I'm really glad you enjoyed that article. My dad taught 4th grade for 30 years...he's "old school" and no one got away with anything, boy or girl, so it's interesting that he's starting to open up to the possibility that kids might differ.

Ya know, when he was teaching, he probably didn't have to teach to a test so he could do things to reach all kids. I remember the pronoun dance; it taught us something, made us giggle, and got our blood flowing.

I have a very wise friend on these boards who once told me somethin' that I try to remember. Ahem...especially after my recent exile.

You post to the lurker. To the one who reads but doesn't post. There are some real hateful idiots out there. Real hateful. We can't just let their statements stand alone.

Do I get carried away at times? Sure. But, it's only my passion speaking.

Funny thing is, toward the end he was supposed to teach to test, but he refused. He figured if he had been doing his job all year, then the kids would know what they needed to know to do well. I guess that's the advantage of having tenure and being close to retirement. They weren't going to fire him...the kids always scored well...and he got his way.

When I told him we were going to home school I thought he was going to freak. He "respectfully disagreed" for the first few years, but now he's all on board.

Back from WDW and the DCL cruise to St Croix. It was 75 to 80 degrees everyday on the cruise and today in Baltimore it is 22 degrees going down to 0 tonight!

O.k. ladies when I left for class last night I had spent a few minutes on the education thread and had to leave. Now you all have me sucked back in. Just when I think we live in an open minded and tolerant society. Someone from the DIS opens their mouth and spuws (miss spelled because I am not educated - single mom thing I guess) forth a string of words that is completely arrogant and unintelligent I can not even respond. What my son brought up on my bed last night was more appealing than some of those post. Thank you to those who can stay cool and counter with an intelligent well informed response.

I did tell my dd that since I am a single parent in a low income situation she would have to drop her AP and honor classes. I also told her sorry that she is not smart and it is my fault for not staying with my abusive ex giving her a two parent home. Ugg now I am all worked up again.
