Been a week.

Thursday I had the mother of all PMS days-- without it actually being a PMS episode! I was tired and cranky and didn't even want to be around myself. I felt bad that I was so crabby but my family is smart and they all just left me alone! It is amazing how well my girls get along together when they know I could snap at any moment!
I went to bed early and was back to normal yesterday. Today is house and room cleaning along with laundry and whatever else I figure out I have to do. My girls are off cleaning. Everyone is off on Monday so we are going to try to find something fun to do. I have a few Groupons for things so hopefully we can do one of those.
So I was studying the nutrition information on bacon this morning. Been using Turkey bacon but I really don't like it.

I have regular bacon for the rest of the family. And I had read something on Hungry Girl about how Center Cut bacon isn't all that much different from Turkey bacon. The numbers are interesting, especially if you consider that with a bacon serving size the number of slices you have on your plate means more to you than the weight. All of the serving sizes are around 15g but with regular bacon that is 2 slices (14g) and with Turkey bacon that is 1 slice (15g). When you break down the numbers there is really not a whole lot of difference between one slice of regular or one slice of Turkey bacon. Calories, total fat, sat fat, protein and carbs are exactly the same! One slice of regular bacon has less sodium and less cholesterol ( because by weight one slice is half the size of one slice of Turkey bacon). I find this very interesting because I have always said that I would rather have LESS of the stuff I like than substitute something "healthier" that I don't like. If you use one slice of Center Cut Bacon the numbers are actually BETTER than Turkey bacon-- less fat and more protein! And of course my WOE is all about lower fat and higher protein.
I think I may continue to use the Turkey bacon in things like omelets and salads where I am going more for that overall smoky bacon taste and crunch, but for just plain eating I am going to go back to regular bacon and limit it to that one slice. And as my DH has pointed out the regular bacon actually looses a lot of fat when it is cooked so when all is said and done it may end up being very similar to the Turkey Bacon. I think I am going to experiment by weighing some regular, then cooking it and weighing it again.
Have to run clean the kitchen.
