Team Renfroe trip report with TONS of pics & reviews

I love Prime Rib and Kona's looks excellent! popcorn:: And like your DS, that Kona Cone would have been my favorite dessert, too! ::yes:: Thanks for the great review.

Thanks, Rachel! I do love England, but I prefer the warmer climates for sure.

Here ya go.... (that was me blowing some sunshine your way!)

Thanks Alan, and guess what when I woke up this morning the sun was shining::yes:: :thumbsup2 :beach:

50's prime time sounded like a lot of fun, we wont be doing it this trip but its something i hope to do in the future and your report confirmed i!!

We went to disney quest once and were really unimpressed im sure parents drop there teenagers off there whilst they go shopping!

wow those wings and the steak at Konas are making my mouth water, if the food tasted as good as it looked no wonder it was your favourite 1ts meal!!

Alan, So glad you enjoyed your dinner at the Kona Cafe. We LOVE it there. I always order the beef teriyaki like your wife. It seems that they keep changing their bread. A few years back it was a focaccia with an olive oil dipping sauce. Last May it was something different than your picture--although your bread looks divine. One place I'd recommend trying on your next trip would be Spoodles on the Boardwalk for breakfast. They have a dish there called the Italian which I want to call kind of a breakfast bowl with egg, sausage and so on that my DH and his best friend both thought was fantastic. I would say that Spoodles rivals Kona on food quality, taste and service. (They also let me order Mickey waffles with extra strawberries :)

Omg those wings at Kona look wonderful!!! I already told DH that we have to order those!!! I'm thinking I'm getting the teriyaki steak and I'll have DH get the Prime Rib so I can taste both of them!! :thumbsup2

Alan I can't believe your report is almost done. I love your writing (literature/language arts teacher here) and you have "the gift." I hope you begin a PTR (yes this stands for pre-trip report). Surely you will begin planning your next Disney vacation the moment you finish this trip report......we all do. We have Kona on our list this year, had it on the list last year but chickened out (pun intended). I have to try the prime rib, it looks divine.

Oh Alan, you got me dribbling+slobbering all over my keyboard again-with the look of your dish-the prime rib+oh boy them Kona Cones your children had looked really great-my girls would love them.
You mentioned going back to WDW in May-shame-as we go on April 1st+it would have been a pleasure to have met up briefly with you+your family for some fish+chips in the Rose&Crown :thumbsup2 .x.

Thanks so much, again, for the AMAZING TR. All of us are so sad that it is over and looking forward to your next one!

I am so glad to hear this about Kona. My DS(12) spends a lot of time on the dis and he talked me into changing one of our dinner ressie's for Kona- I cannot wait. shhhh! Don't tell anyone but it was actually our LeCellier ressie that we switched. We love LeCellier and will go again on another trip, but that was the only one that we were all willing to give up. The cool thing is that we were able to give our ressies to another diser who could not get ressies to LeCellier for the past 2 trips.:goodvibes

Oh, Alan, how wonderful it has been to spend my mornings with you and your charming family! I've really enjoyed following you every day and hate to see it coming to an end. You've been so warm, entertaining and informative. Definitely the best trip report I've read on these boards. I thank you and wish you and yours all the best.

I couldn't have put it better myself, so I won't bother to try......
:goodvibes to you Alan.
I will miss you all :surfweb:

I couldn't agree more. You have brightened my days when I've come home from visiting my dad at the hospital and made me dream of our trip to the CSR in two months. The best trip report I've ever read. I don't think I can even do one now...it would be like a kindergartener writing against a professor!

wow does that food look good!!
can't believe your trip is almost over though! :( What am I going to do with my free time now!?!

Kona ROCKS!!! It was one of our favorites too! The beef terriyaki is ALWAYS my choice, it is soooooo good! That macadamia nut butter is TO DIE for isn't it! I often wondered how a poor kid could sit there and watch their parents eat that fun Kona cone, seems cruel to me that it isn't an option on the kids menu. I did like you and let my kids eat off mine too!:goodvibes

Oh no! Please say it isn't so. Our last meal with you at Disney for this trip. I am so sad to see it over.

:rotfl2: The last supper...at least for now! Thanks for reading - I've had a lot of fun putting the trip report together.

Hi Alan! Great trip report so far! Hate to see it end though.

We are planning a quick trip to Orlando with my husband for business, and I'm trying to decide on the one Disney restaurant we'll go to--been tossing around Whispering Canyon and Chef Mickey's...never even thought about Kona....

Love the fireworks idea...

We did that one year...went to the Poly (not to eat though) to watch the Electrical Water Parade and the fireworks.

It was heaven sitting on that beach and watching the castle...

Thanks for the idea! Now, I'm off to check out prices!

Solid idea, DCanoli! I vote for Kona!

Oh wow! Konas is a must do on my list of places to eat. The menu sounds so wonderful! The prime rib was massive!! I am a teriyaki person though, so I know what I would get for sure!! Basically your wifes meal but skip desert as I don't think I could even finish dinner...lol
Thanks for your wonderful report! I can't wait until you go back so we can read another trip report!!
It was so much fun to see the kids meals also. There isn't a great selection of kids meals at counter service places, so in December it is DxDDP all the way!! I want my grandsons to have more than nuggets and they wont eat burgers yet.
Thank you for sharing all of your memories with us and please thank your family also as it was so much fun to see you all enjoying yourselves!!!
Oh and by the way...when are you starting a pre-trip report for your next trip? Let us know on this thread if you start one ok!!

Thanks VERY much, SunnieRN!

Yes, that prime rib was HUGE! Of course, the teriyaki beef was delicious also.
I know what you mean about skipping dessert. I was absolutely full and had no room for dessert!

Thanks for your support on this trip report! I will definitely let everyone know when we begin a pre-trip report. I wish there were boards like this one for other things in life! We are going to Panama City Beach, FL next month and it would be great if there was a board to discuss that area!

Is that cotton candy under the bottom of that Kona Kone?

Oh Yes it is!! It's awesome!

I love Prime Rib and Kona's looks excellent! popcorn:: And like your DS, that Kona Cone would have been my favorite dessert, too! ::yes:: Thanks for the great review.

I don't have prime rib that often, but this was definitely the best I've ever had. Kona will definitely be on our list for our next trip. That Kona Cone is too cool!

Thanks Alan, and guess what when I woke up this morning the sun was shining::yes:: :thumbsup2 :beach:

:cool1: You are welcome...glad I could help!! That's awesome! Next time you need a sunny day, just holla! :cool1:

Glad to know I'm not the only one that was disappointed in DisneyQuest. The concept is great, but it isn't policed well...and therefore doesn't have that Disney feel....more like mob rules!

Those wings at the Kona Cafe were like none I have ever had. That mustard drizzle was soooo good with the sweetness of the chicken! Knowing that I had a big prime rib coming, I saved most of my wings and had them put in a to-go box. We took them home with us and ate them the next day! It was a nice way of bringing a little bit of Disney World back home with us.

Kona looked wonderful :thumbsup2 , and I have to agree with everyone else those chicken wings looked delish....;) , and I'd definately have to order 3 of those desserts that your DS & DD had, one for each of my DD's and the other one for me :bitelip: , just gotta love that sweet tooth ;) . I have thoroughly loved reading your trip report it's been great ::yes:: , thankyou sooo much for sharing with us :goodvibes

Hey, glad to hear that you love Kona as well! That beef teriyaki is great, isn't it? That is interesting about the bread....I hope they don't change it anymore, because this bread was WONDERFUL! :thumbsup2

We thought about going to Spoodles on this trip because I wanted to go over to the Boardwalk. We had some friends who were staying at the Boardwalk and they really enjoyed breakfast at Spoodles. That will be on our next trip itinerary!

My gosh! I was wondering the very same thing!!!

Wow! What a dessert! My kids would LOVE that (if it really is cotton candy)!!

Oh yeah....it's REAL cotton candy! How can you beat a huge ice cream in a cone surrounded by cotton candy? Pure genious sugar bliss! :worship:

Omg those wings at Kona look wonderful!!! I already told DH that we have to order those!!! I'm thinking I'm getting the teriyaki steak and I'll have DH get the Prime Rib so I can taste both of them!! :thumbsup2

I know it sounds weird, but even the pictures of the wings doesn't do them justice. They were just wonderful. Sounds like you've got a solid plan on ordering at Kona!

Wow! Thank you VERY much for your kind words! I have always considered writing a novel. I write songs and I used to write for a national magazine for awhile. I've always enjoyed writing, and English was always my favorite school subject. Thanks for the great compliment!

You CHICKENED out!! Nice! Don't FOWL up on your next trip by not going!

Oh Alan, you got me dribbling+slobbering all over my keyboard again-with the look of your dish-the prime rib+oh boy them Kona Cones your children had looked really great-my girls would love them.

Hi, x! Glad I could get you all worked up with the Kona photos! Those were some of our best pictures because the food was just great!

My job gets really busy in March and April, so we will have to wait until May to go. Sorry we will miss being there when you and your family are there! I would've enjoyed having some fish and chips with one of my British buddies from the DISboards! I will definitely have to drink a Bass or Guiness at the Rose & Crown in your honor!

Thanks so much, again, for the AMAZING TR. All of us are so sad that it is over and looking forward to your next one!

Thank you very much for your compliments! It has been a pleasure putting this trip report together, mostly because of the positive feedback we've gotten from readers like you!

We loved Le Cellier, but I personally liked Kona a little better. It is noisy....like eating at an airport restaurant! But to me that was part of the appeal. The food alone speaks for itself. Tell DS12 he made a good move! MY DS11 MUCH preferred Kona to Le Cellier.

Barb, you're going to make me sad! It has been so much fun reliving our trip and sharing with others on these boards. Thanks very much for making my day with your kind comments!

I couldn't have put it better myself, so I won't bother to try......
:goodvibes to you Alan.
I will miss you all :surfweb:

aww...you guys! :goodvibes Thanks for the good vibes...and right back atcha!

I am in awe of the kindness of the readers on this board. May God bless you for visiting with your dad, and I hope you have an incredible trip to CSR! You MUST do a trip report to repay me for mine!!! I'll be looking for it!! :cool1:

wow does that food look good!!
can't believe your trip is almost over though! :( What am I going to do with my free time now!?!

LOL!! I don't know what to do with my free time either!! Guess I'll get back to real life! Thanks for hanging with the Renfroes!

Wasn't that butter awesome? I should call and see if they would ship me a pound or two of it!!! :rotfl: Although it probably wouldn't be quite as good on plain white toast!

You are SO right about the Kona Cone being on the adult menu, but not the kid's menu. Of course I had to give mine to DD....I think she would have fought me for it if I didn't!

Hi Karen! Thank you SO much for your kind comments and I'm glad you've enjoyed the trip report! Last installment is on the way.

After a wonderful meal at Kona, it was time to say goodbye to Disney World! Both of our children walked across the way to the gift shop, and we bought them picture albums so they could make prints from our trip and take them to school to show their friends!

We made a quick stop to fill up on gas at the Hess station just outside the Polynesian, near the Shades of Green Resort.

A sad sight....Disney World in our rear view mirror!

We drove north on I-75 and made it as far as Tifton, Georgia before deciding to stop for the night.

We got up early the next morning and drove the rest of the way home.

I've always wanted to take the entire Griswold...er...Renfroe family to WDW, but it never seemed to be the right time. Now that we've been, we have all decided that we want to come back...and soon! After some discussion, we are now making preliminary plans to make another trip in May, 2009.

Going to Disney World, staying at Coronado Springs, and being on the Deluxe Dining Plan was every bit as great as we had dreamed it would be. It may be expensive, but where on earth can you have this much fun? I only hope that when our kids are grown they will remember times like these we've shared together as a family. This was truly the time of our lives!

Thanks for reading,

The Renfroe Family (aka Team Renfroe)
