Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Good Morning, Team!

I just did 4 mi on the TM, and now I'm about to get my day started. I have an Excel class this morning, then I'll make my way into work. After lunch at P.F. Chang's -- I'm having the lunch bowl, honest! :thumbsup2

Debra -- I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you should start with the first Diana Gabaldon book in the Outlander series. It definitely makes more sense if you read them in order. The first book is Outlander. :flower3:

Everyone have a fantastic day, get out and move if you can! :cool1:

Hi everyone

I'm sorry I haven't posted sooner. I keep waiting until I can catch up with the thread and also have time to post an intro about me - but it just isn't happening. If I wait until I can do a Debra worthy post:worship: you'll never see me. So I'm just going to jump right in today and try to catch up and figure out who everyone is later.

I did see that Mel and JenB are going to the Princess in a few weeks.princess: I'll be there too - hopefully we can meet up.

I'm excited to be a part of the Ohana team  - after skimming through the thread it's obvious what a fun, supportive bunch you are. I'm also glad to see that others here have signed up for the Goofy. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I registered.:confused3

Sorry for the short post - I'll try to check in again later after the kids are in bed.

Kathy

:welcome: Kathy! Just jump right in whenever you can. We are a crazy, yet friendly bunch.

Welcome Kathy :yay:

Yes, you read correctly-- I will be at Princess in a few weeks although we still don't have our schedule set at all, so I'm not too sure if DH and I will make the WISH meet but we can definitely chat pre-race. We both also signed up for Goofy 2010-- I don't know what we were thinking:confused3

I did manage 10 miles last night and 30min on the ellipse today but an having real trouble with inspiration. I'm glad we signed up for the Princess because I know I need to be in shape for the event so it sort of keeps me going.

Hello and welcome Kathy! I am new here too (this week) and my head is spinning trying to keep everyone straight, let alone do a Debra-worthy post, addressing everyone. I'll get there yet!

Do any of you use the Garmin 405 w/ a Mac? Ugghhhh! I just spend the last hour on the computer trying to get this thing to connect to GarminConnect and finally upload my WDW half marathon info and other training runs and I lost it all. The Mac software (download) just came out a few days ago, so I'm sure there are bugs, but I get so frustrated with these tech-y things and I'm sad that I lost all of my data from my WDW half. :(

Didn't get a workout in today as Tuesday's are a bad day for me. I did double up yesterday and did a run and went to the gym for a Body Pump class. :cheer2:

Kerry, Kathy, Marcy: Oh, don't feel intimidated by the "Debra-length" posts. Everyone else has learned to tolerate them and know it's just easier for me to post long than to edit. :lmao: And remember, I have no life to compete with the posting (see my bio). Y'all (or is that yinz) do! :thumbsup2

Maria: I KNEW you'd say Outlander. Not only is it the obvious choice, but it's the one that's still checked out at my library! :rotfl: How did your P.F. Chang's lunch go? Can you believe I've never been there?

Kathy: Definitely hook up with Mel and JenB. Not only to get an 'Ohana team photo, but because they're loads of fun! Celebratory drinks after if not at the WISH meet? Remember, what happens at Disney stays in Disney. (As Big Vic, another WISHer, repeatedly tells us. Hmmmm....) Oh, and there's a cheat sheet (a summary) of team members in the second post of the thread; it's got our handles/real names, and so of our bio answers. (Those will change over the months, as I'll be asking more questions. Always more. *Sigh.*)

JenB: Did you decide where you're staying for the Princess? As for the Goofy, you were thinking that Kathy, DOOD and I were also going Goofy so why not make an Ohana family affair. Right? :confused3 :rotfl2:

And Jeanne--are you in for the Goofy officially?

Kerry: I can't tell you anything about the 405/Mac yet. I just ordered DOOD his 405 today after getting the email confirmation about Mac support. Hopefully we'll muddle through it together. (He's supposed to order me my 405, so we're giving each other gifts. Awwww, how romantic. ;) ) I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your data from the 1/2, though. That's the kind of thing that happens to me.

As for me: Okay, not much for me. I've been an unmotivated slug, which is probably casting aspersions on slugs. I imagine they're quite ambitious, actually. I've been getting in my WOs, but avoiding weight training. Bad, bad, Debra. Someone jack slap me.

Monday Mixers?
In other news, I've been thinking about responses to last year's team challenge. Most of us like getting to know people in more intimate settings, but there was some concern that WISH became a little fragmented. And some people felt isolated in their teams or that cliques formed to the greater WISH detriments. So I've been thinking 'Ohana might want to host a "Monday Mixer" and invite other teams/"clique" threads over to our thread--on Mondays. That way we'll get to know other people. (I'm egregiously stealing the idea from what Jeanne posted when the teams were being reconstituted.)

So, what I was thinking was we might post a "conversation starter"--something about training, a question or request for information. Then I'd post that conversation starter on the other threads and invite them to come over here--or possible to a new thread that 'Ohana starts and "hosts" as a "Monday Mixer." We'd make a point of posting, and hopefully others would feel comfortable, too. Does that make sense? Does it sound like a good idea?

Hola Cousins!

I was home with ds today (one of those endless vacation weeks kids in the NE get), so I did 4 mi before I surrendered to him. That meant no DISing, but it turns out I'm a pretty good Wii bowler. 7 strikes in one game!

Debra -- P.F. Chang's was yummy! They have desserts in little shotlike glasses, so I had one with the Great Wall of Chocolate. I was actually disappointed because I thought the cake was a bit dry. I think I'll skip dessert next time. Outlander is worth waiting for, I promise. In the meantime, I recommend the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. Amelia is an archaelogist in the 1890s and early 20th century. She and her family always find a bit of murder and mayhem in Egypt. Truly entertaining, especially after the 1st book.

I guess we can ask training questions if we have to for the mixers -- but you know I'm always more interested in what everyone is reading! :lmao: Ignore me. I'm giddy waiting for Lost...

JenB -- You are doing great distances for someone who is uninspired! I also have to "fake it 'til I make it" on a regular basis, but honestly, it sounds like you are doing it! :thumbsup2

Kathy -- I am in awe of you and Jeanne, JenB and Debra and everyone else who is going Goofy! :goofy: Youins are all very very brave! :worship:

Julie -- I bet those scorpion bowls are few and far between, I know you wouldn't want to miss Corona night! ;)

Corinna -- So glad the first week turned out well. Yesterday, I was walking down the street just having a think. :cool1:

Tomorrow I'm hosting a luncheon for our program directors. It's an evaluation -- where they tell me what they did and didn't like about our funding application process. But since there's food, they should be in a good mood. Plus, they really did a great job this year with a new activity, so I went to the dollar store and got everyone a little award, and we made certificates for each person. I think my favorite title is, "Sunglasses at Night", for someone who was working the 3rd shift while trying to get through our process. It's a little tough when the rest of the world is asleep...she's getting giant plastic sunglasses. I'm hoping everyone will leave laughing and realizing they are appreciated.

Anyway, I'd better get ready for tomorrow. DH is dropping me off early so he can take ds in for a flu shot. By the way, the little girl who had the heart attack is off the ventilator, which we're told is a very big step for her. I know there are people all over praying for her.

Here's to an awesome Thursday!
Maria :upsidedow

It's not Monday, but I am just dropping by to offer a 'jack-slap' to Debra!:badpc: (the best similie I could find, sorry) There, how's that? Are you motivated to workout yet?

Beth

Good morning Cousins. Just a quick one this morning to say that we've been sickly here. And by "we" I mean my youngest son and I. And by sickly, I mean feverish and sleeping all the time. Could be worse, I guess. It did mean I missed my XT yesterday and took a fully realized "rest day" instead.

I love the idea of Ohana hosting Monday Mixers with a discussion question etc. Sounds like fun to me.

Maria - I'm so glad to hear the girl is improving.

Debra - slugs are not ambitious, just hungry, and almost never weight train. And I didn't intend to drink whiskey of a particular church - just whatever is handed to me, apparently. I did look a little into the history of Irish whiskey and man - convoluted!

Kerry - I use a mac and a Garmin 305, but have never gone to the trouble of trying to connect the two. I have a friend who has done so, but that probably doesn't help with your 405 troubles.

Jen B - 10 miles = :woohoo:

Kathy - I think we've all felt the same way - just jump in where you are. No need to catch up. :)

And with that, I'm off. I'm supposed to do a Tempo run today. Not sure exactly what tempo is actually in the cards for me today, though. Still. Kinda. Tired.

Hello Cousins

JenB - How is the Princess training going? I read in one of your posts that you ran 10 miles the other day. I haven't run more than 3 miles since the marathon. I feel like such a sloth (I was going to say slug, but that one's been taken). Good luck with the race. Are you bringing your DD?

Maria - Good luck with the luncheon today. :goodvibes It sounds like it will be a lot of fun for all. You're right about the scorpion bowls - I would definitely prefer a Corona. Hey, I just realized it's Thursday - my Corona night!

Debra - I love the "Monday Mixers" idea. It sounds like the perfect way to get to know other WISHers while continuing to chat with our teammates as well. And you're most definitely not a slug. Even if you haven't been doing all of the training that you had planned, you're still getting your WO's in and you're also expending a lot of energy and brain power coming up with these great new ideas for the WISH team! :thumbsup2 I'm going to have a Corona in your honor tonight. :drinking1 Speaking of beer, do you think we could flavor the DVC Kool-Aid to taste like beer? Maybe DOOD would be willing to drink it that way.

Beth - Hi! Thanks for stopping by.

Corinna - I'm sorry to hear that you and your DS have been sick. I hope that you're both feeling better soon. Take it easy and don't do too much too soon.:goodvibes

As for me, I'm getting out there for my runs, but I cannot find the motivation to do any type of XT. I'm almost afraid to look in the mirror in the morning - there might be a big three-toed sloth where my reflection should be. :scared1: I'm hoping that I will find some motivation once the kids are back in school next week. Having them home is fun, but exhausting (another double playdate today  ).

Hello :wave:toJeanne,Nancy, Mel, Jen, Richard, and the rest of the crew!

Howdy! O'Hana!!!

Debra, that mixer thing is a great idea! You do Mondays and I will do Wednesdays! I'll call mine Ice Cream Socials! :rotfl:

Just a quick drive-by to say Hi to all of you! Are you following the three bite rule???

Here's another suggestion. Put your utensil down between bites! It's like taking a little breaks during your meal and you my find you chew your food up better!

 Connie

The prodigal cousin has returned.......

I guess I partied a little too much in NY. I've been sicker than a dog all week. Now I'm feeling pretty much back to normal and poor hubby seems to have caught it. I'm starting to get alittle bit worried about my readiness for the Princess half. Since completing the marathon, I have only done one 4-mile walk. I have a fair amount of cross-training, but that's it. When i originally signed up for it, I thought I would have completed at least 4 long walks before doing the half, but I've had something every single weekend and the next 2 will be equally busy. I may attempt an 8-miler tomorrow. I hate to do it on a weekday because of the traffic, but it's going to be my only opportunity this week. Has anyone else ever done a half-marathon without any training right before?

Wow, there were alot of posts to catch up with! I even had to make notes as I read through them all. My apologies if i missed anyone.

Richard: Congrats on your recent race.....sounds like it had some challenging moments but you were able to conquer them. Kudos for snagging the Treehouse Villas for the 2010 marathon weekend. I'm curious.....are they considered part of SSR? We are OWK owners, but usually pay for a room at the Poly during marathon weekend because we love the convenience. I'd love to be able to snag a room at the new BLT, but I'm sure those will go super fast.

Christa: very belated (but heartfelt!) birthday wishes to you! :cake: :bday: :cake:

Kerry: Welcome to our Ohana family! :welcome: Born in Brooklyn makes you a true New Yawker in my book.......yay, our ranks are growing! :thumbsup2 (and did i just recently read that Denny was born in NY also? :woohoo: )

Corinna: glad your show was a great success. My daughter was a techie in H.S. and always had these wild stories about how they would sneak funny things on the props to get the actors to lose their cool. Now you would never do anything like that, would you?

Maria: how sad about that little girl......how is she doing now? And yes, I think we all need an epiphany. Moms are so like that....we take care of everyone else but ourselves. You need to take care of yourself also....you ARE worthy!

Deb: Fables? I never heard of them, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. I made myself a note to google them. I love the idea of visiting other threads on a designated day. Just please clarify. Do we visit on Mondays....or is that the day we encourage visitors? I guess we go over to Connie's thread on Wednesdays then, right?

JenB: your exercise routine is enough for both of us. Too bad it doesn't work that way.......:sad2:

Robert, Linda: I hope Linda's foot is starting to feel better and you're making progress with the Big River Brewery. I saw that DR just had a 2-year anniversary for their forum....Congrats!

Julie, Kathy, Nancy, Marcie, Denny, Jen, Mel :wave2: Did I miss anyone?

Happy Thursday, this means the work week is almost over :cool1:

I've had a long, rough week. The flu is out in full force in NJ and I think I've seen every kid with it... work has been crazy busy and by the time I get home I have little to no motivation to do anything let alone exercise. The only good part is the treadmill keeps moving so I have to move with it or risk injury :lmao: I hope to get in about 5 miles tonight while watching Survivor (yeah tivo)

The Princess training is going ok-- I'm getting in my runs and cross training because I feel I should, not because I have great motivation. DH and I will be coming down solo for the weekend- a quick down of Friday back on Sunday sort of trip. It will be nice to have "grown-up time" but it will be tough to be in Disney without DD5. We figured with a trip that quick she wouldn't really have much time for fun and get frustrated at us for spending so much time with "race stuff". We still have no hotel or rental car but that is on the agenda for tomorrow (great plans of doing things over lunch break foiled by not actually having a lunch break...)

I also just wasted a lot of time rereading Eargon and Eldest then Brisingr, very entertaining and mindless fantasy fluff.

now to stop procrastinating and start exercising...

Hi everyone
I just wanted to say hi and say I didnt leave you as fast as I joined you,lol
My oldest daughter (4 1/2) has salmonella and has been really sick and I have been trying to help her feel better. I havent been online to do anything so just wanted to let you know where I have been and that I will try to get back to the human race next week or so. I have heard it can take up to 3 weeks for little ones to feel better so Im hoping its soon for
her sake and mine :rotfl:

hope all of you are doing well and I will try to catch up on posts and all the activity (no pun intended ) when I get back online.
big hugs from your new cousin

Julie - if you are comparing yourself to a sloth and Debra is comparing herself with a slug, then I must be the slow lorris! Sometimes it's hard to get that XT - I have never managed it all that well. You're still getting the miles in, though, so that counts for a lot. :thumbsup2 Kids on vacation is definitely an exercise challenge! Hope that double playdate went OK - it sounds very tiring!

Debra - I keep forgetting to say "FABLES!!!" I have been reading that one halfway recently. How about that Prince Charming, eh????

Connie -Ice Cream Socials! That sounds like so much fun. I'll be right over! I love your food tips, as well. Thanks again for being a recurring guest star here!

Jeanne - Welcome home! It sounds like you had a blast in NYC. Glad you're feeling better now, anyhow. Hope your DH feels better soon.

I think you'll be OK for the princess. Do you remember how I did the half in January on one month of training after my concussion? The fact that you've done this distance (and twice this distance) before and even recently means that you have what it takes in your system. You've got the base to do it - the first thing to go is the cardio and it sounds like you've kept that up with some XT, so I'm guessing you're good to go. Though I'm no expert, obviously. Except in having last minute problems. :rolleyes1

As for sneaking things into props.....I would never! But my partner in crime co-stagemanager definitely would. And has. This show has a gazillion suitcases in it, and at one point there is a bag that gets opened and briefly searched on-stage. She put a silky nighty in this guy's bag. Which is kind of in character for the guy, so the director KEPT it in the show.

JenB - hope your date with the TM went OK tonight. I know what you mean about gotta keep moving on that thing. Believe it or not, I read all of Eragon, but didn't make it too far into Eldest before life took over. I never finished that one. I'd be interested to hear if you thought the second and third books measured up well to the first one.

The first time I went to WDW without my kids, it definitely felt weird, but it does make it easier that so much of race weekend stuff is things they would just be bored with anyhow. It's easier to enjoy a race weekend without feeling like you have to slog through the parks with the kids after the races, too. My kids have enjoyed the guilt-gifts upon my return as well! :thumbsup2 And finally, way to get that training in. It's so hard when the motivation is lacking, and you are doing it anyway. That's impressive.

Marcy! Oh my gosh - your daughter has salmonella!!! How scary and miserable that must be. Was this part of the recent peanut debacle or unrelated illness? I'm glad to hear you're hanging in there. I know we'll all be thinking of you and your daughter as she continues to recover.

As for me - today I did not sleep the day away, but I did opt out of that 5 mile run with Tempo. Instead did an hour of XT - 20 minutes of getting shredded by Jillian, 20 minutes of resistance band for my back. 20 minutes of killer core workout on the exercise ball. Maybe I'll get to run tomorrow. :)

Hey Ohana family!! Just doing a quick flyby. It has been a while since I have came in but I still get the posts and check in from time to time. I just want to say that you guys are awesome and fantastic!! If you can keep Stitch under control, I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Keep it up!!
Bryan:cheer2: :woohoo: :yay: :cool1:

Robert, Linda: I hope Linda's foot is starting to feel better and you're making progress with the Big River Brewery. I saw that DR just had a 2-year anniversary for their forum....Congrats!

Just a quick note that Linda thanks you and we were told we no longer can discuss anything regarding this until settled. No more updates :(

Hi Bubba!!!!! :wave2:

I hear ya, Robert........I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that all will go well and you'll get the outcome you desire without any more hassle!

Just a :drive: for me. I weighed myself today and have now lost 11 pounds since I started this on 1/14. I think the BL challenge (which started on 1/19) with Beth has kept me motivated. I think I found the right combination of exercising and WW diet that works for me. It's a shame that surgery is going to throw this all off when I am on a roll. But nothing I can do about that. I feel good that I lost the 10 pounds that was my initial goal.

Have a great weekend my cousins.

Nancy
