are scones the same as danishes??
Nope, these are scones...

Picture020.jpg

Traditionally an English cream tea consists of sweet scones, normally with currants/sultanas in, with jam (jelly) and clotted cream. I find scones a bit heavy though but strangely like cheese ones :confused3

hmm...guess I never had scones OR been to the Canary islands!

they kinda look like a biscuit tho..but I guess you don't put gravy on them, huh??!

No we don't put gravy on them :rotfl2: and you mean that yucky looking white gravy too don't ya :rotfl2: The Canary Islands are incredibly popular with Brits as it's year round sunshine, well except for the last few days. An old school friend lives there and the day my Mum arrived they had the most torrential rain ever and flights were redirected to Gran Canaria (another island) It has stopped now though thank goodness! David and I went when we were about 18 to the trendy part and hated it, it was full of lager louts singing Rule Britannia outside our hotel at 3am, yes I was old when I was young or maybe I just liked my sleep :rotfl: It is weird though as the islands are volcanic so the sand is black!!!

Don't know biscuits and gravy till you've tried it and have successfully raised your cholesterol! (that's all my elderly folks want to eat each day!)

I want to hear you sing the Rule Britiannina...Britiannia....crap...can't spell that......what's the tune? And sing the drunken AND sober version!

This is the nearest you'll get.............

Rule Britannia.... Britannia rules the waves....Britain never never never shall be slaves.

All the time waving flags and singing as loud as you can :rotfl: It's a great last night of the proms song :thumbsup2

I'm making a veggie tray, little smokies, meatballs, Rotel, antipasto skewers and then I have some nuts, chips, whatever else we decide. :rotfl:Definitely a grazing type of day. ;)

See, now I've found out that I'm going to be alone - and the kids will likely be in bed by halftime. I don't know that I'm doing ANYTHING special. :confused3

Shoot - now I'm out of time! BBL...

Hi, and bye! How's your head?

I hope all is well over here. I wish I had more time to keep up...but I'm on the cusp of crazy :crazy2: Just know that I think of you all often.

Miss you.

Have fun and hope you remembered the right bra :rotfl2:

I did, and I did! :rotfl:

He's quite near you CE I think, Loon/Lune (not sure how to spell it) mountain in Lincoln near Boston :confused3 He only got back from 3 weeks in Austria 4 days ago!!!

Yep, it's a little further up from our lake. D & I spent our first anniversary in an inn in Lincoln. :thumbsup2

Worked today...waiting on snow again tonight. Tired of snow.

I'm so sorry - and good luck with the t-shirt. ;)

Jo, you've quite the cooks at home. :thumbsup2 All I made when I was younger was chocolate chip cookies so I've no idea how I came to know how to cook. I guess just watching my mom & g'mom. I want to jet set too.

Sounds about right to me, too.

I just put it on FB but Ellie had run a bath and was letting it cool a little (long story but only the hot tap works!!!) when we heard loads of noise, well we run upstairs and this scrawny wet thing runs out of the bathroom. Boo had fallen in the full bath :rotfl2: She likes going in the bath and our shower tray to lick the drips but has never seen the bath actually full so it took her by surprise

:rotfl2:

**********************************************************
Well...

Fun tennis was fun, if cough-y. I showered there, remembered my bra ;), and then met Deb at Panera for lunch. We lunched and chatted, then went to her haircut and worked out some food/schedules. Then I went back to her mom's house with her and we worked on old boxes of stuff.

Her mom saved every single letter she apparently ever got, and even had a ton of her own mother's letters (her mother is alive, but pretty senile, in a group home in Washington...) So, Deb's been going through these boxes which have pictures from 1950-2000, practically, all mixed together, with all these letters and so forth, too. It's fascinating, but what do you DO with all that? :sad2: We saved some for her sister to read, or that were particularly special, but recycled, for instance, the letters her mom got at age 16 from a sailor stationed in Naples, Italy. :rotfl: She apparently had 3 boyfriends at 16... ;)

Anyway, we got so caught up that I didn't leave until her DD came home on the bus - and they are in the next town over, with school starting and ending a full hour later. Oops. It didn't matter since my kids went to ski club (and I had driven D's car so that I didn't have to worry about getting the big car home for him to haul gear) but it definitely was longer than I planned on hanging around.

That's about it... I think I'm going to have a little downtime now, since I have an empty house. :thumbsup2

Were they nice cookies?
I made them so often, I don't even need the recipe to make Toll House. :thumbsup2

are scones the same as danishes??
That does it, we're going to tea at the GF next time you're here. :goodvibes The scones and Devonshire cream there are wonderful. :thumbsup2 So when should I make the reservation? :rolleyes1

Apparently Lost is all the rage. Never seen it, but now that it's over, oh well. How much longer until baseball season? :upsidedow

Scones = Tea Biscuits (we call them that here anyway;)) I like them with Raisins in hem:thumbsup2

Angela - Pitchers and catchers report next week:woohoo:

CE - Glad you had a productive day

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

:scared1: Went to the grocery store on my way home. I thought there was going to be a fight over a cart. People are freaking crazy!

Came home. Had left over Chicken parm and ravioli for dinner. Jimmy is watching the Pokemon Movie and Jim is cleaning the kitchen up!:thumbsup2

Not much else happening. Hope you are all having a good evening:goodvibes

Hi Everybody!

I'm getting to be first too often! :rotfl:

Good morning!

Ugh. This morning just felt rushed and hectic. Between not sleeping well - D seems to have a milder version of my "dread disease" and so between the two fo us, there was a lot of coughing, turning, and tossing - and then being ski club day (which involves extra snacks) and Buzz needing a cold lunch... Plus, I remembered as they were getting their snow stuff on that I needed to provide the PATT volunteer coordinator with 10 $1 gift certs to the next book fair as prizes for tomorrow night's Bingo Night. I don't want to go to school today, so I needed to get them into a kid's folder.

I talked to Deb yesterday - we usually Super Bowl together, but her DH is on the trip Sunday to Argentina with D, and her DH wanted her to tag along. (Since she's a pilot, she can fly for free...) Anyway, we also need to plan out some of our Maine skiing trip and she wanted to tell me some interesting stories that she's been encountering as she cleans out her mom's house. So, after my tennis today, we're having lunch, then I'm tagging along as she gets her hair cut by the third mom of our Maine trip, so that the three of us can plan food and ski days vs. off days, and that kind of thing. :thumbsup2

I need to therefore get moving. I'll shower after tennis and then go meet her, which requires me to remember to take clothes to wear post-shower (I am very bad at remembering a non-sports bra for after ) and it's about time to go!

Hope you all have a great morning. I'll be gone until mid-afternoon, but then D & the kids have ski club, so I am free, baby!
Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun. I'm proud of you for remembering the bra. Going through the old letters sounds like fun. Deb is lucky to have a good friend like you.

So Storm Watch 2010 has begun. They are calling for anywhere from 6 to 18 inches. I could start tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night. Yeah, they are pretty sure about all this.

All the talk about Chili made me want to make some so I am stopping at the store on my way home tonight (to get the milk, bread and eggs;)) and getting the makings to cook crock pot chili. If we get hit with this storm, it will be perfect for the weekend.

The OT called yesterday to cancel Jimmy's appointment for today becasue she had a death in the family. Which is fine, since Jimmy didn't have an appointment today. I have to call and make sure he is on the schedule for Monday becasue that is what I had as his next appointment.

Tomorrow starts the Spring/Easter Candy sale at school This is a new company we are using. It is called Pine River, and everything is $5.00. THe Home and School makes a 50% profit. We shall see how it goes.

Off to get some work done.
Same here on the storm. I'm sure the stores were nuts also. Oh I loved to sell candy when I was in school. OK, I used to just hand the box of candy bars to my DDad and he would sell them all at work. So easy!:lmao:

Waiting for the pool guy again. I've already been to the grocery to make a chicken artichoke casserole for dinner. I think chili is for tomorrow. I also have plenty of Super Bowl food for the two of us because I couldn't decide what to make so I'll make it all. Making up for all the cooking I didn't do whilst Mitch was gone. Mitch has his Army weekend, but I think he'll be able to do much of it at home as he has lots of paperwork to do now that he's in charge of the pharmacy.
I guess I'm going to have to come to your place for SB some time in the future. I hope you and Mitch have a nice weekend.

OMG, $1mil over a LIFETIME?! That's nuts. :sad2:

::yes::

Sending you guys many good thoughts for a positive outcome and no snow issues! :wizard: :hug:

Thanks! I appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers from everyone. Sorry I took up all your reply time!:goodvibes

:tiptoe: I was skimming to check in on you all and saw Kristel's post about Doug. Sending many, many good thoughts your way, Kristel.:hug::hug:

I hope all is well over here. I wish I had more time to keep up...but I'm on the cusp of crazy :crazy2: Just know that I think of you all often.
Hey! Good to hear from you! Thanks very much for thinking of all of us. I hope things calm down for you soon!

Well my jet-setting family are at it again. Em is at a conference in Florida (Naples) Mum and her partner are in Tenerife for the week and Dad flys to the States today for 5 weeks. He's quite near you CE I think, Loon/Lune (not sure how to spell it) mountain in Lincoln near Boston. He only got back from 3 weeks in Austria 4 days ago!!!

As for me well I've had a fun day at the supermarket and dentist, wooohooo. Oh and for tea/dinner we had scone based pizzas that Ells made at school, they were actually quite nice.
MMM 'biscuit' pizzas sound yummo! ;) I need to apologize to you. I forgot to post a birthday wish for you on Enchanted. I know I posted good wishes here but dang I feel bad about it. Please forgive me!!!????? After all, you are the bestess!

And I loved the pics of Boo! ANd your fireplace! Boots has got bigger too--will take some of him soon--he's become the king of the house---flounces around with his tail up and goes in and out of your legs---particularly when I'm on the balance board!

Worked today...waiting on snow again tonight. Tired of snow.
The kids finally had a whole day of school today!
I have been going to the gym again this week! Started a new class called Centergy that I like--it's like fast yoga/pilates. If I go 3 times a week for the next 6 weeks, I get a Tshirt!
I'm sick of winter too. Um, hopefully you'll get more than just a shirt from the centergy! Maybe some nice abs and gluts!!

I just put it on FB but Ellie had run a bath and was letting it cool a little (long story but only the hot tap works!!!) when we heard loads of noise, well we run upstairs and this scrawny wet thing runs out of the bathroom. Boo had fallen in the full bath. She likes going in the bath and our shower tray to lick the drips but has never seen the bath actually full so it took her by surprise.
That's hysterical! Too bad you didn't get it on film.

Today went well in Indy. Also no seizures.

The doctor said that the scan has not changed much since the last one. There is a lot of swelling/inflammation around the tumor bed. That is what is doing the damage to his motor functions.

The hospital has a new cancer wing. That is where we went for the Avastin 'infusion'. It is a very pleasant set-up. Free sodas/coffee/water and snacks. TVs for everyone. They have individual rooms with beds for the people who have to stay a while for the chemo. We were in a group area. You still have your own TV and recliner. They give you pillows and 'warm' blankets if you like. They have made it very nice for those who need it the most. It was sad to see all the people that were going through the chemo. A big dose of reality, I guess.

Doug shouldn't suffer any of chemo. side effects with the Avastin. The doctor said the results could happen very quickly. Let's hope so. He also warned that the results may be temporary. This drug has done wonders for most. There is always a chance of it not working.

It was a long day. We go back on the 18th for another infusion. No other appointments on that day. Every 2 weeks he will have an infusion. Every other time he will need an MRI and Dr. appt. also. No definite duration of treatment until we see what it will do.

I think we will hibernate this weekend. No sense in getting out if the snow comes. I actually think I will declare tomorrow a 'pajama' day. I am going to be on the computer doing money stuff and taxes. No need to spruce up for that! I need a day to just bum around.

Thanks again for all the support. :goodvibes

I'll check in tomorrow!

Hugs!!!!!

Glad to hear it. WIll keep the good thoughts heading out:hug:

Enjoy PJ day. You need it.

Good morning all. It's Wing Bowl Day (Click here if you are interested http://www.610wip.com/Wingbowl-18-Headquarters/5791083 ). THe local Sports Radio Station started it to get people hyped for the Super Bowl, since the Eagles never win. And Storm Watch 2010 is in high gear.

THe boys are supposed to have Cub Scouts tonight, but that will be a game time decision based on the weather. Jimmy is excited about the snow. He wants to go sledding.

Tomorrow was supposed to be a playdate for Jimmy and his friend Michael, but again that will be a game time decision.

Not much else happening. Told my boss at the sign of the first flake I am outta here.

Hope everyone is having a good day!:goodvibes

I'm guessing it's a lot like pre-hurricane prep down here. :scared:

Sorry I took up all your reply time!:goodvibes
Oh gosh - that's not what I meant at all! I'm sorry! I'd started replying and then had to do stuff and by the time I came back I was out of time before a meeting.
Today went well in Indy. Also no seizures.
Good news! :cheer2: :hug::hug::hug:

Told my boss at the sign of the first flake I am outta here.
Think I could use that, too?! :rotfl:

Morning! TGIF :woohoo: Not that I have anything exciting going on; I'm just ready for a weekend. If the weather's decent, I may take Leo to the state fair. I dunno... it's cheap to get in, but rides cost a small fortune and I suspect that's all he'll want to do. We'll see.

Nothing else to report. Happy Friday all! :grouphug:

Good Morning All! :wave2:

I've literally got 10 minutes before the craziness starts, so I thought I'd drop in to say "WHAT'S SHAKIN'??" :teeth:

Kristel - I'm glad to hear Doug had a better day. Still sending you lots and lots of :hug::hug:.

Ugh, looks like a lot of you are getting snow and guess what? We're getting freakin' RAIN again! Someone needs to tell the weather man that we don't need no stinkin' rain! :headache:

Anyway, enjoy your Friday! I'll try to BBL......

Peace out!:hippie:

Yikes!!!

I need to apologize to you. I forgot to post a birthday wish for you on Enchanted. I know I posted good wishes here but dang I feel bad about it. Please forgive me!!!????? After all, you are the bestess!
Don't be silly, actually I haven't even been over there for months and months, just don't have the time!!! Glad Doug's stuff went fine

Well we've had a fun day, at 7.30am I get a text from my friend and neighbour (the one who has just lost her FIL and lost her Dad a little while back) saying that her 7 y/o DS had run away at 6.30am with a rucksack  So we quickly got dressed and went looking. We walked for over an hour when we came across a policeman at just after 9am who told us he'd just been found. During our walk we saw about 6 police cars and 2 or 3 on bikes, it was quite reassuring but made the situation feel more real IYKWIM. So thankfully he was found apparently he said he lost track of time  ummm you don't go out at that age at that time of day just for a walk :headache: We've just seen him come home from school so they obviously sent him later, what I do find strange though is that I haven't had a text or call or anything thanking us for helping to look for him :confused3

Anyway thankfully he was found in time so I could go to golf :rotfl2:

Hello Fockers!!

Thanks!

No. I should take a look at it. I just don't have a lot of free computer time with everything that is going on.

Oh gosh - that's not what I meant at all! I'm sorry! I'd started replying and then had to do stuff and by the time I came back I was out of time before a meeting.

Yep, he is actually getting outside today in all the mess. I guess he is tired of sitting around. That's good.

That would be scary. I'm surprised that the parents didn't say thanks. Maybe they will later. How was golf?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Like I said, Doug has been outside. Not me. I'm in my PJs as prescribed by me. The taxes are completed and e-filed. I was pleasantly surprised. Remember last year I had to pay because of my DDad's passing. It's much nicer to receive!

Looks like his nephew is going to buy our mega-tv. I convinced Doug that we should get rid of it rather than haul it downstairs to the Man Cave. It's a huge projection, 65". :scared1: It takes up half of my living room. I told him we could get a nice 50" flat screen with all the computer hook-ups for $800 when the cave is ready. ;)

Of course that does mean that I will need to get the living room revamped. There needs to be 2 of me - with 8 hands each.

Here's a shot of the snow. It is still coming down. I think we have about 3" so far. It's very wet and heavy.

We are going to watch 'Dexter' tonight. popcorn::I've been getting the series from Netflix. Very interesting show, if you like the macabre and weird.

I just realized, I haven't eaten yet today. I'm hungry.

Later gators!

Love Dexter! :thumbsup2 Weird and macabre is so me. :rotfl: With your weather I think pj's are definitely the way to go. Our weather alarm keeps going off because of all the tornado warnings. Hopefully they won't materialize though.

Mom said you guys were under warnings all day. What is this alarm you speak of, something you have or the city?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Evening all. The snow started about 7:00pm. Now they are saying there is a possibility of 2 1/2 feet.:scared1: It's gonna be a loooooong weekend:sad2: They cancelled Cub Scouts, before the snow even started:confused3 I have a feeling jimmy's play date will also be cancelled for tomorrow, as well as all my errands I wanted to get done.

The boys are playing chess so I thought I 'd check in here.

HAve a good night all. As long as I am snowed in I am sure I will be checking in:grouphug:

Hi, T!

Sounds fun, hope you didn't find anything embarassing :rotfl2:

Well, actually... This is an iffy story to tell, but since we're pretty anonymous - y'all don't know her last name, her mom's name, where they live(d) etc... But when she was looking before, she found a book her mom had written (her mom was a mostly wannabe writer who did a ton of freelance editing for actual salary) and a bunch of letters relating to her horrible gambling addiction from about '93 to '98. :sad2: It is SO odd and sad to read about what lengths she went to to hide what she was doing, how much she lost, her fear, anxiety, etc. I read the book last night - it's actually an unfinished manuscript, with full passages, then things like "(show here the scene in the CPA's office with the W-2's.)

Deb & her sister had NO idea. Thankfully, her mother was able to get help - but at its worst it did involve her mother stealing from her grandmother's savings, etc., and Deb is having a REALLY hard time reconciling her mother whom she loved and adored with the fairly scary, skanky stuff she was doing. Sadly, part of this was during the time that Deb was getting married (D was invited to the wedding, but as we weren't dating, I wasn't there. I do remember, since we were friends, watching his dog whilst he attended the wedding though :rolleyes1) Anyway, parts of the book/therapy letters mention how much she really kind of detested the wedding as it kept her from the riverboats, and that HAS to be hard to read, no matter if you understand that it's a sickness.

I'm sure it's in some ways no worse than things other addicts do to hide their problems, but I've not had to deal with that, so it's just bizarre to me.

So yes, we found some embarrassing stuff. :guilty: Luckily, not related to the boyfriends at 16. :rotfl:

There's other stuff - Deb's mom found out only at age 50-some that her mother had lied about her birthday for her whole life to snare a WWII soldier to marry her. She got pregnant, married a guy who was shipping out, moved, had the mom in April, then wrote to him in November to say he was a dad. Yeah. And kept it going all this time. She only found out when she had to get her birth certificate for a passport. :scared1:

Deb's dad is a crazy therapist , so the first marriage was weird, too. Deb doesn't much talk to her dad - their first conversation since she was in middle school was about 2 years ago - because he more or less wrote her a letter to say that he had a new baby and he just couldn't be a dad to both. :sad1:

Anyway, her life was interesting, and the letters are TRULY fascinating - especially since, whilst I feel bad for Deb, it's not my mom, if you KWIM.

It's been on my mind all day yesterday and today. Wow.

How scary, but good - but weird that they haven't thanked you.

Here's a shot of the snow. It is still coming down. I think we have about 3" so far. It's very wet and heavy.

::yes:: Mom said earlier that it rained longer than they anticipated, then hung right around 33, to make that ridiculously heavy crap. Sorry.

We adore Dexter, too. Hope the weather has worked out better.

Evening all. The snow started about 7:00pm. Now they are saying there is a possibility of 2 1/2 feet.

D is so mad - have you looked at the map? It stops at MA... But he's going to Argentina, so I say he can stuff it. :rotfl2: I'm glad I'm not dealing with it. I'm sorry that you are, though - we just read that DC is looking at between 2-3 feet. At least we'd be prepared to handle it, you know?

Lots and lots of tennis, followed by a quick lunch and a grocery run. Got home, the kids got home, I showered, then school Bingo Night. It was fun, but no one in my family won. ;)

I wound up "working" from 7-7:30, then helping to count cash. D met us there after a quick trip to the office, so he took the kids home and I know how much the cash count becomes an issue. ;) We made nearly $500 in just bake sale and drink sales!

We're still trying to catch up on our recorded TV before we get behind all next week again :rotfl: so I'm going to sign off. Have a great night, all!
