I really like your kitchen so far too. And I have to ditto that about the fridge. That's exactly what we want to get next time around. I love side-by-sides but fitting a big birthday cake is impossible. So, you still get the benefit of having a side-by-side with the one you got but having the freezer on the bottom gives so much more room on top! Way to go! :thumbsup2

Why, thanks! We had a side-by-side before, and the freezer space was kind of hard to deal with.

yeah..I know the feeling! My wedding cake is taking up a whole shelf! only 3 more months and we can pretend to eat it and then toss it.

Why do people save the top layer if it just goes bad anyway?

Gotta love google!
Most couples freeze the cake with the intention of sharing it on their first wedding anniversary. The tradition has its roots in the late 19th century when grand cakes were baked for christenings. It was assumed that the christening would occur soon after the wedding ceremony, so the two ceremonies were often linked, as were the cakes. With wedding cakes becoming more and more fancy and elaborate, the christening cake quickly took a back seat to the wedding cake. When three-tiered cakes became popular, the top tier was often left over. A subsequent christening provided a perfect opportunity to finish the cake. Couples could then logically rationalize the need for three tiers --- the bottom tier for the reception, the middle tier for distributing and the top for the christening. As the time between the weddings and the christenings widened, the two events became disassociated, and the reason for saving the top tier changed. Regardless of the underlying reason, when the couple finally does eat the top tier, it serves as a very pleasant reminder of what was their very special day.

Some people take the time to seal it and get out all the air, and it will taste pretty good. We didn't (weren't really concerned with it at the time) and we will just have to pretend to eat it and take a picture for my scrapbook. I'm really just ready to have that shelf back for other uses. :)

Mine got lost, along with my bouquet... Where it ended up, no one will ever know. :)

DH and I ate it after the reception. Real classy like - Champagne from the bottle and cake with our fingers! :rotfl2:

On our 1st anniversary, I had the bakery recreate it for us. :cloud9:

CE your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL!!! I love it! Oh, I'm so jealous of your fridge! That's the exact one I want!

Kinda sounds like us. On our 1 year anniversary (from the day we met) we went to Toronto and bought a real fancy cake. We took it back to our hotel room where, of course, there was no silverware except some coffee spoons. So we just dug in with our spoons in the box. So romantic!

I like the idea about the bakery recreating the cake. It's been 11 years now and the man who made our cake is pushing up daisies....:flower3:

Thanks! I posted that poll a while back about replacing all the appliances in stainless or just the stove/dishwasher in bisque. Well, that fridge was one of the reasons I sucked it up and spend a boatload on all-new appliances - I WANTED that thing. :rolleyes1 So far, it works great and seems huge!

Yesterday the appliances came! D. & I primed the walls Monday night in preparation, and then he worked hard all day yesterday to paint whilst I attended a playgroup with the boys.

The appliances arrived and were in place fairly quickly. We didn't have Sears install them, so they just plugged in the fridge and range, and D. worked last night and today to get the microwave and dishwasher in.

We still don't have counters or plumbing, window frame or the right lights, but here's where we are now!

And D., with the "long wall" color, but also looking scruffy yet handsome:

Cliff the installer seems to think that the counters will be in early next week. He'll come back then to hook up the sink drain pipe and fix those broken tiles and the window. :thumbsup2

I'm excited!!!!

Love the Pics!!!!

& DisneyMom & I have Been married so long...I don't remember our Cake!!!!

:thumbsup2
