Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Thanks for all the words of encouragement, cousins!

Of course because I'm trying to get ready for this 5K and lose some weight so my capris will fit in less than a month, I had to go and hurt my foot. I was trying to catch up with my husband walking into Ingles yesterday and was wearing potato shoes (though the cheap Walmart knock off - I wouldn't pay that much for shoes even though I love them!). The shoe slipped forward and all my weight went down on the middle of my heel on that really hard part that sticks up in the back. It hurts to put weight on it now and you can even see the bruise on my heel (and I don't bruise easily - even when I broke my foot!) I'm such a klutz.

Now Cadbury I could wallow in...and it's almost Cadbury Mini Egg season!
Oh gosh, these are my favorite!!! I'm already stalking the shelves watching for them. :lmao:

There was a request for cute pets, right? These are my kitties when they were kittens.

Jack (left) and John (right) when we found them at Petsmart. They were bottle fed babies that were about 12 weeks old at the time. They're a year and a half now. And yes, that is a Piglet doll in the cage with them. :wizard: I knew it was meant to be when I saw that!

And their "baby brother" Pumpkin who was left on the doorstep of someone from church's home. They couldn't keep him because their daughter has asthma, so we took him in. We think he was about 6 weeks old. Isn't that the most precious thing? He's 10 months old now.

Pumpkin loves getting in plastic bags! :lmao:

We've also got two rabbits. I'll have to find good pictures of them to share!

The cousin thing is from the Lilo and Stitch movie, too (one of them) - Lilo kind of explains it at one point - I'll see if I can find the quote - and she calls all the experiments "cousins," too.
Yes, it's a Hawaiian thing. It's a term of endearment for friends like buddy, only it has the connotation of being like family. I googled for a better explanation than my own, but couldn't find a quick answer.

Hey Ohana, could you please pray for the Brown family? I do not know this family personally, but their 14 year old son, Todd, was shot and killed in one of our middle schools today by another student. It is a senseless killing. He shot him in the back of the head while changing classes. I cannot imagine the grief that family is experiencing right now.

Thank you. :littleangel:

That is so terrible, I will be praying for them.

Just back from the show - Allie, that is the saddest thing. I can't even imagine. My thoughts are with the Brown family and your community tonight.

Allie: Oh my, how tragic.......I just can't imagine the pain. Prayers on the way.

Wow Allie, that's awful. They'll be in our thoughts.

So sorry, Allie. What a horrible time for that poor family, and the entire community. I will definitely at them to my prayers.

Maria :upsidedow

Allie - how senseless! We worry about our kids every day, but this..... Wow... Sending prayers.

As for me - Friday is my really hard workout day - 50 minutes bike, 35 minutes run/walk, 15 minutes streching, 30 minutes weight training with trainer.

Ouch.

That does seem to be such a senseless tragedy, Allie. I think you may live near my Godparents, they are in Madison, AL.

Just finished shoveling out here and trying to decide if that is good enough for a workout today. I do want to do my strength training, however. I will leave the TM for tomorrow.

Terri, that sounds like a heck of a workout. I have never been able to get into the bike. I guess I will not make much of a triathelete.

Thanks everybody! :grouphug: It's been rough. You just never think this kind of thing will happen in your town. The news seems to relay that it was an isolated incident. Hope it wasn't gang related, but I know they are here. They are everywhere. I just feel so bad for both families. One family lost their son to death, and the other family to jail. Although, from what I hear from my son's friends, the shooter has had anger management issues for some time. Wish someone would have noticed, if they could have, and diffused him. Shooting someone in the back of the head is like an execution. How does a 15 year old get that mad? :confused3 I just don't understand. Thanks for praying with me cousins. :grouphug:

Allie - continued prayers for all involved.

I got on the treadmill again this morning - 60 minutes at the 9/1 interval. It's still hard for me....but I keep going.

I'll try to go a bit faster in the next week or so.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!!

Just saying goodbye to some weekend houseguests. 2 parties to go to later. I'd like to get on the TM for a bit... Not sure that will happen. I did get my 50 minute strength routine yesterday.

I was bummed last night when I got to our neighborhood gym and all the treadmills were being used. It's been a long time since I've been on an elliptical, so I settled for one of those and tried to do my best at a "jogging" pace. Right after I got on, someone got off a treadmill, but she left her magazine and her jacket/towel draped over it. I figured she was coming right back. Well, she totally disappeared for 30 minutes! I was kinda annoyed at her rudeness. On the plus side, I really enjoyed my time on the elliptical - all my running resulted in a fun, sort of easy challenge on that machine. After 25 minutes someone else got off a treadmill, so I finished my workout on there with a single 10-minute mile.

DH is on board with me doing the Princess Half THIS year! :cheer2: Now I have to ask work if I can get a few days off, which might be a problem - not sure. I know it's almost full, so I'll need to figure this out quickly. Also if it works out, I'll need to switch my training schedule. I've just been focusing on increasing the time/distance that I run each week, but now I want to train on a run/walk model, since I'm not ready to run an entire half.

Allie - More prayers for both families and yours too. It shakes up the whole community when something like this happens.

Rebecca - Good luck getting everything in place for the Princess!

Corinna
- Yep, we have 2 half marathons 2 days in a row in March. However, I can already qualify as a Neptune since I'll have run WDW, Myrtle Beach, and Tobacco Road within 90 days. I can join based on that, but I keep looking for a higher level! I had said I was giving up on the 6 month idea, but yesterday a couple of my running buddies expressed an interest in the April half so it's back on the table. Apparently I'm a true fanatic...

Mel
- You've gotten me in in trouble. I'm now determined to do DNA testing, at least on Sienna. Apollo is definitely primarily boxer, but no one has a clue about Sienna. It's definitely worth the money to me to find out what she is. I've already bookmarked the site for Muttmart! After Myrtle Beach...

Ran a 5K today that I had no plan to run until about 8:00 this morning. Went to church, came home and changed, went down and registered. DH and I both ran, along with several of our friends. Shaved 1:36 off my previous PR. If I'd seen the course first, I would never have registered. First 2 miles weren't so bad, last mile was almost all uphill, and they weren't gradual hills. Still, I hadn't done a 5K in a couple of years, so it was a nice change of pace. Maybe not the smartest thing since I ran 10 yesterday and have a half marathon on Saturday, but fun anyway!

What a senseless tragedy. My heart goes out to both families suffering as a result.

Little by little the current "challenging" will become the new "normal." Keeping on going is definitely the main thing!

Oh, houseguests. It always makes it challenging to get your usual stuff done. Nice job getting your strength in yesterday and have fun at those parties!

Oh my goodness! How exciting is this???? I'm really excited for you and hope we'll have a chance to meet up there! Cause goodness knows we don't live close enough to get together otherwise. Sometimes these last minute trips are the best ones. I hope it all falls into place easily for you! :goodvibes

Jackie - I think joining at the Neptune level sounds great, personally. I'd love to be there now, but it's not happening. I'm not doing a half this month in Minnesota! No way, no how. So I'll have to wait for the Saturn opportunity in June.

As for me: Eurydice finished today and is all loaded out of the theater in what was probably the fastest strike I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. The stuff we loaded out fit in my minivan and the directors whatever-it-is vehicle. The last show is always a bit of a disaster for me. Last show, I think I had a brutal flu or something. This time - the DVD player I've been working with all along...didn't work anymore and needed to be replaced at the last minute. I didn't even get a chance to play with how it all worked before they opened the house.:eek::eek: There were a few screw-ups, I can not lie. And while nobody gave me a hard time about it at all, and said it was understandable, I am still dissatisfied with how the performance went in my department today. :sad2:

Yesterday was a wild and crazy day. I got up at 5:45 to go to the early spin class with my friend and now WW leader Lysa (some of you met her at marathon weekend, I think). After spin class, we stuck around for Bodypump. I was tempted to stay for kickboxing because I always want to try that class, but wisely did not stay this time either.

The show last night was terrific - went really well from my perspective. And then I got talked into going to the cast party afterward as well (though I was already a little tired from getting up so early!). It was pretty fun, but not wise! The beverages offered were beer, wine and rum drinks. It's not my first pick by any means, but I requested a little rum on the rocks. So the host, the very nice 25 year old leading man says "Oh, I'll get you the GOOD stuff." And I say "OK, but just a little!" And he comes back with a whole 6oz of, as he said, the GOOD stuff for me. Why does this always happen to me? I need to find some way to pour my own drink or at least superintend the pouring a little more closely! I have a one-drink maximum and that was at least 2 drinks right there. :rolleyes1

We played Apples to Apples and I totally cleaned up. That is such a fun game. I'm sorry to say, the "Giant Squid" trump card was not respected, however. By the time that large glass of rum (and yes, some of the incredible 12 year old Glenlivet single malt the director was later given as a gift) had worn off, it was pushing 2am. :sad2:

Between sleeping in a bit, running and subseqently striking the show this afternoon, and feeling a little fatigue from yesterday's spin/pump doubleheader, I'm putting off my long run until tomorrow. Sigh.

Richard - I like your new avatar. And now I can't remember what your old one was....how quickly I forget. I didn't get hit in the head with a rock in my youth (my sister saved me from that) but I do have my share of damage anyhow, you know!

Allie – :grouphug: to you and your community right now.

Terri – Good work on the treadmill. As Corinna said, the improvement comes with continued training.

Rebecca – I do get annoyed at people who try to improperly and unfairly hold machines at the gym like that.

Jackie – Nice work on the PR today!

Corinna - Congrats on the Eurydice run! As much as you’ve been doing lately, I can see where a rest day would do you a world of good. I know the toughest thing for me to do is to take a proper rest day when I get into training. My recent avatar was Mickey and I in January, so it was only up for a short bit. This one is my pencil drawing of the race mascots. I may try to improve the image when I have time. (for a long time it was the Houston Astros logo—and I highly recommend NOT getting hit in the head by rocks!)

Congratulations to both the Indianapolis Colts and the new Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints (who’d have thought that would ever happen??) for playing a great game.

As for me, I felt like I had a breakthrough long run this morning. I averaged 11:03 for 8.7 miles (extending to 9 minute run/1 minute walk), which is like a dream run for me. For small parts of it I felt as I did in my 20’s when I though I could just run all day (back before I appreciated what running talents I had). Now I was tiring at the end, so I am pretty sure I could not have held that pace through too many more miles, but for just a few scattered moments of that run I felt like I recaptured a long gone feeling from 20 years ago.
