Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Oh, Maria, I feel so sorry and glad for you at the same time. Condolences on your loss, with many happy memories (and a great screen name) to remember him into the future.

Maria - I'm so sorry to hear about Worfiedoodles. Keeping his name as your screen name is a great way to keep his memory.

I hope you're enjoying your visit with your dad and smom and I hope that your heating bill isn't too high after having the heat set on 80. :scared1:

Last but not least, congrats on the 12 miles! :cool1: :thumbsup2

John: Awesome job on the race and thanks for sharing the report. As for how I stay motivated ion the TM, the answer is all about tv and movies. I love the live streaming on Netflix.

Maria: So sorry to hear about Worf, losing fuzzy loved ones is tough  Congrats on the fantastic 12

Rose: great to hear you have your gi issues figured out

AFM. The new TM worked out well and I managed a really tough 20 miler. Apparently cookies and chocolate as a primary diet is not great for running :confused3. The new TM is a bit more high tech than I'm used to and I didn't take the time to fully figure it out prior to running. The downside to this was that it beeped every minute... Got really old after 240 beeps. Still haven'tfigured out howto turn off this "feature"

I'm in for Beaches and Cream at 3 on Sat.

Merry Christmas to alll of my cousins :santa:

Merry Christmas!

I can't believe that marathon weekend is less than two weeks away. I hope I'll be able to meet up with some of the 'Ohana gang during the weekend.

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind words. I really appreciate your support!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas -- and is looking forward to a very Happy New Year! :dance3:

We are currently shoveling out from our blizzard -- I got a call last night that I did not need to go in to work today, as I am "non-essential personnel" :woohoo:

Just need to get the big project done this week, and then I can start to think more about WDW! I made our town car and dining reservations, so I guess we're all set. Nothing to do now but watch the FL weather reports, consider what to wear, and surreptitiously turn down the heat...heating with oil is clearly not the most inexpensive option with the elders around :sad2:

Maria :upsidedow

Christmas and New Year's Greeting to you all!

I hope you've been able to get a break of some sort over these last days. My work schedule has been favorable (for a change) with Friday off for Christmas Eve and then Monday off for Christmas Day, and then a 3 day work week until we get this coming Friday off for New Year's Day. So I get 7 out of 10 days off from work over this period, and then am taking the 3rd - 5th off as vacation time to catch up on a few things at home (such as Epic Mickey!). This Christmas was a good one here, with more time spent on people than worrying about stuff--although there was a distinct Disney tint to our Christmas with my getting Epic Mickey (with special paintbrush controller) and my wife getting the Fantasia set she wanted. However, Darcy did make a mention that a Disney trip would have been a nice gift. Well, there is an anniversary in late April.....

January 1st is 20 weeks out from Ironman Texas, which is the start of my training period. I am still a bit unsure of how this will go, and a bit concerned about how my body will hold up, but I am very excited to be looking forward to this event.

I am not sure if I should offer congratulations or condolences for those of you covered in snow, but I hope it is more a good thing than a bad one.

Time to get back to work for me, but I hope everyone has a great week!

Maria, JenB, Julie (anyone else in the NE) - I hope you have been able to dig yourself out from the storm. The storm missed our area, we only got a dusting. My girls were upset, they wanted some serious snow to play in.

Richard- Do you have your Ironman training plan all set up? Are you doing any races as part of your training? I'm sorry that I won't get the chance to see you in Jan. Somehow I have missed meeting up with you at previous races...someday we will meet!

I'm starting to get quite nervous about marathon weekend. :scared1:What was I thinking when I signed up for Goofy? I have gotten in all my long runs in the past few months but have seriously been lacking in my other training. A little over a week to go before we leave and I still don't have my children's sitter confirmed.:sad2:I know everything will work out but I'm a little stressed about it now.

I hope everyone is enjoying this Christmas season. Happy running/walking/biking to all!

Howdy Cousins! Happy New Year to all! My resolution...try to keep up here and post with all of you--I am better when I do. :goodvibes

Sure wish I was heading down for Goofy again this year, but I am not yet in marathon shape. How many cousins will be down for marathon weekend?

My training is on track for the Shamrock in March. I am considering the EE Challenge in May. Has anyone done that, or is planning on it? I may need a teammate...

Hope everyone is warm and well!

Maria--I am so sorry about your kitty. We lost our coon hound about 6 years ago and I still have dreams about her--I just loved her so much!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Mike and I ran twice while at WDW--both times around the BW. The last day we were there it was so cold the boardwalk was coated in ice. We didn't run that day! It was a great trip. My knee is tweaking, but I'm hoping that's from sitting on airplanes and the six billion miles we walked over the last week. We wear virgin healthmile pedometers, so I'm curious to see what the mileage total was for the week!

I hope the weather cooperates for everyone getting ready for the marathon! Maybe all the nasty cold from last week is over, and it will just be comfortably cool!

"Comfortably cool" is exactly what I'm hoping for, although I'll take more on the cool side than the hot if given a choice. :)

I hope everyone's holidays are going or went well. I'm still working off the good drinks and eats from Las Vegas. My last hard run before Goofy was this morning, and now I'm looking forward to a few short easy ones (and one long one) before race day next weekend. I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the meets during the weekend too.

"Comfortably cool" is always good goal racing weather in my book! I hope the best racing weather for all of you coming up at Disney.

I hope everyone had mostly peaceful, healthy holidays filled with love and laughter. And I'm SO looking forward to spending time with many of you, if not at the 2011 marathon weekend then in 2011. I'm really going to try and make travel happen this year.

Maria: Again, I'm so sorry to hear about Worfie. It's strange, but I almost feel like he had a place in my life too. Maybe it's because I'm a pet person with two cats of my own, and we knew you'd have to make the hard decision soon, but I'm mourning his passing.

In a lighter note, about the heat...how about a small bonfire in your living room. Very holiday-ish.

Julie: It's good to see you here! I know how computer issues (and work issues, family, LTO) can interfere with DIS time. Not fair, not fair at all. I hope we see more of each other (here and otherwise) in 2011.

JenB: Yay for the new TM and a 20 miler! Have you figured out how to turn off the beep, which doesn't sound as if it makes for a good soundtrack to your running life?

Kathy: Am definitely hoping to see you next weekend! Goofy is going to be a blast for you & I look forward to cheering you on.

Richard: I just love a Disney-tinted Christmas. Much better than the standard red and green. You know, I find a Jan. 1 start date for your IM training to be a good sign. New year, new goals and all.

Christine: I'm headed down for the half - wish I could say I was in shape for it though. Or at least a less lumpy shape. :lmao: I believe Jeanne's done EE a couple of times and had a blast.

Rose: I'm jealous that you were able to run around BW. A fun, flat, scenic run to put you in the mood for more Disney!

John: I'm hoping for comfortably cool myself. But not like last year - no icicles dripping off elbows, please.

AFM: Yeah, I hit my 10 mile goal and started taper. But more taper than I wanted. Couldn't complete my LR last weekend - hit 6 before the altitude got to me. (DOOD couldn't complete his either, so I felt better about failing.)

But the big news -reposted from Leanies:

The holiday. Worst. Christmas. Ever. One person decided not to come at the last minute. Then my BIL and his GF/mother of my new niece left early after one night for reasons I'm not clear on. That left DOOD and myself as the "children" of very depressed/stressed parents who missed their granddaughter.

So...emotional stresses. And altitude sickness. So we didn't think much of things when DOOD's father was feeling under the weather - at first. Then we visited Bandelier National Monument. The next day, my FIL was hospitalized and we found out he'd had a heart attack some time in the past few days.

Anyway, that's where our time & attention has been. We were unsure what to do and whether we'd be able to go to WDW or should stay in Santa Fe (which is where we were all vacationing). Anyway, my FIL has been released from the hospital now and we're still going to Disney.

I could go on and on about the trip. But the typical outlaw experiences and frustrations seem overshadowed by the heart attack.

I also meant to post this here - and will try to figure out things elsewhere. Anyone here scream teaming, separate from or in addition to volunteering? We're going to scream team somewhere & would love to fly our WISH colors with others! :cool1:

Debra--I am so sorry about your FIL--glad he is doing ok. I don't know all your outlaw stories, but I can definitely empathize. The last time we saw some of Mike's relatives we left the restaurant and went to a bar!!!!! Thankfully it's a very infrequent experience. One of his cousins, I really like, the other one and his sister, not so much. (His parents died years ago.)

Glad you will be able to make the trip to WDW!:goodvibes

Debra - I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. That must have been quite the scare. I'm glad he's doing better now and that your Disney trip is still on. Bummer about the outlaws too. :(

See you guys at the Mouse House next week!

Happy New Year, Cousins!

John --Thanks for the bib # thread ::yes::, it's great to see how many WISHers there are! Dennis is very curious about where he might fall in the corrals. This is his first Full, and his # is 8993.

Rose -- Not to be philosophical, but why is it the outlaws who are gems seem to not stay in your life, but the ones who cause tension are ever-present? :confused3 My favorite SIL is in FL and we rarely see her, the one who makes me crazy is 2 hours away and shows up at the most inconvenient times :lmao: Treasured pets are truly a blessing, and it shows how much since we continue to miss them always. The Boardwalk was coated in ice?! I hope that's over for the foreseeable future!

Debra -- Ok, you win the outlaw madness competition -- aren't you our perennial champ? I am so sorry to hear about everything that happened. It is wonderful that FIL is recovering, I hope he follows directions and everything goes as well as possible. Definitely not a good Christmas, and you deserve a great trip to hopefully put it out of your mind. Remind me -- are DOOD's parents coming to FL this year? Are you all staying together? I am hoping that's not happening for your sake.

Richard -- I am watching the weather like a hawk, which Dennis finds quite humorous since it's still so changeable. I would dearly love a high 50s or low 60s start, but that's just me. I keep telling myself it has to be better than last year, I'll definitely take rain over snow! You must be psyched to begin your new training cycle! I predict great things for you this year!

Christine -- It is hard to keep up here, but I find it worth it when I can do it! :grouphug: Glad to hear your training is on track for your next race, March is just two months away now! :shamrock:

Kathy -- From what little I know, the long runs are key. If you're getting them in, you will be able to go the distance! :cool2: Our snow is starting to melt, it's going to be 50 today. We have to scuttle downtown this morning to see the ice sculptures from First Night before they melt! :sunny:

JenB -- Tell us you've been able to fix the "beep" on the new TM! It sounds wonderful other than that tiny little factor. Great job on the 20, particularly with that distraction! ::yes::

Julie -- Dennis got an early registration for the Run to Remember awhile ago -- are you guys doing that this year? The field is much too fast for me! :goodvibes

Corinna -- Haven't seen you around lately, did you party like it's 1999? party:

Mel -- Please roll out the warmer weather for our arrival. The cooler temps in FL have been making me a nervous Nellie! :thumbsup2

AFM -- I think I had a little taper madness yesterday. I was supposed to do 10M, but missing last week's 12M freaked me out a bit, and I did 12 yesterday. I paid for it the rest of the day, and I'm definitely resting until Monday, when I plan to do 4, then 3, then 2, then airplane! I am really hoping the weather and all conditions cooperate and I get a new PR -- when you are not a fast runner and you do one or two races a year, it's usually possible! :rotfl:

Maria :upsidedow

Mel -- Please roll out the warmer weather for our arrival. The cooler temps in FL have been making me a nervous Nellie! :thumbsup2

I'll see what I can do. This weekend would've been perfect, but there's a front scheduled to roll through sometime between Thurs and Sat, so right now....mid 40s to high 60s, but no guarantees this far out. Anything has to be better than last year.

Debra...so sorry to hear about your FIL and continued outlaw issues.

Between illness and injury, I completed my taper/longest run of 5 miles today. I have NEVER gone into a race so ill-prepared and am questioning doing the thing at all. Of course, after paying $135, I think I'll be out there regardless of whether it's a good idea. My oldest (does anyone still use the term 'eldest') turned 18 3 days ago so we're all still trying to get over the shock :scared1:

Curious...does Grandma's have a half marathon? I'm planning out my race calendar for 2011...have events each month Jan - May so far. What's everyone else planning for 2011?

Mel, your magic seems to have worked overnight. The last forecast I saw this morning said 40s for the start, 60s for the high, and no rain for both race days. That's about as perfectly comfortably cool as you can get. :)

I'm also very impressed that you've got your race calendar planned so far out. Grandma's does have a half marathon, so now you've got something in June too. Mine only goes through April (Goofy plus three other marathons), mostly because at that point I'm going to be so tired of races that I'll need a break for a few months. Except that my friends are trying to talk me into running Flying Pig with them, so who knows if I'll get that break or not.

Happy New Year cousins!

Dang! I'm not getting my thread notifications again. I thought we were unusually quite even for the holiday. :lmao:

My FIL is doing better and they're continuing on with their snowbird plans.

Rose: Half the time I just like to tell my outlaw stories as if they're fish stories. I think they get better and bigger with the retelling. I will say, though, everyone who gathers at them drink - a lot more than normal - as part of the family togetherness. We don't wait to hit the bar. :lmao:

Maria: Wow. You'd like it that hot at the start? You must be an Amazon warrior princess runner! (Like how I got the mention in of the princess race?) I guess with your temps it makes sense. I want it warmer than last year, but not quite so warm. But like everyone else, I'll take what I can get! I can feel a PR in your near future, you taper mad woman you!

DOOD's parents aren't coming this year. There was some fall out for revoking their self-made invitation last year, so they might think they're permanently banned. (They're not...officially.) But my BIL's GF wants to do the marathon next year, so the two them are plotting a family vacation. But I really think it has to do with throwing my FIL/MIL a bone with the grandchild, as I think it's her parents' turn for Christmas next year. If that makes sense.

John: Ah, deceptively casual about the race plans. Goofy plus 3 other marathons. Oh, is that all? Slacker. :rotfl2: Yet, IIRC, you didn't have a touring itinerary for Disney a couple of weeks ago. Yes, you have your priorities straight!

Wait, there's a bib thread. Must print my bib & waivers!

Mel: Wow. I had no idea that you'd be SO sidelined with training. You'll have the stories and bragging rights for the half. I know you've got a strong base & the experience to pull it off. Happy belated birthday to your eldest (see, I'll use it just for you!) and I can't believe it either!

I've got nothing planned yet - starting out my 2011 in style and per usual. It looks like DOOD and I will continue to pick up the odd short race around here, of course, and we'd like to do a destination race or two. But we haven't talked about it. Heck, I'm still making ADRs for this trip! (The state is called Denial.) So I'll be combing the threads when I get back, trying to order the chaos.

Richard: How's IM training going?

AFM: Last LR - the last two weeks have been quite a taper with some knee pain. Probably psychological, but that doesn't make it hurt less. So I don't know what will happen on the course. Better bring my camera, because that will distract me. Yes, oh yes, pictures with the characters do that. Especially those that wear bright shiny things.
