OK, several years ago Mom, my aunt and one of my cousins went to Europe, our first stop was Paris. That first night we went down one side of the street and back up hitting every side walk café and having drinks at each one.:drinking1 At the last one we decided to have dinner and Mom liked the carafe that the wine came in and offered to buy it. (for the record I thought it was ugly, but she was sloshed and thought it was pretty:confused3 ) They said no. Well, Mom didn’t like that answer soooo after we proceeded to empty it, my cousin put it in her bag. :rolleyes1 The waiter comes back and notices the carafe is missing. We play all dumb, like oh the bus boy must have taken it. The waiter gets the owner of the place who proceeded to yell at us in a mix of English and French, finally chasing us through the place yelling at what I am sure were French profanities and calling us crazy Americans. My Aunt who was beyond drunk starts pleading with them not to throw us in the Bastille.:lmao:

Definitely one of my family’s prouder moments.

Question...

Missing school - how many days are too many?

My DS's school has no official policy, so I'm just wondering what the norm is. He's starting Kindergarten this fall and I'll be pulling him:
1 day in Aug.
5 days in Dec.
2 days in Jan.

for vacation/long weekends. Of course, we can add a few days on to that for illness, too. So, I'm looking at 10-11 days missed for the year. I'd really, really like to add one more day in Aug.... am I pushing it?! :rotfl: How do official rules where you live compare?

Thanks guys!

I agree with PrincessV - she's always right.
Hey, could you please share that wisdom with my mother?! ;)

The longest I pulled my kids out of school once they started Kindergarten was 3 days and that is all I am willing again to pull them out of school. I try to plan a weeklong vacation around a school holiday so we have less time taken out.

I wouldn't use those sick days because they definitely keep track of those, with every excuse you give for them being sick. Too many sick days is a "red flag".

Just so you know, we have full-day kindergarten here and they are constantly learning. It isn't like the ½ days of long ago.

Just my opinion...you asked!

Well, my 2 cents after being in schools in 3 states....

Each state had a 10 day policy--BUT only 5 of them could the parents sign them out, any days after 5 had to be doctor approved. I took AE out for 5 days in August one year and got a letter every month thereafter "reminding" me that my time was up.

Check out your school's web site (or call) for the specifics, but it's probably pretty close to the same.

Thanks DM! :)

Hmmm... DS's school is really, really different, hence my uncertainty. It's a Montessori school, in which kids aren't seperated by grade but by age. He'll be in the same class he was this year, which includes ages 3-6, but will be pulled out for 3 hours of Kindergarten each day while the younger kids nap. The public schools here only do K 3-4 hours per day, too. Definitely different from NY! (Of course, so are our graduation and literacy rates, but that 's another story  )

Anyway, since his school has no policy at all, I thought I'd see what others have for maximum number of missed days before I talk to the school.

Yeah, I finally figured out how to do the links properly thanks to DisneyDad's pre trippie and I made a typo, oops.

Sorry for any confusion, you may proceed with your Dis-sing, or is it Diz-ing,....

:rotfl2: But that's a great memory!!

The really great memory was later that night after we ran back to the hotel, my cousin and I decide our Moms needed to go to bed. We put each of our Moms to bed and meet back up in the hallway to go to the hotel bar. We are halfway to the elevator when all of a sudden I hear "you who girls" and there is my Mom in her nightgown doing the can can in the hallway.

NO problem, I just thought that I was missing out on a TR of yours when I couldnt find the link.
Typos are ok just as long as Im not missing out :thumbsup2

Thanks - I was kind of thinking 10 as a benchmark, but had nothing to base that on. His school has no policy at all. I'll jsut need to confer with his teachers, but thought it would be good to go in with something remotely reasonable!
