moby. If you should ever decide to read it, having an interest in every aspect of the 19th whaling trade would probably help!

I bet it was worth it! That would be awesome.
Where I used to live, we'd get thousands of whales just off shore on any given day in the summer.
Belugas mind you, not anywhere near as large as a Fin!

The whales were obviously in the mood to people-watch that day. At times they surrounded the boat, and even dived under it. I couldn't believe how close they came, and how unafraid they were. I could tell how special our watch was just by listening to the excitement in the voice of the naturalist on the boat--when she started squealing just like I was I knew this was not something you can see every day! She had told us that we would see lots of tail fins when the whales dived, but that we should not expect to see one breach (come completely out of the water) because that's actually a rare behavior. Because it was such a magical day, of course one of the juvenile humpbacks breached just as we were about to head back to shore and just as the SD card on my camera filled up. So I don't have a picture of it, but it's pretty firmly saved in my memory! It was one of the most spectacular days of my life. :cloud9:

:lmao:[/QUOTE]

Whoops! Looks like I'm falling behind on my callouts... but I have excellent reasons which I'll discuss later.

Things I think:

I love your "things I thinks"

I think it would be amazing to go to the great white north and see some of these places in person.

I won't lie. The winters are loooooong. Think snow from early September to June.
But.....

When it starts to melt, until it's firmly back on the ground?
That period from June to October/early November?

Pure. Magic.

I won't bore you with details.... I know I'd go on far too long.

I think we all want to see what kind of doughnuts Tim Horton's has (we don't have those out here. nor do we have dunkin doughnuts. heck we don't really have any krispy creames out here. (there might be one or two in hollyweird or la) but stay away from the milk. or at least check the date on it;)

No more milk for me... well, okay I'll still have it... but I'm checking the darn date!
Funny thing, I just had a Timmy's doughnut tonight.
Ruby said she wanted one, so I got some for all of us.

Yummm....

I think you have great resolve giving up French fries for this long.

I think so too.

Some might not call it resolve.
Some might call it the dumbest thing I've ever agreed to.

:rolleyes1

I think we are all glad you are still willing to entertain us.

Thanks! Nice of you to say.

I think we are all happy here at camp whitehead as lance has made a milestone 1 year with no unplanned er trips or trips to urgent care:yay: yeah it's off topic but it is huge to us

:cheer2:

This TR is designed to allow people to go off topic.

I think that when a business is not open for business it should close up the fence or put a sign up just sayin

Yeah! Why should I feel stupid? Close the darn gate!

I think I might swipe that lighthouse pic for a wallpaper.hehehe

And that, is a pretty darned nice compliment!

I finally made it back! Sorry I abandoned you for awhile, took a bit getting used to empty nest syndrome...:(

Awww.... but good that you came back.
We're all like family here.

I need to squabble with my siblings more...

The trip sounded awesome. Loved hearing about the falls, shocked about Maid of the Mist. That one was on my bucket list - guess I need to change the name of the boat.

Well, you can still do Maid of the Mist... just from the US side, though.

I need to get my passport renewed, and then haul DH up there. Probably should check with DS - I don't know if he will have time after this summer, but he might get a kick out of it, since he and Elle are about the same age.

The Falls are pretty impressive, regardless of age, I think.
Turn him loose on Clifton St. and he'll have a ball.

But he gets the sofa bed, DH and I get the regular bed...his back can take it better than mine can :headache:!

Believe me, if it had just been myself and Elle, she'd have the sofa bed!

Mall of America - if my DS was late, I would be around the same shape. He is always carrying his cell phone, but if he actually hears it in his pocket, that is another thing. I go through the same thing when I can't get a hold of him for the entire day at college...:worried:

Yeah. I don't think I was saying anything that any parent hasn't experienced at some point.

Thanks for giving me some tips for our trip! I have both your reports marked, and need to add notes to my trip files. They take every bit as much planning as WDW :surfweb:.

You're welcome! Glad I could help. :)

I don't know if DF likes that idea or not...

Well, you might not need the Fast Pass.
We had to do it since we were so short on time.
If you have two days (or more) like Carrie and others mentioned, you might not need it.

But I'm far from an expert, here.

If you ever go back, there are two Hampton Inns in Sandusky that aren't too far away from the park. We stay there sometimes on our midwest jaunts :drive:; they are a nice, inexpensive place to stay, but I don't think they have suites.

Okay, I'll keep that in my pocket for future reference.

So not sure what I will do now, finally back on the DIS but no upcoming long trip reports from you or Nebo! Guess I will need to read about people complaining about FP+.

Wellll......
Stay tuned..........

Sounds like a wonderful day of touring. That town was just beautiful -- love the colorful buildings. And that ladies' room sign - too funny! Thanks, though -- now I want some chowder! I love the stuff.

Both Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg were very pretty.
Peggy's Cove is much smaller though.

I want more chowder, too!

Hmmm.... I tried War and Peace once, but got so bored that I gave it up.
But I'm still going to give Moby Dick a try... after I finish the book I'm currently reading.

Wow! That is so cool! Thanks for sharing that.
Having them go under the boat, though... did a Fin do that? That would have been amazing.

Odd, for some reason, these two fell off my multi-quote list.

Hey, I've got you beat in temp today...its 1F or -17C!

We're supposed to have a low of -16C tonight... but frankly...
I'm just not ready for cold quite yet.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the cold temps will stay away.
Like, maybe in Colorado, or something...

ok so wdw is a bit cooler than we are out here 66f. it was the same when we went o DCA with Scarlett (aka cutest grandbaby ever... along with all of the rest of the dis grandkids that is)

66F..... Oh, how I'd love to see 66F again.
Sigh. Not before May probably.

Unless........

Couple of updates that might be of interest...

A couple of days ago, I called Nebo to see how he was doing.
He told me that his surgery was about three hours long and his wrist was all wrapped up.
The doctor didn't want him breaking it again, he figured.
He was going (the next day or later that day) to two appointments,
one with the surgeon and one for physio.
At two different hospitals.

As we were chatting, he mentioned that he was in the bathroom so as not to disturb Smidgy.
I thought maybe Smidgy would think he was carrying on an illicit telephone romance with some bimbo.
I needn't have worried.

We were chatting and Nebo mentions that Mike and Heather (Thumpers) should be back from Cancun by now.
I mentioned that I believed they were, since Thumpy had posted a quick blurb on this TR.
Nebo then asked if I'd heard if Heather was okay.
No, I replied, Mike didn't mention Heather.
Oh, he says, Smidgy heard something about her.

All of a sudden there's a banging sound.
It's Smidgy banging on the bathroom door.
"She swallowed some sea water and got sick!" Smidgy calls out.

I couldn't help it.
I burst out laughing.
Here's Nebo hiding in the bathroom so he won't disturb Smidgy.
Here's me worrying about Smidgy worrying.
And here's Smidgy, as soon she hears her name, her radar swings into action and she comes to the rescue.

:lmao:

Boys.
We're so silly.

In other news, I don't know if anyone's interested in this or not.
But I'm probably (still planning, but close now) going to Disney World in February.
It'll be a solo trip of just a few days (less than a week).

But.
Here's where I need some help.
I've been out of the loop for too long, so I need to do some research.
But time is of the essence if I wanna book this thing.

I'm looking to go Feb 8-13.
Any reason why I shouldn't go then and put it off?
I'd like to go in winter and I have to keep the costs as low as possible.
I do know that Journey of the Little Mermaid will be closed during that time.

Thoughts?

Yay a trip! You are missing President's Day weekend so you should be in good shape. Just make sure you bring layers...it can be hot, warm, or cold. :)

Jill in CO

TinkYellow and I will be down 1/31 - 2/3 for her college program kick off. We plan to drive down in one day. We won't be doing any parks but plan to take the Buses, Boats and Monorail challenge. Should be fun, assuming the weather will let us leave Indiana.

Take a seven layer dinner. Check.
Will there not be any food available during that time?

MEN!!!! I didn't say she "swallowed" sea water. somehow she got it in her lungs.. maybe inhaled it? and from that she got pneumonia. heather wil come and correct us! lol!

so we have to see the dr. once a week for a month and the hand therapist twice a week for about 3 months.. ....sigh.... but he is faithfully doing his exercises.

he has a hole in the nails of his thumb and index finger, with a string haning out of each of them.. and a rubber band on the end of each of the strings. and 2 safety pins on the velcro straps which are holding the splint on. and he had to hook the rubberband onto the safety pin and do do a few "reps".. ony move the digit about 3-5 millilitres, though.

I cracked up. all this technology, and he has string, rubber bands and safety pins.. it looks like something McGuyver would throw together!:lmao:
apparently they don't know nebo.. anyone remember the tying the shoes to the belt incident in a disney resort bathroom?:rotfl2:.. I can't wait to see what he does with this contraption!!!

so back to the TR, I just LOVED the pictures of Nova Scotia! what neat looking fishing villages. the reason they build cities like Chicago in the Midwest is because the landscape is SO BORING!!!! corn. some fields. um, that's it. oh we have the Fox river near us.

I was cracking up about the disembodied head!!!! that was HILARIOUS!!!:lmao:

we borrowed a GPS from a frined .. "Jack" was a terd. Igot mad at him.. Nebo thought it was hilarious.. that I felt replaced, since I am the "navigator" I have a roadatlas with notes on every state and city, when to get left or right, for which exit. when to stay left or right for each "split". and sure enoug, in Indianapolis "jack" was WRONG!!! HA! take that, Jack! (jack wanted us to take the bypass and we didn't. so when we pased the exit for the bypass he told us to get right.. I told nebo, 'NO we stay left!! I know!!" sure enough,. getting right was to get on the exit to take us to the bypass. Jack was trying to get us to get back to his plan.... I agree with Marita.. EVIL!!!!!
ps ! Hi worfie! nice to see you somewhere else besides the GH thread!!

ok folks get ready for a shortage of zebra domes in feb. there will be a guy there with a huge suitcase buying them all up. can't wait to see the look on the customs folks, anything to declare?mmmmzzzeebbbrraaa dooommmeessss. are you constipated? no just in a zebra dome zone

on the all about me front (lol) check out the new avatar. cutest little disser with her friend Minnie. we took this at the chase cardholder meet and greet last Tuesday and I think this is in the top ten favorite pics of lil missy

Hey! Look at me! New ticker!
But it wasn't easy...

Things not to do.
When you get money for Christmas or Birthdays, you don't use it to buy groceries.
You just don't.
It's money you didn't have and usually, the gifters want the giftee to spend it.
Preferably on something they want versus something they need.

Am I right?
Of course I am.

So with that in mind, I decided to take some cash that was laying around
collecting dust and see if I could put it to good use.

i.e. A trip to Disney.
I can only do this if I can keep it within a tight budget.
I have enough airmiles for Disney tickets and airfare...
But there's the problem. It's not easy to get tickets to MCO with airmiles.

So I looked into it.
Yup. Looks like I can do it, yay!

So I started checking into when I could go.
By the time I figured out when I could go, some of the available flights were already gone,
or would cost more points than I could afford.

I did some more research and decided on a date.
I did this on Saturday.
Today's Sunday.
I'm at work, is there leave available?
Yes!!
Time to book the flight!
I knew I had two options; both involved leaving on February 8th.
Option 1: Return late on the 12th. Saves me a night's stay, but cuts the day short.
Option 2: Return early on the 13th. I gain a full day, but the flight leaves at 7am. :crazy2:

I couldn't remember (from the day before :sad2: probably too excited) what time
the flight left in the afternoon on the 12th.
So I checked in with airmiles... and it was already unavailable!!! :scared:

Oh, no. Oh no, oh no, ohno, ohno, ohnohnohnohnohnononononono!!!!

Quickly check to see if the 13th is still available???
It is?

DON'T THINK! JUST BOOK IT! GO GO GO GO!!!!!

Got it.

Wasn't worried a bit.

What? :confused3

Uh, oh.

I didn't say she "swallowed" sea water. somehow she got it in her lungs.. maybe inhaled it? and from that she got pneumonia.

Yes ma'am. Sorry, ma'am. I'll try better next time, ma'am.
But you know I'm a male of the species, so I suppose you know not to expect much.

so we have to see the dr. once a week for a month and the hand therapist twice a week for about 3 months.. ....sigh.... but he is faithfully doing his exercises.

Good. Kick his butt if he doesn't.

Holes in his nails with strings hanging out???

:faint:

OMG! I never thought of that.

I don't know whether to :lmao: or :scared:

so back to the TR, I just LOVED the pictures of Nova Scotia! what neat looking fishing villages.

Thanks! It really was beautiful there.

the reason they build cities like Chicago in the Midwest is because the landscape is SO BORING!!!! corn. some fields. um, that's it. oh we have the Fox river near us.

I was cracking up about the disembodied head!!!! that was HILARIOUS!!!:lmao:

Funny thing is, I probably would have taken it out in photoshop if I'd noticed it before uploading it.
But once it was uploaded, I couldn't see anything but that head!

I think that GPS are built by people who hate us.
"First we get them all dependent on them... then we direct them all to drive off cliffs!!!"

It could happen.

I might pop over to mara for some.
Nah. Too much trouble.

Yeah, right!!!
