Might as well ask this here as anywhere else... This board seems to be fully of technically competent people.

Is WDW hooked to a wireless network? My son's teacher is getting him a wireless computer for use in everyday communication etc... it will also be able to access the internet via 802.11B Wireless Network. (The teacher is expected daily e-mails from our trip next spring.)

I understand Toronto is totally set up - as is Akron University here. What about WDW? Who would I ask?

Thanks for the help.

I would be surprised to find that your son can access a wireless internet connection at WDW for two reasons - 1) they want people to spend time in the parks, spending money, not working on laptops; and 2) I think it would be a BIG security issue to allow open wireless internet access to people in the parks.

If WDW or anyplace else is concerned about security they won't even have a wireless network. Those things are next to impossible to secure. I doubt the hotels have wireless, the parks might but do you really want to carry the laptop into the parks?

No, there is no wireless access anywhere.

Wireless has a ways to go before it can compete with a wired network, its not even close in speed and they are not real reliable.

It is convenient, but I don't see it as practical yet. There are a few schools with decent set ups, but way more often than not, I hear complaints.

I have wireless in my house so I can carry my laptop around more easily and still do work and be connected, but the connection speeds are not good compared to wired.

If I want to do anykind of streaming thing like the wonderful interview Pete did with the Y&BC manager on the opening of BCV I have to hook up the network cable.

I wish they had wireless or even highspeed at WDW. It would let me spend more time in the parks as I would get my work done quicker. ;)

My son has a backpack computer - XyberKids by Xybernaut. His speech program is loaded into it. The screen attaches to his wheelchair tray along with some switches to activate the right board. The unit is actually in a backpack. The whole unit is pretty small. We're excited because next year he's going to use it to say HI to Mickey for the first time ever.

So - yeah for those purposes, the pc comes in with us. I will take my work PC along for use in the room and to email the teacher to tell her about our successes!!

Thanks again everyone... but considering security - I can access the web via my cell phone and palm pilot.. i guess I don't need no stinkin' wireless!! (hee hee..) But Mike, wouldn't it be cool to double task? Waiting in line at Dumbo and answering emails, creating and sending files? Sounds effecient, but very scary!!!
