Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Just a quick note to wish good luck to everyone running this weekend. I hope I'll get to meet a lot of you over the next few days. Safe travels, and keep hoping for that comfortably cool weather. :cool1:

Lest I leave out the cousins not making the trek to Orlando this weekend, I hope you guys are all doing well and have an enjoyable weekend too. :)

And Debra, you'll be happy to know that I've got most of my Disney touring itinerary set, including a Drink Around the World effort with some Dailymile and Twitter running buddies at Epcot on Monday. You and the rest of the cousins are welcome to join us. :drinking1

John - Thanks for not forgetting those of us not making the trek to Orlando. ;)

Debra - My IM training officially kicked off this week, so far I have 8 running miles, 15 biking miles and 2.8 swimming miles in week 1 (aka 3 days) :lmao: . I am kind of wondering how I will survive a busy IM training week, but one day at a time I suppose... Thanks for asking so I would forget, for a moment, that I was not heading out to see all of you at WDW.

Maria - I'd rather take the cold before the rain myself, but a definite no to the snow.

We are currently experiencing wonderful weather here in south Texas, cool mornings and not hot afternoons. I will do my best to wish it east for all of you for marathon weekend.

Have a great time this weekend--all you cousins that are running and cheering!

We have had a rough start to the New Year. I ran 12 on Friday, which went great. I had a scratchy throat though, which has turned into a full blown yucky cold, so I'm very glad I'm not doing a race this weekend. No nausea after the run, so I will definitely be sticking with my salty pretzels post run! Woohoo!

On New Year's Day my husband's sister--who was 44--died very unexpectedly. She lives about 400 miles away. They were not close, but his parents both died many years ago and this is his only sibling. It's been a difficult week for my dh. He comes home tomorrow and about an hour after he gets home, our DS goes back to school. They are timing it so they can see each other. After all this, Mike has decided to come with me for the Princess. If the registration is still open he might run. He was very ambivalent, but after all this, I think he just really wants something to look forward to.

I hope everyone is doing well. And again--have a fabulous race if you are running this weekend!:goodvibes

Beaches and Cream! 3pm Saturday!!! Be there or.....no ice cream for you!!!

Rose - I am so sorry about your SIL. Even if Mike and she were not close, it's still very, very sad. My thoughts are with both of you. I hope Mike does decide to run. I saw someone posted a rumor on one of the threads at one point that they make men start in the last corral for the princess. That's not true: they just don't get to start in the first corral. So there are a lot of antsy Princes in corral B.

Mel - I saw you asked about a half-marathon Grandma's weeked in Duluth - there is one, BUT it is a limited field and chosen by lottery. They do the lottery sometime in Feb, so put in for it, but don't buy plane tickets until you hear you're in. A lot of people get turned away from that one, sadly.

I am thinking of the Hypothermic Half - it is nearby and falls neatly between Donald and Princess weekends. I am leery of a race with a dangerous (and potential)medical condition as it's main selling point, BUT I feel left out of the half fanaticism, and this race would push me over the edge to qualifying. I believe I have the drive and the ability - I just have scheduling problems.

Richard - Good luck for the start of your next round of IM training! We will miss you this weekend!

Maria - I would be happy enough with 50 or 60 at the start, I guess, so long as it didn't get any warmer over the course of the race!

John - I think we should definitely plan on starting the race together. We can see how the pace works out, and no hard feelings if one of us decides to be faster or slower at any point in the race. Are you wearing something "special" for this one?

Debra (and others interested in my scream team habits) - I am signed up to volunteer for the full - Water stop 7 - with Racey Tracey. We'll finish up our shift there sometime around 9 or 9:30 and then will likely proceed to cheer outside DHS with Mel and hopefully others. We had a great time there last year.

Oh man, I'd better get to bed. Safe travels and fun times, everyone!

Rose - I am sorry to hear about the sudden loss in your family. I will keep you guys in my prayers.

Corinna - it is good to know that I will be missed. I may grab my own ice cream on Saturday just to support the team. (I can always rationalize an excuse for a good snack!)

AFM - I get to celebrate a personal victory today that I wanted to share with some friends who had supported me for some time. Today I weighed in at 199.4 lbs, which is not only well down from my 263 lbs in December 2007, but also likely the lowest I have likely weighed since......hmmm......approximately 1992/1993 or so. Thank you very much to you all for your support! Now, on to the next goal!

Richard - Congratulations on your personal victory! It's a new cetury for you! Are you still losing? I definitely think you should have some ice cream "with us" at 3pm Eastern Time Saturday. Maybe we could conference-call you in or something. :-)

Sorry for the slight XP - just wanted to give you guys a heads-up.

I am thinking of changing my pounds lost clippie. The 55 clippie reflects the pounds I lost starting from my first Biggest Loser Challenge in January 2009. However. My starting weight from my January 2007 WW online weigh in was actually 10 pounds higher. When I started in 2009, I didn't even want to face up to being where I was, let alone having been 10 pounds heavier. The fact that I managed to keep at least those 10 pounds off (sometimes more) for those two intervening years...well, I'm feeling like that is something to be proud of as well. And I feel like maybe I should really own my actual earlier starting weight and not essentially deny it ever happened. SO, if you happen to notice that I've suddenly "lost" 10 more pounds, do not fear for my health or mental well being. They are "OLD" pounds that I'm just now claiming.

Richard - I love the idea of ice cream on Saturday. A virtual 'Ohana meet! I'll join you (like you, it doesn't take much for an excuse for ice cream, but this seems like a really good one!) Congratulations on the weight victory - you've had an amazing year.

Rose - More prayers for you and Mike. The holidays always seem to be a tough time. My running buddy's MIL passed away on Tuesday, and Wednesday was the 7-year anniversary of my father's death. Crazy times. I definitely think Mike should do the Princess with you - it's a nice diversion.

Corinna - Thanks for the heads up on the clippie. I'd hate to think you were wasting away!

To all the cousins at WDW - have a fabulous time! Enjoy the weather, whatever Mother Nature brings. Apparently she won't be bringing a repeat of last year, so it has to be a good thing.

I'm 2 weeks post-op from my hip surgery, and got the clearance yesterday to start putting weight on the leg. I am a much happier cousin today than I was yesterday, since mobility is far better than it was with no weight on it. I now begin 4 weeks of PT before I see the ortho again. As long as I can run before the Galloway season starts late April, I'll be content.

Jackie

Jackie - Glad to hear you are healing well. I hope you'll be able to hit the roads in no time. I am in with you on the virtual meet! I'll be having my ice cream at 3 PM (2 PM for me!)

Corinna - Being someone who has gone from 266 lbs to 200 lbs, then back to 263 lbs before getting back down to where I am today, I know how hard it is to "admit" to the extra weight, and I say you should claim every last pound and be proud of all of your success. Yes, I am still losing weight, or at least I have finally broken off a plateau where I had been stuck for a while. I would really like to get back into the 180's for the long run. Thanks for the call in offer to the meet, it's not really necessary; though I will have my cell phone with me if you feel moved to call!

Finally, another "me" comment. I am really enjoying having a new iPad (thanks for answering my questions Jen!) which allows me to stay on top of email, websites and more on my schedule, rather than the schedule of being near my computer, although typing can be tricky at times. Perhaps best of all is that no one can call me on it like a phone, unless I am on Skype but that's another story altogether.

Richard--Congratulations on breaking through that barrier! That's awesome! I know how much hard work it takes to lose it and maintain it!

Corinna--Mike and I are up for having a bit of ice cream at 3pm on Saturday--we'll be thinking about you all! Hope you have a fabulous time. And I know how hard it is to own those pounds--my highest point was around 195, but I use 189 for my current loss. If you feel more empowered to put those pounds in your clippie then I say go for it!

Jackie--that's wonderful that you are getting some mobility back!

Thank you all for the kind thoughts. Mike is home and Tom left to go back to school around 11am. Mike and I are sitting here enjoying a minute or two of calm, but I think we might both go into work for a couple of hours this afternoon.

Safe travels to everyone headed to WDW!:goodvibes

Hello cousins!

I just wanted to drop in to say good luck to everyone racing this weekend! I'm looking forward to reading your race reports! :cool1::thumbsup2:banana:

I really wish I could have done the marathon this year. Hopefully 2012 will work out.

Rose, I'm so sorry about Mike's SIL. Lots of warm thoughts for both of you.

Corinna, starting together sounds great. I'm in corral A (yikes!) but can easily drop back.

Richard, I love your ice cream dedication. :)

Sorry for the short note, but posting from a phone is not easy.

3pm - Beaches and Cream OR (possibly) right here at our Ohana home???

Julie! We will miss you this year. Fingers crossed for 2012!

John - Corral A!! WOW. I am assuming Corral B for me. I am thinking if you started in A, you'd possibly have a more of challenge going appropriately slowly.

Have a great weekend, everyone!!!

Congratulations to the 5K and half marathon finishers!:cool1:

I'm celebrating in spirit with a caramel cashew sundae from Texas. It's my first major off-diet snack in several weeks, but you guys are worth the sugar rush! ;)

Good luck tomorrow, marathoners!

Hope everyone is having a great time!

I'm having a bowl with a little bit of mint ice cream and a little bit of raspberry. We just ran 6 miles, so I don't feel too guilty.:goodvibes

I'm having an oreo mint milkshake. And it's snowing! (Nothing's sticking - even better, but it's been fun to watch.)

Congratulations to all who've finished the 5K and the Half, best wishes for those running and/or volunteering at the Full tomorrow!

Jackie

Congratulations to our marathon and Goofy finishers today! I look forward to reading everyone's race and trip reports!

I'll have my race report once I get back to my laptop. Too tough to do on a phone. Besides, I'm busy drinking Guinness this afternoon. :)
