Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Here's my Sparkpeople quote for the day I wanted to share. I've been getting in the habit of posting one of these a day on my FB to keep me motivated.

SparkpeopleQuote1.jpg

i am LOVING everyone's qotd responses! i feel a little bad dissing everyone's family by saying that in the :wizard:poofing you'd be alone at disney. i'm an only child so i always think of being alone as a good thing. you can bring your family along in your :wizard:poof if you'd like. :lmao:

i was on my own during princess weekend and it was great! i did the hall of presidents (did you know i can name all the presidents in order, by heart? ok, well i lose it sometimes after coolidge but usually can get back to it once i get through hoover, Roosevelt, eisenhower and truman and onto kennedy) and spent ALOT of time people watching. i mean, really, is there a better place to people watch than disney?

on my next trip to disney in may i'm booked not only for a SPA treatment :woohoo: but also the keys to the kingdom tour :woohoo::woohoo: it's a combo birthday/christmas/thanks for popping out another kid present from hubby. can't wait :)

Ok, still not feeling all that great...but I think I'm getting there. I can actually breathe thru my nose...LOL! My week has pretty blah diet wise. Though I've pretty much been eating soup and toast. Not sure what that will do for weigh in tomorrow. I have been drinking tons of water though...probably about 100 oz a day...makes my throat feel better...LOL!

I did get some exercise in today...so that is good.

I also loaded "My Fitness Pal" onto my phone. My name there is the same as here "yanni2" if anyone would like to friend me.

QOTD: POOF! you're in Disney! Alone! No kids, work, pets, responsibilities! What SPECIAL event, show, tour, spa, little extra Disney thing would you like to do right now. Since you're alone you'll have plennnnty to time to ride whatever rides you want (did I mention there aren't any lines??) so what's that little somethin' somethin' extra you'd like to do?

I'd head straight for whitewater snacks to see if the calico is still around. Feed her something.
IMG_0372.jpg
[/IMG]
Lol that's me.
Then, I'd head for indy and the single rider line. Then pirates, Haunted mansion and splash. then Cafe Orleans for some pommes frites--mmm.
pommesfrites.jpg

then space, the new star tours and Ariel ride in CA. then Toy story probably 5 times in a row. No lines right? Then Back over to Disney for small world and Fantasmic and back over to Ca for WOC because of course there would be a show starting right after Fantasmic. Then HOJO. Oh crap-- I have to come home...:confused3

Was happy to be down a pound again yesterday. Had a great night at work--My 'friend' was there all night because someone called in--yay. Didn't think I'd see him at all. Going to see Gabriel Eglesias tonight-- an xmas present from my parents, should be fun. Watched the Peoples choice awards last night--those are always fun. Was catching up on the boards and came across my trip report from the last time while looking for news on the calico from whitewater snacks so I read that-- that was fun. Felt a little snarky in regards to my relatives but I was honestly only trying to help. I should have just let them do what they wanted with no interference and would have been a lot more relaxed...oh well--at least I got them to finally use the fast pass system....

i can't believe another week is coming to a close...i'm not real hopeful for my WI tomorrow morning but who knows. I didn't stay on top of my journal during the day but stuck with meals i'd been eating, and then sitting here reading everyones posts I thought, well i'm just going to plug in what i ate and see how i did. surprisingly i was just on the mark for my calories for the day, so now i feel successful :teeth:

BAMB -- a 'food win'....love that!

MelindaRuns -- I am a Marathon for Mortals believer myself! it's the only half- program i have done b/c it never lets me down! I was always prepared for the event and the training was very doable in my schedule

disneywedding -- i love that quote thanks for sharing it!

QOTD: POOF! you're in Disney! Alone!

oh my gosh people who know me think i'm crazy but you all 'get' it....i  solo days at WDW! for 3 years in a row my DH had a conference at WDW and I went along, no teen DDs, just me. he did his work thing and i did mine. i loved it! the 2nd year i ended up spending a day at urgent care with chemical conjunctivits and i was crushed that I lost one of my precious solo days. i didn't stop me from my Backstage Tour at MK the next day and it was awesome, someone mentioned wanting to go and i hope you have a chance too! the last year I went to MNSSHP solo and had a great time. I just hope around hitting my favorites and usually eating at the counter at Prime Time Cafe.

That's where I got mine. And also some quinoa. I haven't tried it yet, but its supposed to be one of the most complete proteins. What that means I'm not quite sure.... :rotfl2:

they were completely out of Quinoa. I couldn't believe it! I had to buy bagged red quinoa. We've never had it before so hopefully we like it.

Hi, Loser Mickeys!
I coach starting tomorrow:scared1:

gah! you know those mornings when you think you FOR SURE should be lighter than the day before but then you step on the scale and you're UP?? yeah, that's me. i even did a DOUBLE workout yesterday! hrrrmph. i ran 2 miles in the afternoon and then went to step aerobics in the evening. i'll just have to really watch my salt intake and drinks lots of water and hope that i'm just retaining water.

Yes, I sadly have been having scale days like that most days, a little disappointing since I've exercised and consumed a lot of salad every darn day! Not giving up yet...

QOTD: POOF! :wizard: you're in Disney!

No lines? Can I bring my dh? There would be good coffee at BWV:rotfl:, then we'd head to our fave park, Epcot, and do the big rides together then eat somewhere that doesn't serve chicken nuggets, lol. I am thinking Bistro de Paris or the Japanese or Chinese restaurant, never been to any of them. We'd do Behind the Seeds and maybe a backstage type tour. Oh, on Segways, that would be cool. Watch the France movie (we  France), get a pastry (they have no calories in my dream), and do a fireworks cruise. Maybe run to Stormalong Bay and lay out/do the water slide:thumbsup2 Then hit something on the BW for the evening. And a fireworks cruise, yeah. Ahh, I am loving this dream... Wait, I'd love to do a race at Disney, too. Gotta add that to the beginning of my dream, lol.

Healthy Habits Results Week 1: Fantasyland

Congratulations to MelindaRuns and RutgersAlum from Team Mickey for earning all 22/22 points!

OMG, I forgot about that, woo hoo!!! Now I'm feeling guilty about not flossing Tuesday night...

Here's my Sparkpeople quote for the day I wanted to share. I've been getting in the habit of posting one of these a day on my FB to keep me motivated.

SparkpeopleQuote1.jpg

Amen, sister, thank you.

Then, I'd head for indy and the single rider line. Then pirates, Haunted mansion and splash. then Cafe Orleans for some pommes frites--mmm.
pommesfrites.jpg

YES, single rider is key!!! And wow, those frites looked fabuleuses!

Ok, I confess I'm a little nervous about coaching, tough act to follow in dumbo_buddy, but I'll give it a go! Maybe I'll even post tomorrow's QOTD tonight:woohoo:

:wave2: Quick check in. Not sure when I will get here tomorrow.

Just made a breakfast date with a good friend for early tomorrow at IHOP. If the scale is good to me in the morning then I will splurge and get some Harvest Grain and Nut pancakes. If not then it is egg beaters and turkey sausage  Then I have a long list of errands to run so not sure when I will be home and if I will get any computer time.

Wanted to answer the QOTD because I would so LOVE to have some alone time at the world but haven't been able to. I did go with some DIS gals a few years ago and had the opportunity to sneak away for few minutes 2 different nights and was really enjoying the peace and me time but (un) fortunately for me my friends care way too much and both times I started getting frantic texts and calls from them wanting to know where I was and if I was okay so I headed back to the hotel. Since I have to use a scooter they worry that I will run out of battery or something else bad will happen. Love that they care so much but I do love the ability to just enjoy at my own pace. As for what I most want to do on my own, they will all tell you that it is. . . SHOOOOOOOOOOOPING! When I am with the family it is hard to really spend time in the shops and I love to look at all the great stuff. When I went with the gals they had to pull me out of every gift shop we passed! I don't even like to shop in "real" life, but I love Disney Shopping  And I would spend as long as I wanted to visit all the on site resorts and just enjoy the atmosphere, food and shOOOOOOOOOping at each one!

Everyone have a great healthy Friday and make sure you make great choices for the weekend to lead you into next week.:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

What is BodyFlow or pump? We have Muscle pump at our Y (wonder if similar). I started doing that back in October or so and really have noticed it's helped my metabolism get moving.

I tracked everything again yesterday (and friended a few here) on my fitness pal. I was over (by about 50, but was enjoying a treat). Doing well so far today and hoping to continue.

I too had the scale going up instead of down and I'm really tracking and working out, so it's frustrating. Hoping tomorrow for weigh in it's down (we shall see though).

Pump is a high rep low weight lifting class while flow is yoga/Pilates. I like both of them pretty well, but they aren't running.
:)

Do you know how much protein we should be getting each day? I looked it up once, but seems like it was somewhere near 100g for someone working out or running a lot. I need to track my protein

The formula is (weight in pounds) times .37 gives you your minimum protein requirements in grams. Example: 100 pound person needs over 37 g of protein a day.:teacher:

No real maximum, except generally capping out your calories.

Healthy Habits Week 3: Kilimanjaro Safaris®

Believe it or not, I am old enough to remember WDW not having Animal Kingdom. I don’t remember much about my first trip, but somehow, I never forget a safari. I think it’s the surprise element. I may know the story of saving an elephant, but you never know which animals you will see. Will the elephant be laying down or eating upright? What will the lion be doing? Will I even see her? This week, our Healthy Habits help us prepare for surprises.

This week’s 4 Habits are:

1. No matter what, it seems that water is essential. It comes in handy to be hydrated when something involving alcohol takes you off guard. Your “habit” is to drink a total of 64 oz. of water during the day. You can count up to 8 oz. of tea or coffee toward your total for the day.

2. A lion just showed up at your house! Well, he or she isn’t a lion, but you do have to feed the person and you suddenly have a 4th meal on your plate. A quick check of your journal will help you know how many calories, points, etc. you can safely eat for the day. Recording what one eats and portion control are huge in weight loss and valuable habits to have. This week, write down everything you eat as well as the portion size AND one nutritional aspect. (Example: I had ½ cup of plain uncooked oatmeal, cooked in ½ cup of nonfat milk, with 1 tablespoon of walnuts and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and that totals 350 calories.)

3. People have found that protein keeps you feeling full. To keep the munchies at bay during an unexpected event, this week, your “habit” is to have 2 servings of protein each day. Use your plan to determine what counts as a serving.

4. After some twists in your schedule, you deserve a break. Spend some time relaxing each day.

Mini-Challenges

1. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight:” For at least 2 nights, get 8 hours of sleep.

2. Run! Run! Poachers to Catch! This mini-challenge is exercising. Exercise for at least 30 minutes total on at least 3 days this week..

Please feel free to PM me with any questions or ask on the thread!

Howdy, I'm Michele, coach this upcoming week 1/13-1/19. Trying to post more this go-round in the BL challenge, but it's tough to get here with job/kids/activities etc. Real life interferes with my personal life!:rotfl: Anyway, lots of posts or not, please know that you all have already helped me stay motivated [a week longer than usual] this new year.

QOTD Friday 1/13: In the US, Friday the 13 is considered "unlucky." My mom, however, always told us growing up that it was a *lucky* day for our family--not sure if that was true or if she was using mom psychology on us to help us keep positive at the mere suggestion of bad luck... But does Friday the 13 carry any superstition, good or bad, for you?
Hoping we all get to report that Friday, 1/13/2012 is a :wizard:good luck day on the scale for all of us!

Go Rutgers!

I should be in bed asleep right now considering I have to be up early in the morning but yet here I sit on my laptop in bed. I still need to check the weather to see how its going to be in Dallas. Heck, I haven't even packed a bag yet, WHOOPS. Guess I'll be doing that first thing in the morning. I'll jump on here before we leave. Alan has to take the Juke into the Nissan dealership to get the oil changed. He can't remember what time the apt is so I'm hoping its early. I don't want to be getting on the road in the middle of the afternoon.

Well, I guess I'll jump off here and go pack that bag. Everyone have a great night and rested weekend!

http://www.marthastewart.com/334099/barley-salad-with-chicken-and-corn

Ingredients

Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 cup barley
2 bunches scallions, cut into thirds crosswise and white ends halved
2 1/2 cups fresh corn kernels (from 3 ears corn) or frozen corn
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 pint grape tomatoes, halved
1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves
Reserved cooked chicken breast from Buttermilk Chicken with Cornbread and Cucumber-Celery Salad, shredded
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
5 ounces baby spinach
Directions

In a medium pot of boiling salted water, cook barley according to package instructions. Drain and let cool.
Meanwhile, preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place scallions and corn on a rimmed baking sheet. Toss with 1 tablespoon oil and season with salt and pepper. Roast until vegetables are tender, about 25 minutes, stirring halfway through.
In a large bowl, combine barley, roasted vegetables, tomatoes, parsley, chicken, 1 tablespoon oil, and 1 tablespoon lime juice; season with salt and pepper. In a medium bowl, toss spinach with 1 tablespoon oil and 2 teaspoons lime juice; season with salt and pepper. Serve spinach with chicken-barley mixture.

book says: 4 servings 409 calories per serving, 13g fat, 16.1 g protein, 62.4 g carbs, 13.2 g fiber.

My version:
  • Barley - White and black barley - 1/2 cup each, soaked in 3 cup water for 5 hours. brought to boil. simmered for 15 minutes (you can also just cook it in 3 cups water for 45 minutes)
  • no scallions
  • no grape tomato
  • added dried cranberries
  • field green mix from a bag instead of spinach
  • added balsamic vinaigrette for a dressing.

variations:
flank steak
salmon
roasted asparagus

I bet you could get the calories down too. They seem high to me but I don't know what recipe they used for the left over chicken.

That sounds delicious! I will have to try that. I love all these new grains I am discovering since Jan 1! I hope my family likes it, too!:cool1:

Hi Michele - thanks for the coaching! :)

I think I have a pet peeve about Friday the 13th. I hate that the first thing on the news in the morning is the cheesy anchors getting all "ooooh, bad luck!" about the day. And then whatever might go wrong that day has to be down to the fact that it's Friday the 13th. It drives me nuts, and while I am a somewhat superstitious person by nature, I'm just not that way about Friday the 13th. Of course, I have to say that tonight - tomorrow I drive us all 5 hours to grandma's house! ;)

OOOOH, Hall of Presidents! I would love to enjoy that one once without having to look over and see if the kids are on their phones! lolol :lmao: We sometimes take our kids out of school to go to the World (we feel WDW is often times more educational than real school) so a little Hall of Presidents is good for them. Its always nice and cool in there! And to my husband and I, it never gets old.

Ok, still not feeling all that great...but I think I'm getting there. I can actually breathe thru my nose...LOL! My week has pretty blah diet wise. Though I've pretty much been eating soup and toast. oh my gosh people who know me think i'm crazy but you all 'get' it....i  solo days at WDW! for 3 years in a row my DH had a conference at WDW and I went along, no teen DDs, just me. he did his work thing and i did mine. i loved it! the 2nd year i ended up spending a day at urgent care with chemical conjunctivits and i was crushed that I lost one of my precious solo days. i didn't stop me from my Backstage Tour at MK the next day and it was awesome, someone mentioned wanting to go and i hope you have a chance too! the last year I went to MNSSHP solo and had a great time. I just hope around hitting my favorites and usually eating at the counter at Prime Time Cafe.

I definitely have to get that book!

they were completely out of Quinoa. I couldn't believe it! I had to buy bagged red quinoa. We've never had it before so hopefully we like it.

Thank you! I was way off! According to the formula I need 69.56 grams of protein per day. I am going to start keeping track. I wish there was a way in WW to go in and see how much protein I have tracked. Maybe there is... I will have to check. Thank you for the formula!

Hoping we all get to report that Friday, 1/13/2012 is a :wizard:good luck day on the scale for all of us!

Go Rutgers!

Welcome to coaching Michele!! :cool1: I don't really consider Friday the 13th bad luck. It's a little creepy I guess if things start happening that might have otherwise still happened, but I start reading things into it. I guess we just don't make too big a deal out of it, but I wouldn't be so bold as to just openly diss it either.. lol. Like walking under a ladder--wouldn't be the end of the world if it happened by accident, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it either! lol Better safe than sorry is my motto!

I should be in bed asleep right now considering I have to be up early in the morning but yet here I sit on my laptop in bed. I still need to check the weather to see how its going to be in Dallas. Well, I guess I'll jump off here and go pack that bag. Everyone have a great night and rested weekend!

Good luck in your travels! Be safe and find healthy eating options! :wizard:

Tomorrow I board the train to Chicago! We will see how it goes eating wise. I will be eating 2 meals on the train on Friday and one meal on Sunday. Almost all my meals are provided by the conference, so I have no idea what the will be like. Oh well.

My WI this week was not great. I only lost .2 despite having a stellar week. I'm sure it was the steroids, but it was disappointmenting none the less. Oh well. Maybe next week will be better.

Hey guys. I'm almost embarrassed to pop in because I have NOT done well this week at all. I have not gained any weight, but I have not lost any either. It has been a long, rough week and I'm glad its over for me. Kids are out of school tomorrow.

Hope to do better over the next few days and start working out again.
