Team Renfroe - Pre-Trip Report for May 15-22, 2009 **Final Chapter**

Too cute pictures of you all standing out in snow. Seems like everyone's getting it except for us Colorado plains folks who are used to much more than we have gotten this winter. I miss it.:sad2:

Just noticed our countdown tickers. You leave for WDW one day before we leave for our Disneyland trip. We had looked into going on a Disney cruise and staying a few days at WDW during this week. We decided against it but I remember being a bit scared of the Star Wars crowd. I'll be interested to see how that goes for you. I'm sure you all will have tons of fun regardless of crowds.

Hi Brook! You know what you should do? Bride the co-worker! Tell her you'll bring her something back from Goofy's Candy Co.!!!! :rolleyes1

:rotfl2: I wonder it would work?! Her weakness is dark chocolate...<evil >!!

Love the family and snow pics! Is it warmer down there today? It hit 40 here in Minnesota today! We got a foot of snow the other day and it's starting to melt! :yay:

Hi Alan,

Love the photos!! I'm sure that the snow in Alabama must have been quite the experience for your kids...

Valeria (and I) loved Truman's photos. She gave a big "Awwww..! when she saw Truman in his blanket.

Regards,

Luis

Hey Alan, you intrigued me over at Cammie's thread so I thought I would check yours out. I really enjoyed all the pics of your May 08 trip, and look forward to your May 09 report! You have a cool family. We are going in November and staying at POR, not doing the ddp as of yet, but you might persuade me with more yummy food pics....

Hey Alan:
Loved your snow pictures of your family! Nice family. :) Where is Jacksonville, AL? My son lives in Indianola, MS and they got snow this past /SaturdaySunday.

Awww...thanks! The snow was a RARE occasion for sure! I've never been to Colorado, but I would really love to go some time. I considered taking a job at Colorado State a few years ago. I don't like cold weather, but I do love it out west...and the Rockies are awesome!

I just found your PTR! I didn't know you had started one. I subscribed, of course. Your daughters are too cute!! We would love to go to Disneyland one day, but WDW is within driving distance....so that helps.

Yes, I'll be interested in Star Wars weekend as well. I would not go specifically for that reason - but since we will be there anyway, I definitely want to check it out! I'll bet it will really crowded....and possibly really weird. Should make for some great pictures for our trip report!

Now THAT's the spirit!! Bribery works most of the time....especially when chocolate is involved. BTW, I gave up chocolate, McDonalds, and Wendy's for Lent.

Thanks for the comments about the family and the snow pics! YES, it is definitely warmer now. It is suppose to be in the 70s for the next 5 days. :woohoo: (Despite what the national media would have you believe, Alabama is actually a wonderful place to live.) A foot of snow? Wow! I sound like an old-timer telling this story, but back in 1993 we had a freak, once-every-100-years snow storm and got 2 feet of snow!!! The entire state was crippled; no power, no water, etc. The state of Alabama only owns 2 snowplows! It was one of those stories that you pass along to your children.

Thanks, Luis! Yes, the children enjoyed the snow very much! Please tell Valeria that Truman loves his blanket! In fact, believe it or not, WE didn't cover him up like that....HE did!

Mobile is at the far South end of the state and we are about 6 hours north...so we get a taste of winter each year...but snow is rare.

We are excited about eating at The Wave also. I have my eye on those lettuce wraps for lunch, and maybe even the Reuben sandwich.

I LOVE schitzus!! My inlaws have a little schitzu, and yes, he rules the roost at their house! His name is Samson.

H portocall! Welcome to the report, and thanks for the kind words about our May '08 trip report! We had a lot of fun putting it together...it is a great way to ease back into reality once we got home from WDW! Thanks for saying we have a cool family! (I happen to agree with you!) I've never stayed at POR, but we have friends who absolutely love it. Oh - and that dining plan - it is really nice! We felt like VIPs our entire trip!

Hey Alan:
Loved your snow pictures of your family! Nice family. :) Where is Jacksonville, AL? My son lives in Indianola, MS and they got snow this past /SaturdaySunday.

Thanks for the kind words about the family and the pics! Jacksonville is a small college town in the Northeast part of the state. We are about 1.5 hours from Birmingham, 1hr 45min to Atlanta, and 2 hours to Chattanooga, TN. We are right at the very end of the Appalachian Mountains...and it really is a beautiful place to live. Jacksonville is called the "Gem of the Hills," and Jacksonville State University is considered "The Friendliest Campus in the South."

We are sort of on the other end of the state from MS. In fact, we are only about 20 minutes from the GA state line.

Now THAT's the spirit!! Bribery works most of the time....especially when chocolate is involved. BTW, I gave up chocolate, McDonalds, and Wendy's for Lent.

Chocolate, McDonalds AND Wendy's?! Wow, you are a strong person! I wouldn't ever be able to do McDonald's during March because of Shamrock Shakes (if you are reading my current TR, you might have caught my entry with my obsession with Shamrock Shakes!). Do they have those in Alabama?

That is crazy about getting 2 feet of snow in one day! That is a SERIOUS storm, even for Minnesota standards! I can't imagine how your state reacted...wow!

I think our tiny little town has more than 2 snowplows! :rotfl:

Hi Alan Thanks for the nice words about Max !! :) I was leery aout a little dog always having large ones but Max has won me over ! :thumbsup2 He is a character !!:lmao:
I have stayed in Chattanoga many years ago on our way to Blairsville Ga!I am sooooo looking forward to meeting everyone on the 17th!!!  !

That is so unfair :lmao: we did not get any snow (or any that stuck). I saw on tv where it hit Atlanta but that is 45 miles away.

Alan your snow pics look awesome! It sprinkled just a little snow here but it melted seconds after it hit the ground. It was just cold as heck all week. It is nice to see your trip plans are moving along and the meet is really shaping up. I wish we were going.

No! We don't have Shamrock Shakes!! And I feel cheated....what's up with that? Ronald McDonald is holding out on us Alabamians!! :rotfl2:

Yeah, that snow storm in 1993 was epic. I don't think I'll ever see anything like that again in my lifetime. I learned one thing by not having water for a week.....do you have any idea how much snow you have to melt to fill up the back of a toilet? :rotfl2:

Chattanooga is a neat town. Back when I was in college, I dated a girl that lived about 45 minutes from Chattanooga and I spent a lot of time there. I've always thought it would be a great place to live.

That is so unfair :lmao: we did not get any snow (or any that stuck). I saw on tv where it hit Atlanta but that is 45 miles away.

We did enjoy it....briefly! However, I'd much prefer the weather we had THIS weekend - highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 50s. It's about time to break out the shorts for the season!

Thanks, Michelle! It was neat for that one day, but I'm glad to be wearing short sleeves again this week!

The planning is coming along smoothly; almost too smoothly. I keep thinking I am forgetting something! Now that the weather is getting betterand the time has changed, our family is hoping to get outdoors more often and get some much needed exercise.

Well, you just KNEW that we couldn't leave well enough alone and keep all of our ADRs without changing something! 90 days is a LONG time!

Anyway, after doing some thinking, we decided to move the times for a couple of our reservations.

1 - We moved our dinner at Flying Fish on May 16th from 7:05pm to 7:45pm. This may not seem like a big deal, but we really want to catch the last showing of the American Idol Experience at 6pm...and DHS closes at 7pm that day. We figured that if the show lasts close to an hour, we would never make it to Flying Fish at the Boardwalk by reservation time. SO...we decided to move it to 7:45pm. We hope to get there a little early and walk around the Boardwalk, since we've never been there.

2 - We moved our Le Cellier lunch on May 17th from 12:45pm to 11:35am. With our DISmeet at 3pm, we felt like we would not get to see very much of the World Showcase before the meet. DS & DD are both excited about doing the Kim Possible experience, so we figured an earlier lunchtime would give us more time before our 3pm meet.

So, even though we made a couple of changes, they were only minor changes and I think we'll be glad we made them! :thumbsup2

What does the tshirt look like? We have an AK meet the week before. Too bad we don't have tshirts!
